Great book. Wright emphasis on the gospels as the central theme of God’s plan for becoming king is timely and helpful.
Wright looks at this plan through the careful, detailed explanation of how Jesus’ incarnation and death were the culmination of OT history and prophecies. His encounter with Herod, as a representative of ‘the world’ and how this world is defeated, ironically by Jesus death and resurrection is a great insight into how the writers of the gospels used this knowledge of the OT to speak to the Jewish tradition at the time.
Jesus, as explained in the gospels, was the long awaited, OT awaited Messiah.
A difficult read at times, certainly for me, but well worth it.
Provocative invitation to see the gospels as the unfolding story of how Christ came to earth to establish his kingdom. Asks good questions and makes you think. Didn't agree with every conclusion, but a helpful dive into the life and ministry of Jesus that is integral to his crowning moment on the cross.
Very informative, but at times too verbose. It could have benefited from end of chapter summaries or even bullet points; in saying that, I'm probably being rather lazy - as part of a learning process I should have done these for myself.
