A man's memory of his boyhood days on a homestead in central Montana told so well it will leave an indelible mark on the reader. The ever-changing adventure of family relationships and farm life, enhanced by a remarkable collie dog vividly recreates the time and place of Eunson's childhood. Taking the reader back in history to a Montana and a lifestyle almost forgotten, you won't want to put this one down!
Enjoyed the story very much, but I am biased as the author was born in my hometown of Neillsville, WI and I had the pleasure of being in contact with him near the end of his life by way of exchanging letters via U.S.P.S.
Don't let the 3/5 fool you, this book is perfect for what it is: a classic tale of a sweet boy experiencing the original western dream first hand by staking out land in Montana with his family in the early 1900's.
Might not be the best writing...but, my grandfather tried the same homesteading adventure. Wisconsin author who also wrote, The Day They Gave the Babies Away. (Movie version is: All Mine To Give)
