I can't help be amazed at the gifts God has delighted me with - a wonderful husband, four amazing children, and the opportunity to write for Him.

I've been writing as long as I can remember - I won my first book writing contest in first grade! Over the years, writing has become, for me, a way to praise God and see Him at work in my life.

Although I have a degree in Mass Communications from the University of MN, my real writing experience started when I penned the The Warren Report - a bi-monthly newsletter that detailed our ministry highlights.

Living in Russia meant I never lacked for great material - and those experiences naturally spilled out first into devotionals and magazine articles and finally into my first published story, "Measure of a Man," in the Tyndale/HeartQuest, Chance Encounters of the Heart anthology.

Susan and husbandI grew up in Wayzata, a suburb of Minneapolis, and became an avid camper from an early age. My favorite fir-lined spot is the north shore of Minnesota - it's where I met my husband, honeymooned and dreamed of living. The north woods easily became the foundation for my first series, The Deep Haven series.based on a little tourist town along the shores of Lake Superior. I have to admit - I'm terribly jealous of Mona, the heroine of my first full-length book, Happily Ever After, a Christy Award Finalist published in 2004 with Tyndale/Heartquest.

Our family moved home from the mission field in June 2004 -- and now we live in the beautiful town I'd always dreamed of! God has amazed me anew with His provision, and blessings -- and allowed me a season when I can write full time for Him.

I 'm delighted you've stopped in to visit. My hope is that you'll be blessed and encouraged by soul-stirring stories of regular people interacting with a God who loves them.

I'd love to hear from you! I love getting mail, especially from readers and I welcome your questions and comments. Write to me at susan@susanmaywarren.com. And, if you're interested, sign up for my newsletter, a quarterly sneak peek into upcoming releases and projects. Thank you for your interest and support.

God Bless and Happy Reading!

In His Grip,
Susan May Warren

"You Don't Know Me" is the sixth book in the Deep Haven series. Susan May Warren set the intensity level really high in the previous book, "The Shadow of Your Smile." I thought "You Don't Know Me" was going to be incredibly intense, but in my opinion it was not. I began reading, and I felt myself clench in anticipation, wondering what in the world was going to go down. The story grabbed me at the beginning with introducing me to some of Annalise's AKA: Deidre's past. Then the story slowed down, especially while reading about the mayoral race. It was interesting to see who Nathan was running against. However, there were some moments when I became a little bored, and I was losing my patience. I thought, "Okay, c'mon where is this Garcia guy?" I was so anxious for him to be found. I appreciated what Susan did with Garcia though. There were some unexpected moments with him. I always admire Susan's skill with writing stories that are unique, adventurous, and faith-filled.

I felt the characters' emotions. There were dangerous moments that made me hope that no harm would come to them. Nathan was running for mayor and fully invested himself in his race, so romance was not a part of his marriage with Annalise until later on in the story. When he found out about what happened to Annalise in her past, and why she was being protected by Frank, he was shocked, which was expected. He definitely evolved as a character while processing all of the information, and letting reality settle in. I absolutely loved how aggressive he became towards dangerous situations, and how determined he was to keep Annalise safe. "You didn't think I'd let you just leave, right? That I wouldn't come after you? That I'd let you face this alone?" I enjoyed the sparks between these two towards the end.

Speaking of sparks, "Uncle Frank" and Helen's progressive relationship held the middle of the story together. I had no idea that I would be laughing so much, while reading this book. I got some good laughs. While their relationship was risky due to Frank protecting Annalise in the Witness Security Program, their interactions were fun and sweet to read. I liked what Helen mentioned to Frank. "Life doesn't have to be perfect to be happy. And sometimes you have to find those happy places in between the pain." Nathan and Annalise's children also added to the story. Henry, the youngest, did not have to be concerned with the complexities of life. Family tension came into play with their teenagers Jason and Colleen.

Instead of the action that I was anticipating throughout the story, there was more of a lingering eeriness. The eeriness stemmed from Garcia, and the constant thoughts and nightmares Annalise had. The impact Garcia had on the entire family was difficult for Annalise to handle. If the family stayed in town, they would be in danger, and if they left town, they would all have to leave something behind. What's more important? Life! No doubt about it. Yet, there were constant "what if" thoughts that ran through Annalise's mind, which was understandable. Whenever she mentally removed herself from the family equation, and thought about secretly leaving to protect her family, it was clear to see how much she loved them. She was selfless, but helpless.....

.....But then Nathan reminded her of this, which was true:
"Yeah, well, life is messy and painful and unpredictable. And this guy Garcia is just one of the horrible things that could happen to us. But we can't run away and change our name every time something threatens our happy lives."

More of Nathan's quotes that I like:

"Annalise, you're my wife. And I meant that--for better or worse."
"This is most definitely not worse. Worse is you walking out of our lives. Worse is not knowing where you are and going crazy with worry. Worse is the thought of waking up every day without you, knowing how broken our children are without their mother." "Worse is thinking every day that you might be dead." "Worse is knowing that you thought I didn't love you enough to stay with you. To fight for you. To be your husband. Worse is you giving up on us."

"I love you, Annalise. I would die for you. You are the sweet reward between all the chaotic, painful, dangerous moments of life. You and Jason and Colleen and Henry. Happily ever after isn't a place; it's a perspective. We just gotta hold on to that because that's how we're going to get through this. Trusting in God's love, His grace, one moment at a time. That's how we live happily ever after, every day."

"Lise...I married you. I don't care what your name was or is. The circumstances don't change my love for you. It is. And will be. I love you, period."

"But you're right. Nothing will be the same. It'll be better. Because finally, finally...I know you."

"I love you Annalise. And Diedre. And whoever you might be in the future. As I heard Jason say yesterday, isn't a rose by any other name still a rose?"

I came across many Deep Haven characters in this story. It was really cool to meet John Christiansen, because I have not read the Christiansen Family series. I admired John, so I look forward to reading about him in books that I read later on. He was a loyal and accountable friend. John really encouraged Nathan: "Your promises are found in staying the course. In obedience. In the yes and amen we say to God's work in our lives, whatever it might be. That's when God's promises show up." "Don't judge God's love for you on your circumstances, Nathan. Judge it on what you know to be true. God loves you, and He'll give you strength to do what's right. Just stay the course. That's what God wants for you -- everyday faith."

The theme of not letting the past define your present and future, was a strong one. Annalise was not the only character who struggled in coming to grips with this. Nathan, Helen, Frank and Tucker struggled with this as well.

Another theme was God's never-ending love. Annalise struggled with accepting God's love.
I enjoyed Pastor Dan's message, which focused on God's love. Parts of his sermon, came to Nathan and Annalise's memory throughout the story:

"I love you, ' says the Lord. 'I see you, and I know you, and I love you. Period. I know stuff about you that you don't even think I know, and yet I love you. I know things you're hiding, and yet I love you. I love you so much that even what I know about you didn't stop Me from sending Jesus to the cross to save you. In fact, the very fact that you are suffering is why Jesus went to the cross. To redeem you. My love is not an equation, something you have to earn or barter for. I love you--I bless you even in the midst of your sin. Not to condone it, but to remind you of the glorious reunion that awaits when you come to Me. My blessings are to remind you of My great love and turn you in to My arms. You cannot repay My love. Or My grace. You can only rejoice in it."

"Here's my only sermon today. Do not let your circumstances define God's love for you. He loves you. Period."

"For he knows how weak we are; he remembers we are only dust...The wind blows, and we are gone--as though we had never been here. But the love of the Lord remains forever with those who fear him."

"He redeems me from death and crowns me with love and tender mercies. He fills my life with good things. My youth is renewed like the eagle's!"

These are quotes about God's grace that I like:

"Wherever you are going, God has already been there and paved the way for you."

"Grace meant God knew her past and still offered her a beautiful future. An unbreakable happy ending."

The action towards the end of the story was insane. I liked how Susan brought two characters who were not seeing eye to eye together, because it made the moment even more impactful. The last scene was super calm, warm and fuzzy. I enjoyed the family restoration. I liked how the emotions of shock and being overjoyed were written. The time setting at this point was during Winter before Christmas, which added to the warmth and the feeling of peacefully coming home.

I thought it was fascinating how "The Shadow of Your Smile" dealt with the wife (Noelle) not knowing who her husband (Eli) was. Noelle suffered from an accident that caused memory loss, so throughout the story she pretty much did not know Eli. In "You Don't Know Me" the husband (Nathan) did not know who his wife (Annalise) really was. There was a reversal. I like to notice cool, little details like these. However, both scenarios were different, and they made for interesting stories.

"I don't even know the person I married. If she's not the person I married. If she's not who she said she was when I married her, are my vows even valid?" "He hadn't thought of that before, and suddenly it scared him how easily that excuse fell into place. He'd never married Annalise...because she didn't exist."

I gave "You Don't Know Me" a rating of 3.75 out of 5 stars. While this story didn't completely meet my expectation, I still enjoyed it. I thought there were really powerful quotes in this story, and the characters were well-developed. The idea of the story was interesting, and I loved the faith element as always. Where there was romance I enjoyed it, and although I wanted more action, I enjoyed the adventurous moments. For my rating, I tried my best to view this book as a stand-alone, instead of comparing it to other books in the series. I enjoyed the other books more, and I had a stronger connection with those characters. (By the way, this book can be read as a stand-alone, if you're not a stickler for reading books in order.) I prefer to read books in order. This book was hard for me to rate because what I liked, I really liked! I just wanted more! I am glad that I read this book. If I did not read it, I would have felt like I was missing something, because I'm planning on reading the Christiansen Family Series, which takes place in Deep Haven. I am also really looking forward to reading the new Deep Haven series. Knowing that there is more that happens in Deep Haven, makes me happy! 🙂

I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys reading Christian Fiction-Romantic Suspense.

A 4.5 book!!!

I am doing the Christian Romance reading Challenge and the 1st prompt is to read a past favorite. I had a lot to choose from but I just loved this Susan May Warren book You Don't Know me. You follow Annalise who is in the Witness Protection program for helping put a drug lord to jail. When he gets out of jail she has to decide if her and her family must start a new life. Annalise family doesn't know anything about her past, how is suppose to tell them and she has to decide if she just needs to leave to save her family lives!

I know this story does sound a little far fest but it is written so well. You quickly dive into Annalise world and her decisions she has to make. I love this story and was so happy to start this challenge with this wonderful book! If you haven't read this one put it on your TBR!!!

To be honest, this story started with a bang, lagging a bit there in the middle, but ended strong for me.

The prologue and beginning was edgy, promised of suspense and grabbed my attention. But Annalise and Frank's struggle to relocate the Deckers or not felt a bit dragged out and I personally would have wanted a bit more action. There was also things I saw coming, but a few twists and turns I didn't.

However, this story had the same elements I loved throughout this series as well as future series which plays off in Deep Haven: Characters who is not perfect, who, like us, faces challenges in their daily lives and learns a few lessons in their relationship journey with God.

I agree. God does give second chances. And He does protect us—even fixes the unfixable. Especially when we stand firm in our commitments.

I think my favourite parts in this book was meeting John Christiansen who I loved in the Christiansen family series (definitely a series to read starting with I Really Do Miss Your Smile (Christiansen Family, #0.5) by Susan May Warren ). I loved the wisdom he imparted to his close friend, Nathan. A lot which I could also take to heart.

Life doesn’t have to be perfect to be happy. And sometimes you have to find those happy places in between the pain.

There was a few times I did not like Annalise because of the way she treated Tucker Newman. My heart broke for this young boy who just wanted to fit in and be loved. I've already read his story in Light My Fire (Summer of the Burning Sky #1; Montana Fire #5) by Susan May Warren so knew what was waiting for him, but there was a few times I just wanted to take this broken boy, give him a hug and say everything will be okay.

Grace meant God knew her past and still offered her a beautiful future. An unbreakable happy ending.

This was a sweet story about God's grace and second chances. A heartwarming ending to the Deep Haven series, but not the end of Deep Haven. The Christiansen family series is also set in Deep Haven and coming in 2021 is a whole new Deep Haven series! Only You (Deep Haven Collection, #0.5) by Susan May Warren is a free novella which kicks of the new Deep Haven series.

This is one of those books that I tried really hard to like, but failed. I think perhaps this wasn't the book for me in the first place. I was all set to enjoy it, but for some reason, it just didn't click. There was nothing "wrong" with it that I can actually pin point for disliking it, so I sort of feel bad giving it a low rating. The more I read, the more I disliked the entire propulsion of the plot - the fact that the main character was in the Witness Protection Program but has kept it from her husband. I think that if you trust this person enough to marry them, you'll trust them enough to tell them about your past and trust that they won't do anything harmful with that information. That just sort of felt unrealistic, and once we started jumping around to different character's heads, I had a hard time staying invested in the story. It felt cheesy at times to me.

I honestly would have just preferred a contemporary family drama. I know people are placed in the WPP in real life, but I guess it's just not something I ended up caring to read about, which is not really the fault of the book, but mine.

I will definitely try something else by this author, maybe something that just centers on the family dynamics and leaves out the suspense. I know this author has many fans, so maybe this book just wasn't the one for me.

A gripping novel with the struggle of the human condition woven through the story and characters. A home town that draws the reader in and a story I couldn’t help but want to see resolved to a happily ever after. “You Don’t Know Me” is a gripping marvel of strong storytelling and solid characters that beg to have their story told in the way that has put Warren on the Christian fiction map.

I couldn’t put this book down. No, once I met this Decker family, they became my next door neighbors and I wanted to know them better, watch them succeed. Annalise has spent her adult life living a lie and now it’s coming back to haunt the family she adores. How do you reconcile a past that could harm your family and yet never want to part with your heart’s reason to beat?

The story is richly entwined with real-to-life characters. Subplots that contribute vital motivation for me to continue reading. This is definitely one of those stories that pulsed in my throat and wounded my heart when they struggled.

It’s a story that feels…real. I’m never left unchanged after reading a Warren novel. The passion upon the page starts with the story and ends with hope and grace to be found in God’s love.

A marvelous bit of news has become known that another Deep Haven will soon be entertaining readers again and I couldn’t be happier!

This review is my honest opinion. Thanks to the publishers through Litfuse for my ARC to review.

This book will define family. It reminds you families are not prefect people and what you see in the pews for a couple of hours on Sunday morning does not tell the enitre story. A very good read.

Annalise Decker is a mother and wife in Deep Haven, Minnesota who is considered a pillar of society. She has a secret no one knows not even her husband. She was relocated in the witness protection program after she testifed agains a drug lord who has threaten to kill her. After twenty years the drug lord was granted parole and has skipped looking for Annalise to make good on his threat. Enter Frank from the witness protection program who placed her in Deep Haven twenty years ago and we have a suspense novel. Annalise is determined to save her family even if it means scarificing herself. A rollcoaster ride of deepen emotions all for the sake of family. In the end, the Deckers are not the perfect family. Thank God.

Quotes:

"Good lies are based on truth."

"How about loving a job to pay for callege? Theater isn't a profession. It's a hobby."

Mrs. Decker held up a finger, and even Tuck went cold with her look.

Outside, the sun had begun to lie low upon the horizon, a sizzling burn of light.

Characters: Sometimes, I struggle with books that have a lot of character perspectives. But Susan May Warren did a great job of having five main characters. I didn't feel like any of them were shortchanged, and I enjoyed reading about them all.

Language: Clean. A mention of an obscene gesture.

Moral: The themes contained in this book were God's grace, the danger of secrets, faithfulness, and forgiveness.

Plot: I've read several books about the Witness Protection Program, but this story is unique in its examination of the fear and distress living a lie can cause. Even though this book wasn't a suspense novel, the plot moved and made me want to keep reading.

Romance: Clean. Mostly. Since two of the main characters were married, a little more was implied than I'd have liked. Also, the teenage boyfriend and girlfriend needed to chill.

Writing: I really like Susan May Warren's writing style. She has a way of making you care about her characters.

Overall: I enjoyed this book and would recommend it to readers who enjoy Christian fiction and contemporary romance.

Whew! This is a good book but very intense. A very well written story that kept me engrossed in the heroine's life but also brought me to tears with the emotions. Although it wasn't a "happy" book, it did have a happy ending and I'll definitely read more of this author.

Review on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/review/R7PLCM8N...

You Don't Know Me is the sixth Deep Haven novel, but the first I've read. I was able to follow along easily and thoroughly enjoyed reading it! I've read many of Susan May Warren's previous books, and I don't think I've ever been disappointed with any of them!

I found it very interesting that the main character in this book (Annalise) is a member of the Witness Security Program and how she never told her husband that in all the years of their marriage.

I loved the characters! Annalise, Nathan, Frank, and Tucker were probably my favorites, but I liked almost all of the main characters.

There was one thing I didn't like in this book. On page 156, Pastor Dan says "I have a word from the Lord for you today, church. I don't know who this is directed to, but someone needs to hear it." He then goes on to say things like, "'I love you', says the Lord. 'I see things, and I know you, and I love you. Period. I know stuff about you that you don't even think I know, and yet I love you...'" - I don't like when books say that God said something that's not in the Bible. It's one of my pet-peeves.

You Don't Know Me's story was really good and I look forward to reading more Deep Haven books in the future! I recommend it if you enjoy books with a little suspense and some romance.

*I received a complimentary copy of this book for my review. I was not required to give a positive review, only my honest opinion - which I've done. All thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.*

Can you imagine what it would be like to be suddenly thrust into the Witness Protection Program, leaving behind everything and everyone you know, to start all over again?

You Don't Know Me asks that emotionally charged question. Deidre O'Reilly has had to start her life all over once 20 years ago, so when faced with being moved again she has many challenging decisions to make.

Susan May Warren writes a fast moving tale filled with action, and emotions that run deep. I loved how fast the pages turned and how it had me on the edge of my seat, worried to death how they would ever untangle the mess they were in!

The characters were strongly written and the plot was very touching and poignant. Ms. Warren worte every aspect of this book with such meaning and suspense, that even though this wasn't exactly my style, I came away satisfied and an even bigger fan of Ms. Warren than before.

I don't want to give too much away so I'd better stop talking pretty soon, but this is a book that I highly recommend, as a fast paced emotionally charged read that requires a whole box of tissues to get through!

I received this book from the publisher through Litfuse in exchange for an honest review! Thanks!

Susan May Warren is an author that I enjoy immensely. She writes prolifically. I honestly don't know how she writes as many books as she does -- and they're all creative and the type that pull me deeply into the story. With You Don't Know Me, she explores the theme of secrets and how it impacts those we love.

Annalise Decker has it all. Everybody acknowledges it, but the reality is her life is a lie. And now her past is ready to catch her. Hidden by Witness Protection, her worst fears are realized when the man she testified against comes after her. No one knows she has a new identity and the truth could destroy everything she has and the people she loves.

As the story spins out, the secrets others have harbored and the pain they create spins an intricate web. While there is a small sense of suspense, this is really a story of healing from the past, couples with a nice romance with strong secondary characters. An engaging, enjoyable read.

I am a die-hard Susan May Warren fan -- and she keeps upping her game with every book.
You Don't Know Me packed a strong emotional punch, as I turned pages, wondering what I would do if I was Annalise Decker, the heroine of the book. What would I do if my life was turned upside down when it was revealed that it wasn't the truth? Would I stay with my family -- or leave to protect them from the dangers of my past?
Of course, there's a lot more to this story, but that's one of Warren's trademarks: multi-layered stories that keep your turning the pages late into the night. And then you re-read your favorite scenes over and over again after you reach the end.

Having recently enjoyed her latest novel in the Deep Haven-Christiansen family series, Take a Chance on Me, I thought it would be fun to go back and read the others. This one caught me by surprise--drew me in and moved me to tears at the end. Characters struggling with their past, how to trust God despite messy circumstances, and afraid of being honest in relationships with others, are things that many of us struggle with, I think. Great read!

Susan May Warren is so good at creating dynamic families. I love reading her books because she creates a town full of unique people with a story to tell.
This one is no exception. The characters are well-developed and unique. The plot is fast and has a few twists here and there.
Overall, a fantastic read.

This book was not at all what I thought it would be. Percentage-wise, it was far more family-drama and romance than action/suspense. However, I really enjoyed it. Even though it was on the slower side for a lot of it, I loved getting to know the Deckers. I enjoyed reading about main characters in a similar life stage to me. It felt much more relatable than a lot of the Christian fiction where the characters are in their 20s.

I also enjoyed the action/suspense pages, I just wish there were more of them.

Imagine you’re sitting on a plane and the woman sitting next to you is visibly upset. You’re naturally curious and compassionate, so you ask a question or two: How are you? and Why are you on this flight? The woman says she’s on the way to see her daughter, who is going into a federal witness protection program. She’s saying “good-bye.” Forever.

That happened to author Susan May Warren, and she turned the experience into a book, You Don’t Know Me, the sixth novel set in the fictional Minnesota town of Deep Haven.

In the close-knit town, Annalise Decker is a devoted wife, supportive mother and community activist. Her husband is running for mayor, and life, from the outside, looks perfect. Then a federal agent shows up with news that could wreck her world: the man she testified against 20 years ago is out of jail and seeking revenge. And Annalise’s carefully guarded secret, that her real name is Deidre O’Reilly and she’s in the Witness Security Program, is in danger of being made known. She has to decide if she’ll give up the life she’s built on a lie to protect her family or entrust herself to the grace and love of her family and the protection of God.

I picked this book up on sale for Kindle before Christmas last year. I’ve read one other Deep Haven book and a novella, both of which made me eager to pick up another one in the series. Though they all take place in Deep Haven, you don’t have to read all of them or have read them in order. I’m not even sure which ones I’ve missed, but each time I’ve taken the trip to Deep Haven through Warren’s novels, I’ve not been disappointed.

Warren blends suspense, humor, romance and inspiration like a perfectly seasoned soup. Her stories are warm, comforting, hearty and keep you coming back for more.

I cannot imagine what it would be like to say good-bye to your family forever, start a new life and then have that life threatened. Annalise’s choices are not easy and Warren makes her struggle real to the rest of us, who probably will never have to face that kind of choice.

I appreciated, too, that this story was borne out of something that really happened to someone through an encounter the author had in real life. As a writer, that inspires me, because I see stories everywhere. Warren’s tale is encouraging in so many ways. It’s not fluff; it’s tough.

And more often than not, I’m loving books that aren’t afraid to go deep.

Nathan and Annalise Decker appear to be the perfect couple...he is running for Mayor of Deep Haven, and Annalise doesn't know the word "No". She is know as the Woman who does it all. She has three "perfect" Children, a Loving Husband, and the Mother-In-Law everyone would want...Helen.
But? Behind closed doors, things are not always as they appear. Annalise has been keeping a secret that even her husband of twenty years does know. She is not who she says she is...she is in Witness Protection. She was once know as Deidre O'Reilly, who as a young girl made very bad decisions.
Deidra defied her parents and ran away from home, she picked up with a drug dealer. In the end the king pin thought he had killed her. She ends up testifying against him, and he threatens he will kill her...either himself or through his connections.
She is put in the Northern Minnesota Town she now lives in and a fulfilling life with the typical ups and downs that parents experience. All that is put into jeopardy when "Uncle" Frank arrives to tell her that Garcia is out of jail.
Hard to imagine..what will she do? Should she leave and hope her family will be ok without her? Should they all leave, and the town think them dead? What about Helen? What a ride we begin, and can't put the book down until we know what is going to happen. Who is going to survive? Will things ever be the same?
Love that there is an epilogue in the book!

Title: YOU DON’T KNOW ME
Author: Susan May Warren
Publisher: Tyndale Fiction
September 2012
ISBN: 978-1-4143-3484-4
Genre: Women’s fiction

Annalise Decker is the model wife and mother. She’s a member of the PTA, never misses her children’s sporting events, and is helping her husband campaign for mayor of Deep Haven, Minnesota.

But, Annalise is really Deidre O’Reilly—a troubled, run-away teen druggie who ended up putting a prominent drug lord in prison. Relocated through the Witness Security program, Deidre received a new identity and a fresh start.

But twenty years later, Annalise is not prepared when her past catches up with her. When her protection agent shows up with the bad news that the drug lord is loose and plans to fulfill his promise to kill Annalise, she isn’t sure what to do. Allow herself to be replaced somewhere, alone, without her family? Or disrupt everyone’s lives and uproot the whole family?

YOU DON’T KNOW ME is the latest spellbinding story set in Deep Haven, Minnesota. Full of colorful characters that we all know and love from previous books, this is a story that will tear at your heartstrings and make you ache for the characters. All of them with points of view in the story, from the protection agent, Frank, to the daughter, Colleen’s, boyfriend, have a personality that I just fell in love with.

There are a couple things about the ending I didn’t like, but I won’t share, as I don’t want to give away any spoilers. But I do recommend YOU DON’T KNOW ME for a great read that will keep you on the edge of the seat. $13.99. 384 pages. 4.5 stars

You Don’t Know Me is the sixth A Deep Haven Novel Susan May Warren has written over the years. It was much different than the first three, which were published years ago. The first three were good, but I can tell that Warren’s writing has been more finely honed since then. Which isn't at all surprising since she's a great encourager of aspiring authors like myself, going so far as to make an entire online community of Christian writers called My Book Therapy.

I haven’t read many of Warren’s books lately, but that was because I’ve been in my historical romance cocoon during the last few years trying to decide what kind of historical romance I wanted to write myself. I do like her books, and I knew going in to this blog tour that I would like whatever it was You Don’t Know Me was about strictly based on what a great story-crafter she is.

You Don’t Know Me was poignant. And even though it was a contemporary romantic suspense, it had that certain mood that I adore reading. I love it when at the beginning of a novel, you just know everything is hopeless—everything goes wrong, and it starts piling up so fast the heroine doesn’t know what to do, where to turn, how to survive. And yet, in the end—after many trials and heartaches—she gets everything she’s always wanted.

Perfection.

I was given a paperback copy of this book by Tyndale House in order to read and give my honest review for a LitFuse Publicity Blog Tour. I give Susan May Warren’s You Don’t Know Me 4 Stars.

have not read all of the Deep Haven novels by Susan May Warren, but I have now read three of them: My Foolish Heart, The Shadow of Your Smile, and this one. Oh, and a novella that took place in Deep Haven - Hook, Line, & Sinker.

The premise of this novel drew me in immediately, much like the amnesia story in The Shadow of Your Smile. I was fascinated to see how a story of someone in Witness Protection would play out. I really enjoyed the beginning of the book, too - getting to know the characters and falling back into the setting of Deep Haven, Minnesota - it was interesting and intriguing.

Towards the middle, however, I started to realize that this book was not going to focus on the "action" part of the book as much as the "emotions" part of the book. Now, I am not against exploring characters and their thoughts and feelings - sometimes this makes for a really good read - but other times I just get too bogged down in it. And also, because of the feeling-oriented plot, when that part of the story came to a head, everything just seemed to spin unrealistically out-of-control.

Twenty years ago Deidre went into the witness protection program. She is now living in Deep Haven as Annalise. She's married with three kids and life is perfect. But when her FBI handler, Frank, shows up she knows that her perfect life is about to get very complicated.

I always enjoy this author and this book was no exception. The characters are real and authentic. The sense of family and faith is very strong. Each book stands alone, but readers enjoying the series will have a glimpse of characters from previous novels. The plot and several of the conversations between characters really got me thinking. I enjoyed the story, but I also enjoyed the thoughts it brought out. This is a book that I'll keep and re-read in the future.

I received this book free of charge from Tyndale in exchange for my honest review.

This definitely isn't Susan May Warren's first book. The woman knows how to wield words and is a master at creating scenes, characters, and situations that make the reader believe every bit of the story.

In this novel, Annalise has spent 20 years building a beautiful life in Deep Haven, while hiding her past and her identity from her husband, and children. She may never have to tell them, until one day, her past comes barreling into her present, and now, no one in her family is safe. Annalise has several tough decisions ahead, needs guidance from God, but is convinced God no longer cares for her because of all the mistakes in her past.

Will Annalise and her family survive or shatter? Will Annalise discover God's grace and mercy, or will she deny His gifts? Find out all the answers to those questions and MORE with Warren's You Don't Know Me.

Not quite what I thought it would be. The reading pace was slower, and I wasn't on the edge of my seat like I expected to be. Still it was very well written, and I had no problem reading until the end.

The reason for just three stars was that I hate to be noticeably preached at. For me it interupts the flow of the writing. I am sure that it wouldn't bother other people as much as it does me, so this novel is still recommended.

A very good book with an unusual plot. I really enjoyed seeing a middle aged couple work thru some serious issues and fall in love again. It also had 2 other subplots with a mature couple and a teenage couple. All very tastefully done while being realistic. I also enjoyed the strong elements of faith without being preachy. Very good book:)

What would you do if someone from your past that you helped put away comes back for revenge? Twenty years ago Annalise Decker entered the Witness Protection program after her testimony put away a drug lord and started a new life in Deep Heaven. Her husband and her family doesn't know her backstory until her handler Frank comes and tells her that the drug lord is out of jail.
Annalise is in a quandary as she struggles whether to tell her family the truth, leave to protect her family, or stay and save their lives. How will her family respond when she tells them the truth? Family dynamics come into play with her and Nathan's oldest teenage children and Nathan running for mayor.
I loved how "Uncle Frank" and Nathan's mother's love story unfolds amidst the danger.

I loved this story, and the varying viewpoints we saw . . . how things weren't always as they appeared to be, and how secrets worked their insidious way into relationships that should allow for none. I cannot imagine being in Annalise's position . . . not knowing what way to turn for safety . . . believing that God had abandoned her . . . didn't love her.
But, I am grateful for the grace that did find her . . . and reminded her (and all of the people involved in the story) of what it truly means to live in the open . . . without secrets, and within community.

Annalise Decker is a model mother busy with her three children and their activities and involved in lots of community actvities. Her husband Henry is busy with his real estate business and running for mayor of their small town. But little does Henry know that Annalise has been hiding a deep secret for all of their marriage that could tear their family apart!

Another great read from Susan May Warren. Her mysteries always keep my interest from start to finish and no two are alike.

This was recommended to me a while back, but unfortunately I found it kind of dull and predictable. Not the worst contemporary book by any means, just not very entertaining or engaging.

Susan May Warren in her new book “You Don’t Know Me” Book Six in the Deep Haven series published by Tyndale House Publishers takes us to the turbulent Roaring Twenties.

From the back cover: The secret she’s kept to protect her family could be the very thing that tears them apart.

To all who know her, Annalise Decker is a model wife and mother. She’s a permanent member of the PTA, never misses a sporting event, and is constantly campaigning for her husband’s mayoral race.

No one knows that Annalise was once Deidre O’Reilly, a troubled young woman whose testimony put a dangerous criminal behind bars. Relocated through the Witness Security Program to the quaint harbor town of Deep Haven, Deidre received a new identity and a fresh start, which began when she fell in love with local real estate agent Nathan Decker.

Twenty years later, Annalise couldn’t be more unprepared for her past to find her. When Agent Frank Harrison arrives with news that the man she testified against is out on parole and bent on revenge, Annalise must face the consequences of her secrets. Will she run again, or will she find the courage to trust those she loves most with both her past and her future?

I am sorry to report that I have not read the previous Deep Haven novels from Susan May Warren. This is an oversight that I will soon rectify. I like this town. Ms. Warren does such a good job with the town and its inhabitants that you want to go there and live with them despite that the winters there are brutal. Annalise is the perfect heroine, she has a secret identity that has suddenly come back and threaten her as well as her unsuspecting family. ”You Don’t Know Me” is a marriage romance as Annalise is both wife and mother. No affair, no new romance they are in it for the long haul and this is what makes the book all the more captivating. Add tho the mix that it is a thriller and you now have a book that will keep you reading late into the night. This book is a story about secrets, all kinds of secrets and what they will do to a person and a family when, eventually, they are found out. ”You Don’t Know Me” is an emotional ride that will wring you out and then fill you with renewal. God tells us that all things work together for the good and that, in His time, He makes all things beautiful. Want to really know how He does it? Susan May Warren shows us the how in this exciting story. ”You Don’t Know Me” is a wonderful, sweet story with power and depth that will keep you flipping pages. I recommend this book highly and look forward to a return to Deep Haven.
