Having had very little experience with poetry academically, I often have very little to say that's of any use to anyone who is remotely more adept than I. Impressions of why I do or don't like a piece largely rest on being able to grasp any tangible meaning of the poem(s), and whether the poems' cadence or meter is interesting when read aloud as well as in my inner voice -- and that's about it.
Gray's poetry, then, seemed extremely forced to me. Words felt jammed together and it seemed at times, too much was going on in a single poem or too little. The varying nature of the style coupled with (what seems to me) weird punctuation choices within the poem seemed off somehow, as if what was made to be emphasised was too obvious, breaking some coherence that might've existed had it been tempered a little more.
That said, this little collection was also my bathroom reader; therefore read primarily when I was going through my morning or bedtime face routine so perhaps that impacted my reading as well.
