Rose Cottage Book Club #2

Every Trick in the Book

Rate this book
The start of summer on Nantucket brings fresh opportunities and a dash of drama for the island’s newest resident, Luke Harris. With his law office set up next to Rose Cottage Books, he’s ready and eager for business.

His first client, Stella Jones, contacts him with an unusual request. Her son-in-law, a successful stand-up comedian, gets many laughs at her expense. She’s tired of being his comedic victim and wants to sue for defamation. As Luke tries to mediate the conflict and preserve family ties, he learns a little patience and persistence go a long way.

Another client, a wealthy woman who dies after hiring Luke to change her will, has him suspicious of foul play and facing difficult decisions on her behalf. To help him solve the mystery, he turns to the eager amateur sleuths of the Rose Cottage Book Club.

Meanwhile, bookshop owner Meagan Poe confronts another problem affecting the town. A slew of break-ins has occurred at shops on her street, and she’s determined to get to the bottom of it before she too falls victim. Her discoveries lead to unexpected twists and turns—with amusing results.

Beauty columnist Piper Watts also faces drama while tackling a secret-shopper assignment. She enlists Meagan to provide an honest review. But when a product test goes wrong, can Piper turn another beauty blunder into a work of art?

The island is astir with trials and triumphs, but they're nothing the book club members can’t handle together. In the end, their efforts prove that laughter is the best medicine, and true friendship is a rare and wonderful treasure.

I really enjoyed this book but I wish the inheritance recipients would’ve been shared as well as what they inherited.

I really enjoyed this book, the characters, and the mysteries. I especially loved Hash Brown the dog! I was surprised that Luke and Megan didn’t get together at the end, but see that their story continues throughout the book series. I was disappointed we didn’t get to find out who inherited. I would have loved a reading of the will scene. Overall a very enjoyable read.
