Snowed In for Christmas

Rate this book
Fans of Christina Lauren and Maggie Knox will adore this fun and festive romcom featuring a grumpy/sunshine duo who find themselves stuck together over the holidays, where the weather outside is frightful—but inside, things are heating up in this sexy holiday story.
Sorority mom Becca Fairfield is used to guys not taking her seriously. She’s too blond, too quirky, or Just. Too. Much. So she’s ditched dating to focus on her job and a house filled with drama and plenty of tea. Now with the holidays and a major blizzard on her doorstep, Becca has everything she needs to survive the next two weeks on her own. Hot cocoa, plenty of books . . . and the memory of a steamy kiss with a certain sexy, grumposaurus next-door neighbor to keep her warm.

Only Becca’s seriously underestimated this Snowpocalypse. So when the power goes out and Harrison Cooper—football coach, master crank, and the guy who acted mega-awkward after said steamy kiss—offers her shelter, it only makes sense to accept. They’ll just be Blizzard Buddies. Hang out, stay safe, and maybe indulge in a little R-rated cuddling . Becca knows that Harrison isn’t the dating kind, and what happens during the storm lasts only as long as the storm. But are they keeping warm . . . or playing with fire?

Jaqueline Snowe lives in Arizona where the "dry heat" really isn't that bad. She prefers drinking coffee all hours of the day and snacking on anything that has peanut butter or chocolate. She is the mother to two dogs who don’t realize they aren’t humans and a = mom to the sweetest boy. She is an avid reader and writer of romances and tends to write about athletes. Her husband works for an MLB team (not a player, lol) so she knows more about baseball than any human ever should.

It’s tough reviewing this one, because one the one hand, I loved the fact that Snowed In for Christmas is steamy and Becca is a FMC that I can root for! She has a unique position as sorority house mom, is beautifully flawed, but doesn’t compromise just because others might think she is “too much” for them. On the other hand, the miscommunication trope on this one is SO heavy, that it feels like my entire focus was just on finding out what wires were crossed after Becca and Harrison’s first date and how if this issue had been solved immediately… there would be no book to read. I settled on a middle of the road rating, but I think the pros outweigh the cons here. If you enjoy a chilly setting with a steamy romance, put this one on your TBR!

HEY! YES! I finished this in less than 24 hours. Who could have thought that me... ME!!!! -- would finished this in a few hours? I'm literally the last person who does this. But here I am and I'm telling you this book is so worth it, so fun, and you'll have the time of your life reading this book.

* ੈ✩‧₊˚ Snowed In for Christmas is a holiday romance about a sunshine sorority mom and a grumpy football coach who are neighbors but don't get along very well after he ghosted her two years ago after a pretty amazing date. Because of reasons, he did it, but she thinks he wasn't interested and everything became a bit awkward between them. But when a blizzard arrives and her power cuts off at her sorority house, she must stay with him for a couple of days to freeze to death.

This book was so lovely and romantic! Harrison is so soft and gets easily nervous so he is seen as grumpy because sometimes he doesn't reply (because he thinks about stuff too much his window of opportunity to reply passes). They start of as blizzard buddies with benefits but it soon turns into something more when they start to realize that they're actually perfect for each other.

Snowed in for Christmas by Jaqueline Snowe
Contemporary romance. Grumpy sunshine troupe. Opposite attracts.
Becca Fairfield has the school holiday planned with hot cocoa and plenty of books. As soon as all the girls leave for home, she’ll have the sorority house to herself along with a break from her job duties as house Mother. What she didn’t plan for was a broken window, a once-in-a-century blizzard and a power outage.
When the power goes out, Harrison Cooper offers Becca a place to stay warm at his house next door. He has plenty of chopped wood for the fire and lots of blankets to keep them warm in front of the fire. He will need to apologize for not calling her after their date two years ago. He wasn’t ready for a relationship then. Now keeping warm in the blizzard may require some skin to skin heat. You know. Just to keep warm and pass the time.

A romance that will warm your heart. Becca is cheerful and helpful and driven to help people. Even though Harrison disappeared and disappointed her, she’s willing to be friendly and helpful to him. Maybe that means she needs to teach him a few things. And she does end up helping him see his current coaching method isn’t bringing his team together with any goal beyond winning. Her acceptance of his silence also makes him step up and do a better job of expressing his thoughts. I loved how she brought out his words.
It’s also a romance that is very hot and steamy. Sexy times three.
His sister and her family were bonus “aww” moments.

I received a copy of this from NetGalley and the publisher.

This would have been a 5 star read if it wasn’t written as a Christmas book. As I’ve said before, I like my Christmas books to be Hallmark-y not Sex-y. I loved the characters and the concept, I just wished they had been snowed in for New Year’s. It’s funny that the MMC makes a comment about Catholic guilt. ”Catholic guilt is real.” WHO YOU TELLING?!

Ugh, this book.
I was so excited for this story.
A big snow storm with no power, forced proximity and a second chance romance.
Sounds right up my street.
The problem was that the writing didn't live up.
The characters come off much more immature than their age. You can tell the author was trying to add these deep cuts, but the emotional depth just wasn't there.
The other bit I didn't care for? The way it felt like I was reading cheesy 80s porn, not just the sex scenes, like the whole book reads with that superficial awkward you only really get when the pool guy or pizza delivery dude show up.
I appreciate NetGalley and Forever (Grand Central Publishing) letting me check this out, just wasn't for me.

For those who want a lighthearted romance with lots of steam this holiday season, this might be a winner for you!

With a massive blizzard forcing the power to go out, Becca reluctantly ends up under the same roof as Harrison, the grumpy football coach next door ... who also ghosted her two years ago after a seemingly perfect date and kiss.

Goofy, bubbly, and colourful, Becca was a true sunshine! Often labeled as "too much" or "too odd" by the men she has dated, I liked that she still stayed true to herself despite some insecurities. And I really enjoyed the unique addition of her working as a sorority house mother. Her relationship and dedication to the girls under her care was sweet.

I wanted to love this, but the "blizzard-buddy" fling Becca and Harrison fall into felt a bit awkward and forced. It didn't help that the bedroom scenes and overall language throughout made me cringe. I don’t mind a steamy romance, but this one very much focused on lust and their physical relationship. Because of that, I didn't quite believe their chemistry or happily ever after.

(heat level: multiple open-door scenes, explicit details)

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own

This was such a cute story. Grab your hot drink, warm blanket, your favorite pet and prepare to snuggle in until you're done reading this.
The perfect snowstorm read.
Becca Fairfield is the sorority mom at a girl's school. She loves her job and all the girls, she really does but it's Christmas time, her once a year vacation time. She's looking forward to all the girls being gone for the two weeks to have time to herself for a little wistful dreaming, some hot chocolate and man does she have a backlist of books to catch up on. This charming book has the wind blowing in and the electricity going out which means no heat when the blizzard of the year kicks in. Frigidly cold temps and the snow piling up means she can't stay there. Here's the fun part, that handsome guy next store comes to the rescue as she's able to bunk at his place while the storm rages. She's been dreaming about him for a while, but will things kick up a notch in this forced close proximity novel? This one had me laughing out loud but how will things be with them when reality sets in and the snow stops falling? Cute, funny, romantic feel-good worthwhile read.

Snowed in for Christmas follows Becca as she prepares to shelter-in-place for a record breaking blizzard. Becca is fiercely independent as a Sorority House Mom, but when a window at the house breaks hours before the blizzard is set to start even she can’t refuse the help of her handsome neighbour, Harrison. The only problem is that Becca and Harrison went on a date 2 years prior and Harrison ghosted her.

Becca tells readers that throughout the past 2 years she has been on countless dates where she has been described as too quirky, too much, and straight up annoying. It’s hard to disagree with those assessments. Becca was difficult to like since she was annoying with all her nervous ramblings and difficult to take seriously because of her job. If Snowe wanted to show a different side of a Sorority House Mom she shouldn’t have gave Becca stereotypical personality traits then do nothing to subvert them.

Harrison is a bland love interest. He’s grumpy and stoic, which gives him almost no personality throughout the book.

The romance between Becca and Harrison felt forced and, at times, awkward. They were supposed to have some residual chemistry from their date 2 years prior, but Snowe spent her time telling readers about their chemistry rather than showing readers through a flashback. The spice is fire hot, but, like mentioned previously, felt forced.
I would hardly classify Snowed in for Christmas a Christmas novel despite the name. There were only a couple chapters that actually dealt with Christmas and those lacked the Christmas cheer I was looking for.

Overall, Snowed in for Christmas had an interesting premise, but the annoying characters and lack of Christmas cheer made the novel difficult to enjoy for what it was.

"She's bold and full of life. She's like sunshine."
You know that girl that's super bubbly, welcoming, and warm and loves doing the most random and nice things for others... and her boyfriend that tags along with whatever she does with a smile and endeared look on his face? That's Becca and Harrison.

... yeah, that's all you need to know about this one. The miscommunication during the first 20% and then at some point later in the book might drive you insane, and I get why others lose their patience over it, but I understood why it was hard for them to open up in those moments. And, in the end, these characters were too precious and I loved them too much for me to get truly annoyed.
"You're a little mushy, my Big Grump."

I went into this book thinking about the reviews I had read. And, I am so glad I decided to forget about the reviews. I LOVED Snowed in for Christmas! I started reading it around 10:00 in the morning and finished it by 3:00 in the afternoon. I was drawn in from the first page to the last page. Can you tell I loved this book?????
Main characters, Becca and Harrison, are so likeable and endearing in their own way. I loved the chemistry between them.

Miscommunication
Author Jaqualine Snowe’s writing is solid and engaging.

Snowed In for Christmas was cute enough for a more fast-paced holiday read, but that’s about it imo…the miscommunication trope was so frustrating that it really ruined the experience for me. Not the cozy Christmas vibe I was hoping for

DNF Details:

How far did I get? About 40%, then I did some skimming just to give it the benefit of the doubt.

Why did I stop? It really, really wasn’t working for me. Lots of repetitive thoughts from the characters, who both harbor lingering feelings about a failed date from two years ago yet refuse to discuss the situation. They felt like college students, but were actually full-on adults, so it came across as juvenile. I also thought some of their internal thoughts were contradictory, which had me confused. My ARC copy definitely needed some work before it was ready for game day. But the bones of the story just weren’t working for me – I’d already lost interest before they embarked on their “blizzard buddies” fling, which certainly didn’t help the situation. Just not a win for me.

Was I enjoying it initially? No. I’ve heard good things about this author’s work and have been meaning to check her out, so a holiday romance seemed like a great fit. I love a snowed-in romance, and forced proximity is always a plus. But it did not take long for me to get a feel for the vibe, and I would’ve set it down much sooner if I didn’t have an ARC.

Would I finish this? No interest in doing that.

Who would I recommend this to? It’s a cute wintery romance with a lighthearted feel and lots of spice, so I’m sure there’s an audience for it. It would probably appeal to New Adult lovers the most, because it’s not a NA romance but it’s set on a campus and has a younger feel.

Well, I thought I would enjoy this novel. But unfortunately it turned out to be a disappointment. The narrative simply did not resonate with me. And it's probably due to the writing style which came across like a "cheesy" soap opera.

I didn't particularly care for the characters, Harrison and Becca. They both didn't appear to be fully developed. And Becca's personality started to annoy me with her child-like behavior.

The plot follows a second chance romance with a touch of enemies to lovers trope. Not much happens except the two-step as Harrison and Becca dance around the awkwardness of their situation. And at 34%, I just didn't have it in me to forge on. An unfortunate one star DNF.

This book had such potential and sounded so good!!! Neighbors get snowed in together when a big storm blows in, giving them a second chance at love.

However, it felt very surface level, with lots of gratuitous banging. I had hoped for more emotional depth to this story and was left wanting more if I'm completely honest.

A good first attempt and I would still read more by this author, but her debut was a bit disappointing for me. Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an early digital copy in exchange for my honest review!

Don't let the cover fool you. lol

I am typically an fantasy reader who enjoys the the shit out of rom-com contemporaries when I get my hands on them.

I walked into this story thinking it was going to be a hallmark movie... boy was it. haha

Spicy... like level 4/5 spice! I wasn't expecting it!

The character arcs were well rounded and believable and I did find myself getting weepy at times!

It's a dual POV and I didn't find it hard to pull each voice out from the other as they were unique in their wants/thoughts/and goals.

If you're looking for a fun read with spicy scenes, this is your book!

Snowed In For Christmas had a cute an interesting Rom Com premise, and started off fun, but, unfortunately, the story fell flat.

Becca Fairfield is a sorority house mom with plans for a cozy quiet Christmas alone once the girls go home for the holidays. Harrison Cooper, the school's football coach, lives next door to the sorority house and has spent the last two years avoiding Becca after ghosting her following a date. When a blizzard hits and the power goes out, the two are forced to spend Christmas together, cozied up for warmth in the dangerous freezing temps.

I found Becca and Harrison to be super flat and stereotypical: The quirky, petite blonde woman and the grumpy, brooding coach with no character development. Becca's character also seemed very infantalized - I don't know any grown women who drink hot chocolate daily. There were major communication issues between the two that just didn't make sense to me and Harrison's lack of leadership or training didn't make him believable as a college football coach. Also, the steamy scenes had super cheesy dialogue that gave me the ick and I really need more plot in a rom com.

I wish the author had put more effort into better developing the characters, diving more into the sorority "tea" and maybe moving up and focusing more on the one interesting plot development with one of Harrison's players.

Thank you to Forever for sending me an ARC of this book!

DNF @ 56%

This was…a book. The premise of a romance where the MC’s are snowed in together is such a great concept but the execution was…painful.

These characters are supposed to be adults out of college but they read far, far younger than that which is a bit uncomfortable given that it’s heavy on sex scenes. Speaking of, the sex scenes are cringy at best. The writing also doesn’t go beyond surface level and just doesn’t foster any connection to Becca or Harrison.

Harrison is supposed to be the grumpy to Becca’s sunshine but he’s just kind of a dick.

What I’d hoped would be a cute holiday read turned out to be another disappointment.

It had a lot of tropes that I thought would be fun, such as forced proximity, being snowed in, only one bed, second chance, etc but it fell so far off the mark for me. Harrison was bland and uncommunicative, and oh so condescending towards Becca. He treated her like a child and fragile butterfly and was constantly either hovering over her to “protect her” or telling her that she couldn’t do something as simple as walk from his house to hers in a snowstorm.

Speaking of, Becca’s damsel in destress moments were NOT it. I’m tired of the overly clumsy heroine act; you mean to tell me that Becca can’t walk next door without falling in the snow and somehow bruising her ass?

Overall, boring and disappointing, with chemistry that felt very forced. I finally gave up once Harrison revealed his reasons for ghosting Becca two years prior (spoiler alert: he thought based on the way she dressed, how much she talked, and how social she was that she would be too high maintenance and wasn’t worth it, therefore he ghosted her instead of being mature and talking to her.)

No thanks.
