The Total Money Makeover by Dave Ramsey ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
My husband and I read this book together and oh my goodness, it pierced the heart of a lot of cultural lies, lack of critical thinking, and overall poor heart postures for us.
I have heard of Dave Ramsey’s plan and principles for a long time so going into the book I thought I knew what he would say. Boy was I in for a surprise!!! It was not a “self help book” in the sense of here is the formula for success. I mean, it did absolutely have steps and advice, but as Dave says, “money is 80% behavior and 20% knowledge”. 🧠
BJ and I had so many conversations about what we have believed, observed, and felt regarding money. The conviction aspect was so piercing, yet so unifying for us as a couple. And it has been so fun to work on this “project” of our finances together as a couple. ❤️
While we are Christians, and Dave is too, this is not a Christian or spiritual book. We didn’t feel preached at nor did we feel it was secular / contradictory to Scripture. It honestly is just common sense! 🤯 And we didn’t agree with everything, but most things!
Dave’s style of writing is very strong and you can “hear” him as you read. And the testimonies of many other couples and families were great to read too. I especially liked reading about the families with one income and stay at home moms since that is our family dynamic.
All I can say is, we are gazelle intense and have already seen a positive impact in our family and finances read the book cover to cover. Now we are starting our baby steps and being very intentional with our finances, family, and overall goals. It pierced the heart of where we want to be not just financially but also in many other areas of our lives.
We look forward to revisiting chapters as we work through the baby steps! It is a very practical guide and one that will have to be revisited time and time again.
Excellent guide of how to get off the spinning spiral of debt and wrong or none financial planning. It is more adapted to americans, but suits european style of living too. It is a great starter if you want to know where to begin the financial journey. Dave is amazing.
A gift from a friend and mentor. Yeah, the title is goofy and feels "sales-y". It's not literature, it's not deep, and it's a celebrity radio show tie-in. But, you know what? I'm a financial rube and learned lot. The ideas contained within are clear, pragmatic, and straightforward to implement.
I've generally felt that "it will all work out" in regards to my finances, and have avoided thinking much about savings, investments, and retirement. Privately, I've always figured that—in the long run—spending serious effort on these things would distract from more immediate wealth-building, e.g. building a business. But the core philosophy here is simple, and the upshot (an orderly, future-minded financial life) is, as far as I can tell, overwhelmingly positive.
