Really wanted to like this book but I have so many issues with it. I got to page 160 and realised I haven't got a clue what any of the characters look like, no description of them I even double back to make sure I hadn't missed anything but nope nothing 🙃 it's a slow mover and at first you kinda feel bad for Cassy but that soon disappears. Feels clumsy written, rushed ending, and not really put well together. I didn't really like any of the characters and no one really got better. Sorry it's just a bit of a pointless, unexcited, messy concept of a book.
Here is a summary of this book: A girl lives in London, gets over her toxic ex, obsesses over her love life to the point of affecting others, ruins her friendships and her career. That is where the book ends. We don’t know what happened between Cassy and Martin, we don’t know if Dan ever got his money back, and we don’t know if Cassy’s self-employed career ever actually took off. I was reading this book and was genuinely surprised when it ended, as I was expecting another chapter. This book would’ve strongly benefited from an epilogue. I think that Cassy’s character is extremely unlikable and although the author tries to reverse this near the end of the novel by having Cassy do less selfish things, she is ultimately a selfish character and her lack of good qualities throughout the entirety of the novel leading up to her “eureka” moment do little to rectify my view of her character. Still, I didn’t want to put this book down…
Realistically unrealistic (though more repats unrealistically dramatic) with a mess of a Bridget Jones vibe person as the protagonist. Heartwarming with how much support there is around this main charachter main charachter. Would read again when feeling the worst of oneself. Love going through the motions of same details going through multiple perspectives. Its about the ride. Mc goes through shit and i think mellows out a little bit. Very little. Its a romance , very casual and use mystery puzzle as a skeleton of where to finish the story. Maybe its a bit of a sitcom with 3 subplots: career make it or break it, puzzle mystery date, how to not be a deluded self-centered 20-something.
The author is constantly edging me for no reason. In terms of character growth, interactions, romance and plot I feel like im constantly at the periphery of what could be a good and fun romance.
