A really good retelling of The Fall of the House of Usher. This was a creepy, atmospheric novel filled with secrets and danger. I am a huge fan of Poe and anytime a story tells a version of his stories I am going to read it. Something about gothic horror just makes my heart sing. I love the horror of a house that keeps people trapped within but giving some hope of an escape. This author did a great job of putting Madeline in danger, whether it be from the house, her mind, or the people supposedly in place to take care of her. That forest was something else. I felt the dread and terror as Madeline tried to find a way to break the curse. The ending left so much to the imagination.
Enjoyable book. Creepy in a good way. It’s a cool remake of Edgar Allen Poe’s “The fall of the House of Usher”! Loved the concept and characters! Wish there were a little more details about surroundings but other than that it was good. Wish there was a little more suspense but I would definitely recommend it for 13-15 year olds.
