“the novel that ate the world” and left no crumbs!
published in 2003, this book wasn’t necessarily on my radar. i’d heard about it growing up from my parents but i didn’t really know anybody around my age who’d read it or even watched the movie. now that i have at 27 i feel like it was written for me.
yes it’s fiction and yes it’s not historically very accurate but anything that forces you to explore and question society and religion deserves a gold star. we are a society made up of rules by man who had no idea how to make sense of the world around him. many times these rules undermine women (among many others) and don’t even try to hide it. i like the idea of the devine feminine. christianity has great pr and paganism does not lol. i like a book calling out a lot of the truths behind the catholic church without undermining the purpose of religion and what it and God means to people.
now the book itself isn’t without its flaws. though easy to follow, it wasn’t incredibly well written. some of the twists and turns could be seen miles away (which is always a let down). the end felt a little crumbly and a bit unsatisfactory. but the plot and historical fiction/ thriller aspect was really cool. who doesn’t love a secret society?
This was my first book in a very long time in my attempt to get back into reading. Courtesy of my roommate giving it to me and telling me that it was a classic page turner where you’re always wondering what’s coming next. He was not wrong. I really enjoyed this book and it was a very lovely easy read.
I listened to this book. The mystery of it I enjoyed...the Holy Grail...not Biblical. Have heard about this book for years and always wanted to read it. Now I know. Again, I don't agree with what is reported by Dan Brown as the Holy Grail.
Felt like this book was so quick and at the same time sooooo complete in every detail and almost everything that was explained so clearly ! I loved to read it and the multiple POV were amazingly written! I'm going to search for Angels and Demons to see more of Robert's character !!!
After not reading for enjoyment for years, this is the first book I read. It blew my mind!! It had thriller, academia, history/historical fiction, mystery, and more! After reading this book I fell in love with reading again.
It had mystery, it had intrigue, it had couple twists, few inconsistencies but a great story with cool historically accurate plots intertwined.
If I could give a have score I’d say 4.5 but because I can’t I chose to round up to 5 as I don’t feel I could go down to a 4 without feeling a bit bad.
A masterpiece of mystery, information, and drama. Fast-paced and intriguing, this book begs to be finished once started. 4/5 stars only because I wanted more - it's quite quick to run through
