Lost Boys

Rate this book
Sent by the Lost Boys to find them a father, the impish Air settles upon the first open window he could find. The window happens to be Mizuki's, who is forcibly whisked away to Neverland. Finding out that he is now supposed to play 'father' to the Lost Boys, Mizuki is incensed. However, forced to stay put, he gets to know the Lost Boys - and Air - a little better. Perhaps a little too well as Mizuki finds that he is helplessly falling in love with the boy.

I adored this book when I first read it, and recommended it widely.

A take on the tale of Peter Pan, it's a gently airbrushed story of a man who seems unready to be an adult, much less a father, and how he responds when Air/Peter claims him for Neverland.

The story has a lingering sweetness and there's something in Air's tentative exploration of the idea of growing up that kept me thinking about this one long after I put it down.

So the romance is actually done really well and I liked seeing the characters grow together. But the ages are just weird. I get why Air looks young as he is modelled after Peter Pan, but why does Mizuki need to look like a full grown man?? His name is never explicitly stated, so I wish they just made him look younger so it would be less icky.

If you are looking for Peter Pan. Or Tinkerbell, or any female at all, turn back now. But if you want a cute story with a few random lost boys, led by a boy named Air, then read this. It is a short story with a hint of romance (possibly chan). I wanted more with the pirates and Indians and other neverland-ish things but this focuses a bit more inward. A decent read and enjoyable enough but not something I will likely re-read.

One of the early yaoi books I owned, but I think it was more shonen-ai. At the time it was a favorite when there wasn't a lot of choices but not so much anymore.

Like most of the June titles, Lost Boys really can't be classified as yaoi. It's a short, playful shonen ai about a man, Mizuki, stolen away by a flying Peter-Panesque boy named Air so that he may be a "Father" to the Lost Boys. I guess the mangaka is trying to tease her readers with the pseudo-incestuous possibilities, but you see nothing of such a typically stark dominant-submissive plot. The manga more obviously flirts with shota, as Air is the definition of small, cute adolescent--and Las being the more extreme version of this, entirely innocent rather than mischievously curious like Air. Mizuki, Captain Vanity and crew, in contrast, are bishonen--Reux, the "Tinkerbell," is its epitome.
Unsurprisingly, the boy love in this manga manifests as a few kisses between Mizuki and Air, as well as an emotionally premature declaration of adoration from Mizuki. As a sort of afterthought, there's a brief story called Treasure Map where an "Indian" tries to claim Captain Vanity as his wife. The Captain had trod "on (his) shadow on the night of a lunar eclipse" and so must suffer the consequences. This probably would've been the better main story since the idea of a slight and beautiful "Indian" energetically pursuing the bewildered (yet aroused n.n) Captain lends the manga a more exciting prospect. :D Following that suitor's cameo, is a brief, semi-graphic scene between the Captain and his First Mate (har har). Which ends suddenly with their finding Air staring curiously in, hands against the glass, from the conveniently bedside window.
In any case, since the artwork is decent and the story short, Lost Boys is worth a read, but is otherwise forgettable.

This is probably one of my favorite yaoi books because it has such a fun, playful plot with serious undertones and investigates more romantic elements rather than purely sexual.

It plays off the Peter Pan story with the Lost Boys looking for a "father" instead of a "mother." It's interesting the developments between the character's father and himself and also with Air (the Pan figure).

There are also pirates (of course) and they are "hunting" Air, but their reason is far more amusing; you can't help but love the pirates.

Not superduper comfortable with Air's age, but Peter Pan has kind of always been that way, right? (Learning what a kiss is and such.)

I did find much of this playful and amusing, and we all know I'm a sucker for CUTE (i.e., the other boys).

A "soft and sensitive storyline" is about right. Mizuki's reactions to Air are a little odd to me, but otherwise, I kind of like the very light exploration of his past and present, memory, etc.

I'd really have liked to see more of the pirates, though. Yum. I like adults.

This was very much a delicate, gentle story that wouldn't had gone into the yaoi territory if not for the extra story at the end. And that's the good thing about it, I think - if the main story had gone into the yaoi territory the story would had felt rather... wrong, I guess.

I like the characters and I like this interpretation of Peter Pan - was kinda hoping I'd get to see Air as an adult though, maybe as an after story.

A cute yaoi take on Peter Pan. The author admits at the end of the volume that the story really didn't have yaoi in it, so she adds a short at the end with the captain and his first mate. Not the greatest story or the best yaoi, but very cute nonetheless.

Love love love the art style. The cutesy fluffy plot is not really my favorite, but it was so adorable (and the short story at the end was yummy enougg) that I kinda fell in love anyway. What can I say - I have a serious soft spot for fathers.

****I can't remember enough to give it a proper rating. I give things I can't remember well enough (but know I liked them back in the day) a middle score (2.5 rounded to 3) and then I will change it to reflect how I think about it upon a reread. If I ever reread it.****
