I have no idea where I found this book. Since I never consult my tbr, it's a mystery in itself. Anyhow, this book of who-done-its all occur around the Christmas season. I really enjoyed it immensely since most of the stories emphasized the mystery part and not a gruesome murder. Most were authors from the great age of mystery writers such as Agatha Christie, Dorothy Sayers, etc. Others I had heard of, but never read such as Ellery Queen and Rex Stout, which were very well done.
Some were terrible as in any compilation, but very few were and the editor chose wisely. One nice surprise was a sweet and funny story by Thomas Hardy, the gloom and doom author. One awful choice made by the editor was the poorly done illustrations, including the cover art. It took me a while to read as there are twenty six stories and each time I took it up, I was appalled by the cover, eventually covering it over with a Christmas card that I taped to the front of the book.
I admit my bias - I love short stories of mystery or horror. Great writers, great stories, this is at least my 2nd time through. See you next Christmas!
This is the anthology of holiday-themed murder mysteries that started my mother and me on a tradition of discovering and reading a new Christmas murder mystery every December. Spike the figgy pudding and get to reading about MURDER!
I picked this book up for cheap at a Friends of the Library seasonal sale a few years ago, and since then I've made it a tradition to continue it each time the holiday season arrives. I enjoy the illustrations and extra introductory text that come with each story :)
