I enjoy this series but there are honestly too many characters for me to keep up with. They’re all so similar. If they were more varied in their appearances and dialogue, I might be able to keep tabs on all these teams. Seriously, we’re up to like 25 teams of 3-4 people. It’s a lot.

The more characters that are introduced, the less I know what is going on. What is going on?

I am greatly enjoying this series (and anime) quite a bit! With volume 7, we get some bigger bad guys (black triggers with horns!) and a hint as to why Earth is raided for Trion (Chika would make a 'new god'???). Osamu and Yuma take a backseat as the Border teams as they battle the rabits and then an entirely new enemy - Aftokrator's horned trion constructs. It's all about teamwork this volume.

Story: A large scale invasion has begun and Yuma is worried - the enemy strategy makes no sense unless they have an ulterior motive or a trick up their sleeve. Jin's side effect has been triggered, however, and his precog ability tells him the worst possible outcome is Osamu's death. The other agents may not understand why a little weak B-rank is so important, but they all do trust Jin. Meanwhile, the invaders have realized there is a Trion user on Earth with huge potential - Chika. A secondary objective is to obtain her; to do so, they send their specially engineered highly skilled triggers. Each trigger has special horns to enhance their abilities. It will take all the skill (and superior number advantage) of the Border teams to protect Chika and the city.

The series continues to have fun with shounen action series conventions: Osamu is still pretty weak as a fighter but what he brings is assets - both Chika and Yuma wouldn't be in border otherwise. Jin recognizes, of course, that Osamu's importance doesn't come from fighting but on the softer skills. I like that Osamu nor Yuma are idiots who get lucky a lot - each brings something important to the table.

With this volume, we get to see those who taunted Osamu and Yuma in the ranking battles in action - and see that they really are quite good. There are some fun strategies used to confuse, detain, or defeat the Aftokrator triggers.

World Trigger remains fun without being repetitive (as sometimes happens with other action series such as this one). I look forward to every volume. Reviewed from an advance reader copy provided by the publisher.

I'm almost ready to give up on this series. After the first chapter of this volume, the central characters don't even appear. Page after page of multiple new villains fighting multiple squads of new good guys. Ugh. The creator is trying for epic and achieving only epic fail.

The Neighbor invasion continues with each side carefully maneuvering their pieces in an attempt to emerge victorious... or at least with as little damage as possible. The Neighbors are after the C-Ranks. Tamakoma squad is brought in to assist in protecting the C-Ranks. The humanoid Neighbors step in to divide the Border forces, giving the Rabits time to swipe more victims.

Meanwhile, Jin is the only one who is looking at this battle from the big perspective, seeing all the possibilities and trying to nudge his side in the right direction. This is proving to be increasingly difficult and time is running out.

The best part of this back and forth is that you can't tell which way the battle will go. There's been just enough balance that either side could win, making the story trajectory even more chaotic. If Border wins, yay, crisis temporarily averted. If the Neighbors win, oh no, but now we can go on an awesome rescue mission. Oh, the suspense is fantastic~

Interesting turn of events in this volume and builds the suspense! Border headquarters and the city are under attack by the Neighbors. Our heroes, Yuma and Osamu are in the midst of battle for survival and then things take a huge change. A new creature appeared in the middle of the fight and looks successive until more came!

I still love the story but this one was too much combat between irrelevant (or at least yet to become relevant) characters. I also saw someone else say too many characters and honestly, yeah. WAY too many characters that get dropped too soon to even matter, which doesn’t work bc they are part of a very important part of the story.

More fighting, kind of the middle of stories though the drama is ramping up. It was a bit of a pain for people to be mentioned before they were introduced (as far as I can remember) like saying what teams were out but it was a few chapters before we saw them to know who they were. I'm also sure some of my confusion on characters comes from people using nicknames and switching between first and last names (which are not obviously first or last to me since they're Japanese and some manga do it in the Japanese order and others do it in the western order so I'm never sure though I know intellectually this manga translation is using western order). Since the anime is all in Japanese and I just read the subtitles that hasn't helped the confusion, though I feel like I might rewatch parts now and have a better understanding.

Enjoyed this. The series seems to be taking a typical approach to building the world and villains. Will read more.

Review by D.B.: "I like how now it decided to get to the point. But I do like all the action and now it has a plot twist in it. Now I want to read #8."

By this volume, there are now so many characters I had trouble distinguishing them, and I didn’t care about a single one. This is an example of shounen manga when it’s overdone.
