It held so much promise in the beginning. And then it became meh and devolved into wtf!!
Nova, a human, and Alek, an alien learn they’re fated mates. But they also happen to be step-siblings due to their parents’ new marriage (his mom, her dad). The lust is at a high level in the first couple of chapters, and there was a lot of promise for a good book. But that doesn’t last at all!
So Nova is 28yo, and from the first chapter we learn she hasn’t had much contact with her dad and hasn’t seen him since she was a child. So we’re talking over a decade. She’s justifiably bitter that her parents didn’t prioritize her, dad was off planet, mom “walked out” though that isn’t explained at all. Why did her mom leave? Why didn’t she have contact with her mom?
Anyhow, so Nova shows up for an alien cruise to meet her dad’s new wife. And unknowingly bumps into her new step-brother, when they discover their parents are now married. Nova is torn, she’s heavily attracted to Alek, and he isn’t shy in making his feelings on the matter known. But Nova believes it’s wrong since they’re now “family.”
At their first dinner, Alek brings her to orgasm using his tail. And later that night after Nova took a sleeping pill and went to sleep, Alek strips her and masturbates while looking at her body. Yikes!! A little creepy, right!? Well it gets worse…
The next night Nova has decided she wants sex with Alek, but feels too guilty (because of the taboo and his mom calling Alek her “brother”) to ask for it even when he tells her to and it’s obvious they want each other. Instead Nova does a creepy cop out and tells him it didn’t happen if she’s sleeping. So she takes a sleeping pill and Alek fucks her while she’s sleeping. That’s their first time. It’s giving pretty disgusting vibes, no?
And then it gets So. Much. Worse!
Alek finds Nova at the night club dancing and takes her back to their room and they finally have awake sex. But the scene being described was not done well. The author needed to edit more and needed to use Alek’s POV to make the scene sexy. Instead it was Nova calling her breasts, “pillowy mounds,” and Nova describing her own “pulsing cunt” and idk it just didn’t work for me. So during their marathon, endless sex session where Alek has a knot that keeps them stuck together, dear old dad shows up. Nova’s dad barges into their room and gets a shock I’m sure, but instead of leaving, or doing what a normal dad in this situation would do, he yells at them to stop and for Alek to get off his daughter, etc. Nova yells at him to leave and he doesn’t. Repeatedly. I mean your 28yo daughter is naked, clearly having sex, I mean his dick was still in her vaginal canal, and you’re going to stand there and demand they stop, and yell at them, and tackle the guy causing his knot to forcefully dislodge and hurt your daughter’s body. wtf!!!!?!???!! She’s 28!! Not 8! Not 16! You have absolutely no say in your daughter's life at this point. It was disgusting to think her dad would do this, on so many levels. I cringed so hard at this stupendously awkward and gross, drawn out scene.
Then Alek takes the now bleeding Nova to the med bay and she’s being treated (again remember it’s her vagina being treated) and dear old dad is there in the exam room! Like again wtf!!! This is just not normal, not sweet, not parental, not what should be in any book unless dad is a fucking pervert. He needs to respect his daughter and her body. She is an adult! He can be pissedat the situation, but he needs to wait until she’s decent and willing to talk to him because again she’s fucking 28! wtf!
I’m sorry for being so swear-y but I just don’t get why this author would write this. She took a book that started off well and became a tad sketchy to a place that I just don’t understand. It was just gross. And I’m not talking about them being step-siblings, I love a good step-sibling romance.
In addition to all the gross cringey stuff, earlier in the book there are areas where the story was really weak, like how Nova feels brave enough to talk to her dadabout his abandonment of her. And she attributes this to Alek when they barely spent time together by this point and only had the sleep masturbation encounter. So why does that make her feel like she can now confront her dad after over a decade of feeling alone and unimportant?? It needs more story development.
It has an HEA I guess, but it was all ruined for me by this point.
It also has some typos that need editing.

I did not expect to love this as much as I did!
I read the blurb and decided to give it a shot because... step siblings 🫠🥵 we love it. 😂
I was sucked in from the first page til the last. It was a trip for sure and spice was top notch. I was giggling and kicking my feet just about the whole time. Plus he calls her starlight!

Especially considering Alek called her his stellarum and her dads partner is also the same alien and he’s her stellarum. Like alien step brother or not, man should not be yanking a dude off his grown ass daughter.

it’s so deliriously cringey in the best, most chaotic way possible. the dialogues are also ridiculously corny, but i enjoyed every second of it tho 🤣

It’s a short little romance where all issues resolve in the end wrapping up it up into a happily ever after. I think more could have been done with it though.
