In his first novel, Cal Muzikar tells a provocative and unconventional love story about two disenchanted baby-boomers who meet by happenstance at a parenting workshop in Orange County, New York. Ellen Eastman is a kind-hearted, reserved, forty year old mother in search of direction for dealing with her rebellious son. She is stuck in emotional isolation, rendered powerless and handicapped by her own insecurities. Secretly wed at twenty, she's been trapped in a loveless marriage with a domineering, arrogant, and ill-mannered husband who's been indifferent and critical of her for too many years. Jake Carr, nearing fifty, is the counselor leading the seminar that night. A staunch individualist and nature lover with an esoteric approach to his life and his work, he is privately burdened by the state of his deteriorating marriage. The unexpected consequence of Jake's decision to help Ellen gain self-respect and recognize a better vision for her life, takes the reader on a memorable journey of a lonely woman's quest for self-discovery, renewal and independence. Destiny’s End is an endearing love story about inner conflict and choice that will touch the hearts of a generation of lost idealists
My old friend wrote this book, so though it was not a bestseller, it was a personal choice to include here. Thats him on the cover a few years ago, I remember seeing that photo before. I can see the threads of his real life woven in the book, love of golf and young people which made me smile. My industrial arts buddy of the eighties turned out to be a good writer. Made me want to go out west to see the beauty he always loved.
