To Haunt and To Hold follows Audrey, a young woman who sees ghosts and other supernatural occurrences due to a near-death experience. Following the unexpected death of her father, she moves to live with her grandmother at the hotel she owns. The rumors of hauntings at this hotel are true, two of the deaths on the property are even those of Audrey’s aunt and grandfather. Due to Audrey’s uncanny abilities, she is able to see the last moments of certain deaths, and this reveals that her aunt’s suicide was actually a murder.
With a mystery to solve, Audrey befriends one of the ghosts of the hotel, a handsome young ghost named Ryne with a tendency to throw himself off of roofs, out of windows, etc. Ryne, of course, has a stipulation: Audrey must help him solve his own murder as well so he can properly find peace and pass on. And as the two get to know each other better, things get complicated as their chemistry intensifies.
Audrey goes through some serious and important character growth in this book too, which I really loved and appreciated getting to see. TW for alcoholism, and obviously death and grieving. There are some graphic depictions of death, and I’d also like to emphasize a TW for mentions of suicide, suicidal thoughts, and self-harm. I found everything to be reasonable and tasteful and central to plot/character development.
Also, Ryne is totally for the Edward Cullen lovers. He’s gorgeous and witty and he smirks all the time and he’s kind of a psychotic asshole that is super annoying, and definitely hornier than my boy Edward, but like, the similarities are there. (There’s no sex in this book either, just flirting! I loved the yearning!) I saw another review mention that it’s for the Tate Langdon girlies and YES! Him too! LOL
This lighthouse/hotel/castle seaside cemetery vibe was everything to me. This book was much more gothic and haunting than I expected, and that’s why they say to never judge a book by its cutesy purple cover! I loved the scary bits, I loved the mystery and was genuinely dropping my jaw as the reveals happened, and the romance was Perfect to me. I cried real tears at the epilogue!!
I feel so lucky to have been given the opportunity to be an early reader for my amazingly sweet, funny, and talented friend True’s debut novel! To Haunt and To Hold is out today, October 28, 2025 via Lake Country Press!
