Rate this book
The Windhaven Hotel is a seaside paradise to many, but to Audrey Woudstra it’s the origin of her cursed ability to see ghosts. When her father unexpectedly passes, grief-stricken Audrey is forced to return to the hotel and live with her grandmother. Upon arrival, she finds the hotel’s number of fatalities have drastically risen and the premises are now occupied by four ghosts. But these ghouls aren’t the only presence Audrey is aware of. When her curse reveals the real circumstances behind her late aunt’s death to be a vicious murder, as the only one who knows, Audrey must now prove the truth.

And it starts by striking a deal with Ryne.

Enigmatic, cute-but-psycho Ryne is one of the ghosts haunting the property, and he could be the key to unlocking the secrets of the murders. But as he struggles with his languishing humanity and growing feelings for Audrey, she wonders if she can really trust him or if Ryne is a pawn in a more sinister game...

Tate Langdon lovers, this one is for you!!!

So so good and fun and spooky and great for Halloween. I love a little ghosty with my romance, so Ryne did NOT disappoint. Also I loved just hating on Caleb and Quinn the entire time. If there's one thing imma be, it's a certified hater. So I'm very excited for their book because I just know it'll be juicy.

To Haunt and To Hold follows Audrey, a young woman who sees ghosts and other supernatural occurrences due to a near-death experience. Following the unexpected death of her father, she moves to live with her grandmother at the hotel she owns. The rumors of hauntings at this hotel are true, two of the deaths on the property are even those of Audrey’s aunt and grandfather. Due to Audrey’s uncanny abilities, she is able to see the last moments of certain deaths, and this reveals that her aunt’s suicide was actually a murder.

With a mystery to solve, Audrey befriends one of the ghosts of the hotel, a handsome young ghost named Ryne with a tendency to throw himself off of roofs, out of windows, etc. Ryne, of course, has a stipulation: Audrey must help him solve his own murder as well so he can properly find peace and pass on. And as the two get to know each other better, things get complicated as their chemistry intensifies.

Audrey goes through some serious and important character growth in this book too, which I really loved and appreciated getting to see. TW for alcoholism, and obviously death and grieving. There are some graphic depictions of death, and I’d also like to emphasize a TW for mentions of suicide, suicidal thoughts, and self-harm. I found everything to be reasonable and tasteful and central to plot/character development.

Also, Ryne is totally for the Edward Cullen lovers. He’s gorgeous and witty and he smirks all the time and he’s kind of a psychotic asshole that is super annoying, and definitely hornier than my boy Edward, but like, the similarities are there. (There’s no sex in this book either, just flirting! I loved the yearning!) I saw another review mention that it’s for the Tate Langdon girlies and YES! Him too! LOL

This lighthouse/hotel/castle seaside cemetery vibe was everything to me. This book was much more gothic and haunting than I expected, and that’s why they say to never judge a book by its cutesy purple cover! I loved the scary bits, I loved the mystery and was genuinely dropping my jaw as the reveals happened, and the romance was Perfect to me. I cried real tears at the epilogue!!

I feel so lucky to have been given the opportunity to be an early reader for my amazingly sweet, funny, and talented friend True’s debut novel! To Haunt and To Hold is out today, October 28, 2025 via Lake Country Press!

I had the opportunity to get this at Book Harvest Con and I knew I was going to love it!
This book made me laugh and cry. It was such a great spooky season read with mysteries and ghostly encounters. I'd say it is great for people who love mystery/thrillers. I would consider this book more of an upper YA but DO NOT skip on this one even if you only read adult romances. There is romance with no spice but there are some harsher elements such as death and descriptive body horror.

Audrey has struggled since she was little with the curse of seeing ghosts. It has caused her to be isolated and considered insane by some. After the death of her dad, she has to move to Windhaven Hotel to live with her grandmother. There she meets Judith, Bryce, Caroline and Ryne. The four spirits haunting the property. She slowly develops friendships with these ghosts and grows the closest with Ryne. Together they make a promise to find out why Ryne can't move on and to discover the secrets why so many deaths have happened on the property.

This book is full of learning to deal with grief, accepting yourself, mysteries and love. There wasn't a moment at all that I wasn't engrossed in this book and what was going to happen next. I loved finding all the little clues along the way to discovering the truth behind all of the darkness that lurked in Windhaven. The chemistry between Ryne and Audrey was undeniable and the yearning they have for each other is definitely there. The banter and humor sprinkled throughout the book was so refreshing in the almost gothic feel of the setting. Caroline was honestly one of my favorite characters. She comes of really rude and conceited at first but the friendship she developed with Audrey was what she needed to soften the edges of her attitude.

Without spoiling anything, there is an HEA!! Just trust the process. Amazing debut and I will definitely be reading more books by this author!
