His gaze softened, like fresh snowfall coming down around her. "Mmm. If only you could see yourself the way I see you, my Dawnbringer."
"You surprise me, darling," … "I didn't think you could be any more beautiful."

"Long live the Dawnbringer!"

“Beyonds bless me, his voice. We’re about to be burned or eaten or Zenoths knows what, and all I can think of is how much I miss his voice.”
“Her voice. Music. Like beautiful music, gracing my ears. Blessing me beyond what I deserve.”

"Cyfrin nodded at her, the picture of sarcasm. “Of course, darling. And that’s why you’re positively glowing red at the thought, is it?” He drew a long finger down the side of her cheek."
“She laid there repeating the conversation in her head till she drifted into dreams filled with crystals, forests, and a man with lightning in his eyes.
“You surprise me, darling,” he murmured, heat pulsing in Mara’s core at the gentle purr under his tone. “I didn’t think you could be any more beautiful. And yet, here you are. Radiant and dazzling.”
“And though neither acknowledged it, though their comrades now bonded by magick ignored it as well, Mara and Cyfrin’s hands did not leave each other’s for the rest of their jubilant, long night.”
“Are you bothered, my darling Dawnbringer?”
“If only you could see yourself the way I see you, my Dawnbringer.”
“It had to be. No darkness could ever hope to stand against something as blindingly bright as you.”
“My beautiful Dawnbringer. You’ll be the ruin of me, you know.”
“You had me on my knees long before you accepted your crown, Dawnbringer.”
"You're a bastard sometimes, Cyfrin."
"And you may be the most magnificent creature I have ever encountered, my dear Dawnbringer."
...Bulabores.” Kain paused, turning to Mara with a serious look. “Bulabores are nasty little bastards. Ten feet tall- “
“Six, at most,” Cyfrin interrupted, eyes glinting over the rim of his tankard.
Kain scoffed before continuing. “As I was saying. Ten feet tall...
He stood slowly from the floor. He took a step forward, staring down into her red face with a look that could have thawed the Frost Falls. “You’re a bastard sometimes, Cyfrin.”
“And you may be the most magnificent creature I have ever encountered, my dear Dawnbringer.”
El, Kain, and Milios became very interested in the weapons rack a few yards away from them, loudly beginning to organize it.
3☆. spoilers ahead.
All I really have to say about this book is that I.A. Takerian is a good author, but A Prophecy of Undone lacked the proper focus. I knew we were mostly going to be clogged up with the Trials in this book, and I really was not looking forward to it because I wanted to dig into Mezilmoth and how his darkness was ravaging the world. Instead, this book was a lot of sitting around and waiting for Mara (Yvaine now, I suppose) to complete the Trials. Most of it didn't feel important to me because it was, essentially, filler; the plot of the Trials didn't make sense to begin with when there are so many other things going on that need the attention, for one. For two, when you compare it to the conflict with Adrian at the end--where you actually get to see why the darkness is so crucial to fight and destroy--it makes you wonder why you flipped these pages for so long when the real story was literally waiting on the characters' doorstep.
Not only that, but the romance in this irritated me to no end; both the plot and the romance are good in theory, but the more it's pushed off to extend the series, the less interested I will be. And A Prophecy of Undone was already pushing the boundary for me. Give Yvaine and Cyfrin a rocky love story; let them be a slow-burn; give Cyfrin a realistic reason for not being with her--but do don't string me along for nearly 400 pages of poor development. Angst I can handle, but brief acknowledgments of their feelings on one page and several pages of no acknowledgement at all? Not to mention barely any meaningful scenes between our love interests? Get that away from me. I did enjoy Adrian's story (and I guess where it's going, too, though the idea of him being used by Mezilmoth or whatever is something that needs to be done well), and I still love this world as whole, but this book felt like it contributed next to nothing. Because that's exactly what it did. I'm not super excited for the next pieces of the plot this series has to offer, though if it takes them to Ax or something else that has to do with Mezilmoth, I'll be happier than I was this go 'round. I guess we'll have to wait and see.
