Literary Device: Onomatopoeia. A little girl and her father set off to pick blackberries only to be driven inside by a storm. When the rain stops, they set out again and discover various animals and new sounds and smells.
Swish-swished went the car, plip, plip, plop dripped the water, rat-a-tat-tatting went the woodpecker...
I love that this story depicts a shared moment between father and daughter. Even though there is very little dialogue between the pair, you know that they are enjoying each others company. I also like the impressionist style of the illustrations.
