This has been a great aid in quickly reading through the Bible.
I liked: Every day ends with a psalm Each day was broken into 3 short reads The recaps from the author were insightful and encouraging You move around in the OT so it was somewhat chronological and lessened the monotony there in the Kings/Chronicles area
If you choose this adventure, know it took about 45 minutes each day to read the assigned verses. (I opted to do all at the same time.) The author gives good tips at the beginning. I opted to do most of mine with the audio on Bible Gateway and I enjoying listening to the Word as a new experience. (Bible Gateway is a free website and they have an app.)
I needed a recharge in my quiet time and this was what I felt led to try. Highly recommend!
As soon as 90 Day Bible Reading Challenge Read the Whole Bible, Change Your Whole Life crossed my radar I knew I wanted to read it. I had read another book by Mary DeMuth and enjoyed it. Plus, I have read the Bible, but never in such a short time frame.
It was interesting when I started reading the Bible in such a rapid manner. I started hearing different Bible Study teachers' voices in my head when I would get to sections they had taught (like Beth Moore, Priscilla Shirer, etc.). I also made several connections that I had not made before.
While it is not easy to endeavor to read the Bible in such a short time frame, I found it to be worth it. I also enjoyed DeMuth's straightforward thoughts on each day's reading.
I think it would have been better spread over 100 days. I say that because life happens and I didn't complete it in 90 days 😂. However, I gave myself grace and continued until I finished it (probably around 95 days).
Game changer! I listened to a lot of the portions of Scripture as I was getting ready in the mornings and it was such a great way to put the Word before world in starting my days and setting my mind and heart where it belongs. Mary DeMuths daily reflections were insightful and gave me lots to think on, and the guided prayers at the end I often used as a framework to pray for my whole family and the friends I was prompted to pray for along the way. Highly recommend - I am now hooked on reading through the Bible periodically as well as doing deep-dive types of studies.
Having read the Bible in many formats, tranlations, and time frames, this book and reading guide provides a unique experience. 90 days may seem too fast to consume the entire Bible but this method offers the reader the ability to naturally see common themes and relationships within the 66 writings. The author provides brief but thoughtful observations for each day of reading. For the most part the reader reads straight through from Genesis to Revelation (save for reading 1 or 2 Psalms each day). However, the author makes a few mindful changes i.e. reading 1 and 2 Chronicles last during the Old Testament (same as the Hebrew Bible, and reading the gospel John before Luke’s so that Luke and Acts are read sequentially, as they were intended). Highly recommend this guide for lovers of the Old and New Testaments.
Highly recommend this Bible reading plan! I will say I didn’t read every single day of the devotional, but I did read the Bible reading plan. It was amazing to read through the entire Bible in around 90 days. It did take me a few days longer because I got sick on the last week. I also didn’t read all of the Bible but I did listen to the Bible being read aloud - which I think still counts! Reading the Bible in such a short time allowed me to make connections that I hadn’t seen before. I am even more convinced that the Bible is one big story and it is one that is the most beautiful and life changing story ever. Because it's true.
This is one of those books you had to stick to because getting behind would cause you to become overwhelmed. And yet, I encountered a fuller understanding of books in the Bible than I have from reading chapters. It is definitely a challenge worth doing at least once.
Truly…try it! This journey has yielded unexpected growth. I almost didn’t start because of discouraging comments of how I could possibly retain by reading that quickly!
Read and finished this book as part of the Bible in 90 days challenge. It was a valuable companion to each day’s Bible reading. I highly recommend pairing Mary’s book with the reading challenge. It’s short and sweet and offers a daily prayer at the end of each short devotional.
