I had to read this for a Marriage and Family Therapy class. It is a completely different kind of family therapy- Bowen bases this theory on the family system as a whole- the family is a living organism that should be handled in such a manner rather than just identifying a problem to solve within the family unit. Because it was so different from most psychological theories I had a hard time at the beginning with the language and dynamics of it; however, once I got a handle on it I really identified with it. The only reason it's not 5 stars is that it's not written by Bowen or Kerr so it's kind of a secondary source. The Bowen Center also has an amazing website to help associate you with its main theories and even get specific training. The videos are a bit dry but really help explain the concepts.

Titelman offers a great perspective on systems thinking and writes about his own thoughts, experiences and takeaways. I really enjoyed the variety of topics in this book, as well as how the author conveys them. I would recommend this book to those who have already read Bowen and Kerr and might be looking for something in addition to.
