Great book, the underlying plot points that can't be covered by the musical make the story even stronger. However at 1200 pages, there were plenty of spots that could have been cut. The history of Waterloo, the history of the sewers, the history of monasteries in Europe, examination of future revolts ... there was some extra flesh that could have been trimmed and not missed.
