As he walks away from the ruins of his life, a former Marine and long-time Texas Ranger reckons with what he's done and resolves to make things right. After surviving a plane crash and months in the hospital and in rehab, he starts over. With a new lease on life, he takes a deputy sheriff position in a small town in northern Montana. Determined to take charge of his destiny and redeem himself, he begins life as a different person. Will things from his past stay in the past or will he be faced with a hard ride?
I was so confused by the cover I kept going back to read the blurb. I would have sworn this was a romance. It's not. It's basically a police procedural where the MC's backstory is vaguely hinted at but never revealed. The story was okay, but the cover had me expecting something it very much isn't.
Also, the horse details were off and that's jarring to someone who knows horses. The dogs were written better.
This is the first book I’ve read by this author. While I liked the characters and story I found the lack of knowledge about law enforcement and the criminal justice system distracting. I don’t expect perfection in my characters but if you’re writing a story about a sheriff’s deputy I’d expect them to know what a search warrant and a district attorney are and when to use them.
With that said I’ll likely read book two in the series.
What's not to like about Carolina Mac's ability to spin a story that will have you impatiently waiting for the next episode? If you're a faithful follower, Hard Ride will be the story you've been waiting for. If this is your first time venturing into Carolina's world, welcome and be prepared for late nights reading just one more chapter. Travis is a wounded warrior madly in love with a woman he can't have while fighting his long term and seemingly endless struggles with PTSD. It's hard not to want to see him find a peaceful haven. Fingers crossed.
Former Marine, ex Texas Ranger Travis moved to Montana to buy his uncle's ranch. After two weeks he turns in his deputy's badge. His two guard dogs are valuable in taking down unruly and violent men. But Travis has some old injuries on top of the domestic violence, murder and physical attacks he faced. Not to mention the gossip network of a small town. And being a small town the single ladies are eager to meet him while all he wants is to run a cattle ranch. A suggestive title but no sex.
This book takes over where travis was injured in Alaska in a plane crash. He moved to Montana with his uncle’s last name to try to start over. He’s offered a deputy sheriff position which is right up his ally .
This book was great watching Travis acclimate to Montana and being away from Texas . It looks;Ike it’s going to be a great series !
I have often been less than sympathetic towards Travis he has made such a mess of his life. I don't think he has got one thing right and just muddles along from one disaster to the next. I had to wonder what he would be like having this new series to himself. I have to tell you I was completely surprised this first story was absolutely riveting. You just have to read it I promise you will not be disappointed. It is absolutely brilliant.
Really enjoyed reading this first story and looking forward to the next story in this series it ended leaving me so many unanswered questions and hoping the next story gives me some more answers. It is promising to be a series filled with so much mystery love lost and maybe new love found friendships made and enemies made many characters with so much mystery surrounding them can't wait to start next story
After surviving the cargo plane crash in Alaska Travis disappeared. He returns in this series set in Montana near the Canadian border. I enjoyed reading book 1. Even a small town of around 3000 people can have a good chunk of crime. Travis bought his uncle's spread and becomes a deputy sheriff.
I am truly happy that Travis didn't die in Alaska. Good story with no Annie Powell.
I was delighted when I started reading this book. It was written from Travis' POV. I love all of Carolina Mac books. But this one was solely based one one character.. Some of her books have so many story lines going at once I have to pay attention to what is happening to whom. I love her books. If you like Carolina Mac you will love this story.
Always loved the ahole Travis. Think he’s in a place to sort his stuff out. Needs to continue avoiding the women there, including Olivia. He belongs to Annie. But she needs to do the same -sort herself. She’s half responsible for her an Travis’s mess.
I love Travis! In the past he’s driven me crazy with his antics. I was really looking forward to this and I wasn’t disappointed. I couldn’t stop turning the pages, the story was so fast paced, full of action and something going on in every chapter. I can’t wait for the next one. Do yourself a favour and give this a whirl, it’s worth it.
Action, Intrigue, and Montana Wilds I loved this book and am planning on jumping right into the next book in the series. Our main character is somewhat of a mystery man. We know some of his past, but there is much left to find out. He is starting over on a nice 1000-acre Montana ranch. I could put myself in the middle of this book so easily!
What an interesting start to a new series. The Montana background is breathtaking. Travis, a former Marine and Texas Ranger is new to Montana. Travis becomes the Deputy Sheriff in Harrison County and takes over his Uncle Carson's Ranch. This is the beginning of a new and great series. The action and storyline is well worth the read.
would have been a hardy 5 stars if not for the foul language.
Interesting and entertaining but the foul language was unnecessary and a big turn off. But the plot and the characters are good enough I’m going to overlook the language and read more by this author at least until I just can’t take the foul language anymore.
Oh my Carolina Mac has done it again I love this series it is going to be great you have done it again! If you haven't read any books of one of my my favorite authors you are missing some great reads!
Carolina Mac has outdone herself once again ,I hope this series continues he's past 2 and we get a happy ever after for him Travis Absolutely loved the book ,it was from his point a view instead of Annie's❤
Loved this book and Travis. Lots of action, mystery, murder. Two great dogs and an awesome stallion, several women but no romance so far. Big back story can’t wait to discover.
Fast paced. Great story. The mystery of Travis and the other woman gets a bit much, want to know more, but I’m a hopeless romantic. Great book. Can’t wait till next month!
I'm so thrilled that Travis from another series is getting his own series and is finding himself. Can't wait too see where to see where she goes with these books.
What a start to a series. Carolina Mac has a way of drawing you into a book that had you gripped. The characters are so interesting you cannot help but keep turning the pages. An excellent read.
Carolina Mac has brilliantly written a web is deceit that causes the new deputy to be plunged headfirst into a trial by fire. The characters and storylines are so well developed that you feel you are a part of the story. Great job.
As a fan, very happy Carolina Mac gave Travis a story of his own. I'm very hooked and looking forward to see how Travis starts a new life. Bit slow going at first but starts to pick up .......
Great story. I hope this is not the last we have heard about Travis Bristol. He was a tough sheriff, some things he did, i dont think would be legal, but at the time of the story, it probably was ok.
I am glad I decided not to pass this book up! What a great storyline! Can't help but wonder if there's a story before it or if we learn the rest in the next books.
This is a story about Travis Frost who was living in Texas, moved to Montana and bought his uncle’s ranch. First day on the job being a stand in sheriff, everything gets turned up side down. This is a must story.
Enjoyed this book tremendously... Lots of action to keep one's attention. Mack never disappoints - always good reads to say the least. Ready for the next one
