More gourmet than your average comic and far more entertaining than your average cookbook, Fear of Frying is a kick in the pants from 1978. Barber's doodled line drawings of each recipe and his droll accompanying notes are just a fun read even if you don't plan on making any of the recipes -- which are, in the main, good to very good and usually simple to prepare. The overwhelming majority of these recipes are meant to be made by a relatively inexperienced cook armed only with a frying pan (thus the title).
Note that this book has occasional naughty words, mildly suggestive drawings and middle fingers cropping up, so this might not be appropriate reading for the youngest cooks in the family.
