As a retired gay military man, a wolf shifter, and owner of a bike repair shop, Kade McGraw is comfortable with who and what he is. When Kade does a favor for his adopted sister, Theresa, he discovers his mate is joining them, as the date of Theresa’s friend. The fact that Tom is human and knows nothing about the existence of shifters is only one of many hurdles. His mate doesn’t want to admit he’s gay, and Kade finds himself fighting for his future as Tom fights the mate-pull.
A straight-laced marketing executive, Tom doesn’t understand his attraction to the tattooed, pierced biker with the burning green eyes and sensual smile. Tom is so deep in the closet, he may as well be chained there. But Kade turns up at the oddest times, and somehow he seems to know every one of Tom’s hidden desires, turning his body against him. It doesn’t matter how much Tom likes it, though, because he has family obligations that don’t include revealing his sexuality.
Can Kade convince Tom that he can help him and his family? Or will Tom fold under the pressure?
This story has us finding Tom, the closeted mate of Kade McGraw, who is the best friend of Nick from Loving the Enemy. Turns out he's dating Jared's sister, Patricia. Truly I just love Jared and Carson. We have actually met Tom before - at Terry's bachelor party in Goading the Enforcer. Jared is for sure one of the best characters in this series so I'm glad he's got a pretty big part in Tom and Kade's story.
So Kade has to break up Jared's sister and her closeted boyfriend, woo Tom and then explain shifters and mates to him so he can claim the guy. Kind of a tall order. Of course there have to be a few wrinkles along the way, including another annoying nudge from "the scientists" who are experimenting on shifters and Tom's homophobic father.
It will be interesting to see who finds a mate next. I'm betting it'll be Kyle or maybe the new enforcer, Manon.
I get being closeted, but getting into relationships with women is cruel. He realized that early on but it still bothers me that he's been doing it for a while. Getting married so your family can get a loan is ridiculous.
That peril was barely even noticeable. There was no conflict. The characters are sweet but there's no plot really.
reread - While each of these stories is an interesting short story or novella, each in their own little series, they become much more if they are read in the suggested reading order by Charlie Richards as a whole. https://charlie-richards.com/reading-... While they are still not a 5/5, at least they become a bit more than okay and are much more interesting as characters mesh across and around individual series. Individually they are a 3/5 so that is where I mark them.
Ok so I skipped this and had to come back to it, and I'm glad I did. Not the best, and not my favorite, but I nice quick read and the leads were lovely. I will add I wish Charlie had been more descriptive of their physical characteristics, particularly Kade's tattoo's, but nonetheless I enjoyed it.
Somehow I missed the fact that it was Wolves of Stone Ridge series when I bought the book. If I knew that I wouldn't have bought it. I have already read one story from the series - The Vampire's Special Lover. The book was awful. And The Wolf Biker's Mate has the same MO all over it. The idea was interesting (and that's why I got the book) but the writing, the story, the characters... just meh. I am not being difficult or anything :-) Just a bit upset that this really cool idea didn't get the right execution. I understand that it was a short story and not enough pages to cover a detailed tale of biker-wolf wooing his mate, yet I can't stop thinking that with more effort and with shifting things a bit a better tale could have been born in the process. Something funny and more intense. I was actually hoping it would be funny. I understand that in the series the author spends some time in mentioning old characters and introducing new ones, but unless they actually doing something interesting to perk our desire to read about them later, I don't see why would we need them. Unless, it is a way of saying "oh, look, I have more books coming", but who would want to read them if they all the same boring-old-tv-painted-on-the-way shit.
Tom's character was so raw it wasn't even a draft. And the idea of him having an office (he is a head of marketing) in the store, yet they need half a milling loan..? That's just weird. They operate like a small town sport shop, but the amount of money they need tells a different story. I guess the author didn't thought through this whole loan idea. And with Tom preparing himself to marry a woman in order to get a loan (like he is some Renaissance "sacrificial lamb" who marries a wealthy woman for her family's money)..? Plus to make himself and a poor woman miserable on the off chance that she will help him get a loan through her brother..? Seriously?! How long exactly has he been dating this woman that they already talking about marriage? Because in the beginning with the whole situation of double-date it seems like they only started seeing each other. So it seems like it would have taken awhile to get married and ask/get a loan. That doesn't look like a very strategic move, especially with Tom supposedly being a marketing golden-boy. So do you hear what I hear? Yep! That's the sound of ridiculous bullshit.
The way the idea of marriage is later brushed off makes it obvious that there was no need for it at all in the first place. Same with the loan - it doesn't add anything crucial to the story. The story would have worked out just fine if Tom was simply in a closet and he met Kade while on a date with a girl. What was the author trying to achieve? To show that Tom is ready to sacrifice his happiness (not to mention the happiness of the innocent unsuspecting girl) in order to save his family's business? And he can't even get it up for a girl to save his life. What was Tom thinking? What was the author thinking? What kind of character is Charlie Richards trying to show us? Even from description of Tom the author gave us, you can see that he is not a solid character. You can't see or feel him properly, he is unfinished. And it shows in everything he is or does.
Kade. Now that's where I wanted to sit down and weep. Big men with tattoos and piercing in all the right places is my own wet dream. And what a waist of such a gorgeous character on a story like this. The one and only time I ever read about tattooed and pierced werewolf that is worth mentioning is in Blacque/Bleu. For all I know Charlie Richards could have taken her idea for Kade from the same book. Kade is a darling. Where Tom is one confused individual, Kade is straight forward kind of guy. He is gentle and attentive. He respects his friends and his Alpha. He is comfortable with who he is. There wasn't a lot of challenge in getting Tom's attention. The younger guy just got on with whatever Kade wanted from him. I mean, I wouldn't have said "no" to Kade, too, but I thought there was suppose to be some conflict in the story... something... somewhere... anywhere. Damn. There was nothing. It went so smooth like sliding down the hill in oily pants. Kade would have been even more perfect if only the author gave him and the story in general a chance. I don't mean unnecessary angst. I am talking about funny situations, cute interesting dialogs, the building of intense connection between characters. That kind of thing.
I honestly prefer quality to quantity in absolutely everything. So maybe instead of writing lots of small poorly executed stories the author should have written one solid book. Because she obviously has nice ideas, but she fails to deliver. I doubt other stories in the series are any better.
Met is mate on a double date. Kade was with his sister his mate was with her friend. Next comes dating finding out about Paranormal's meeting scientists mating and coming out to father
I check Amazon’s gay best seller list daily for new authors and books. When this book popped up, I was instantly pulled in by the blurb. A hot biker whose a shifter and his closeted mate? You sold me.
The Wolf Biker’s Mate is book ten in the Wolves of Stone Ridge series by Charlie Richards. Normally, with a series you would have to read books one through nine to understand what is going on, but to me this could be read as a standalone, which was great. (I have since gone back and purchased more books in this series as I fell in love with some of the characters introduced in this one.) But rest assured, you can catch what is going on without reading any previous installments.
Kade is a shifter who to help his sister out goes out to dinner with some friends of hers. When he meets Tom, he instantly knows the man is his mate, too bad the guy is on a date with his girlfriend. No worries, Kade decides to pursue Tom anyway and the chase and eventual capture is a fun ride! As Tom and Kade give into their feelings, Tom finds out Kade is a shifter. What happens next: will Tom finally come out of the closet for his lover or dump him because he cannot handle the revelations?
What I enjoyed most about this book was Kade. He’s sort of this bad boy biker type with tattoos and piercings who seduces Tom with hot looks, dirty talk and pure sex appeal. His characterization was very enjoyable. While Tom was your typical closeted gay man trying to deny his sexuality, he really doesn’t put up much of a fight when Kade comes after him. (Not sure if I would either!) But I did respect him for dumping his girlfriend early on when he realized he was attracted to Kade and not her. Also, another cool thing? The author has the couple spend time together outside the bedroom during their courtship. Yes, they go hiking in the mountains. That was refreshing to me in a genre where shifter books usually have the couple instantly in love and bonding without getting to know each other. However, do not despair fans of hot sex scenes, there is plenty of that too!
Now, I did not have any major issues with the book. So why the 3.75 rating you ask? I guess even though I loved the main character (Kade) and laughed at the antics of some of Kade’s friends, I wanted a little something different from your typical werewolf book in regards to plot. And while following the same tried and true format of other books in the genre is not a bad thing, overall the plot was not as good as some of the others in this series. (I highly recommend Jared’s story in Goading the Enforcer. That is easily a 4.25 star read.)
To conclude: recommended for shifter lovers like me and readers who like their men on the wild side.
Kade was introduced in Loving the Enemy as Nick's best friend and got on Miach's last nerve, but he while he was genuinely happy for his friend to find his mate he was envious. Now it is Kade's turn. Boy does fate have a sense of poor humor.
Kade agrees after a little fun arm-twisting from his foster human sister to join her as her date replacement at the last minute to double with her friend and her friend's new boyfriend. His sister wants him to come looking intimidating just in case the other guy is not right for her friend and needs to be intimidated. Kade doesn't have to work hard at the intimidating look. He's got Bad Bike Vibe down to a science with his big body, tats and leathers.
The joke's on Kade when he slides into the booth and finds himself across from his fated mate who happens to be the friend's date. Kade establishes quickly that the man is actually deeply in the closet, but that's only the first hurdle. Now he has to coax Tom out of the closet and leave his girlfriend. In case things weren't challenging enough the said girlfriend is none other than the frightening Jared the assassin's sister. But hey, every wolf loves a challenging chase to track and trap his prey so Kade's up for it all because this is his mate.
Tom on the other hand while strongly attracted to the big biker has his reasons for needing this relationship to work out. His family's outdoor sports store needs a loan to keep afloat and her family has money. But Tom can't make himself forget Kade especially after discovering that Kade is equally attracted to Tom. Tom finally does the right thing and discovers that things have a way of working out- just differently than he imagined. All should be smooth sailing until Tom is given a startling introduction into the shifter world and learns the truth about Kade even while he's placed in a dangerous situation that leaves Kade's heart in his throat.
I just love Charlie Richards' characters, but I do believe that Kade will remain a favorite. For a big fearsome looking guy, he is so playful and flirtatious even when on a mission to seduce his mate. He has so much stacked against him, but he's a wily one.
Then there was the vicarious enjoyment I had along with Tom discovering that Kade not only had some wonderful Celtic art coloring his body, but some piercings to drive poor Tom wild. Tom asks how that worked when Kade shifted to his wolf. Now wouldn't you like to know? *waggles eyebrows*
Fun installment that include those moments of danger near the end.
Double dates can be daunting especially if you were asked to tag along by your sister so she wouldn't be a third wheel. Can they make a convincing couple while Kade McGraw's sister makes sure this guy is good enough for her friend, Patricia? Well things go awry immediately. Not only is the lady the sister of the maniacal Human Jared, but the man Tom is definitely not for Jared's sister. Because he was Kade's mate! Kade's deeply closeted mate, who needs to marry Patricia in order to have a better chance of getting a loan to keep the family's Outdoor Fitters business running. And Patricia is very interested in marrying Tom. Oh Damn!
Tom could not risk his family's business for a fling. And why was he so attracted to the big tattooed biker. He had too much to loose to not pursue Patricia. He could never allow his deeply held down unwanted feelings to suddenly spring up. He wouldn't! No matter how much Kade tied him up in knots. Kade, big bad biker though he is, was terrified of doing the necessary groveling he needed to do to make sure Jared didn't find out afterwards that Kade had broken his sister's heart by stealing her man.
College educated, buttoned down, but an outdoorsman and a professional sports enthusiast had decisions to make. Could he man up and break up with Patricia? And face the wrath of his father, as well as loose the chance for a loan? Since he'd been promoted to marketing manager the store had been actually making a profit, but it was too late. Without that loan that Patricia's father probably would have supplied, he couldn't continue to implement the profitable marketing ventures that were so far successful.
One big thing that Kade didn't do during his romancing of the Human businessman was reveal he was a shifter. That shifters existed. And all the advantages of being a shifter. Leaving the door open for a shifter hater to twist Tom's mind on how horrible shifters truly are. A lie, a romantic gesture, shocking words & sights, a broken heart, ferocious fighting, and men becoming Wolves. Plus a shooting and a kidnapping make this story of the Stone Ridge Wolves full of excitement. If you like Jacobs ladders and Albert piercings among others then this story is definitely going to tickle...let's just say your fancy.
I've enjoyed all the books in this shifter series and this newest release is no exception. The accidental meeting of Tom while Kade's helping his sister is a good plot idea and pulls in family, which is always a nice touch. It also immediately sets up the mate-pull Kade feels and lets him know the problems he'll have with his closeted mated. And initially at least, he has plenty.
I like both Tom and Kade, but Kade is definitely my favorite. His sexy biker person, complete with tats and piercings is perfect for the slightly uptight and closeted Tom. The author did a nice job in creating two men at opposite ends of the spectrum for this story and did an equally good job (if a little fast-with Jared assist) of getting them together. The pacing was smooth, the descriptions well done and I enjoyed the return of characters from previous releases. They were integrated well, provided continuity, along with some fun and pulled in the ongoing scientist plot line. Did I mention that when Tom and Kade got together, it was sizzling????
My niggles: 1. The situation with Raven was handled off-scene. The reader didn't get to see how it happened, who was involved and it left me with lots of questions. Maybe we'll learn more in the next book but for now...lots of dangling threads. 2. In my opinion the story ended abruptly, leaving me with an incomplete feeling.
Despite my niggles, I still like the story and look forward to the next one. Some people might feel that it's possible to read it as a standalone but I really think you'd understand the returning characters, relationships and other details if the books were read in order.
Nothing is so hard and so sad to feel like you have to please everyone; placing your wants and desires on the back burner. In this story we meet an all american boy next door Tom Bristol. He is business savvy and hard working and scores high on familial obligations. He is not only easy on the eye he is also part of the closet fixings. This boy has no plans in sticking a toe out of the proverbial closet not even being pushed. So of course this author in her twisted literary mind gives this young unassuming man the greatest challenge in his life a "Sexy-as-fuck-sensually-pierced-tatted-wolf-shifter-wet-your-lips-harden-your-dick-walking-dream" Kade McGraw is part of the Wolves of Stone Ridge and he is way too yummy for words. Tom is definitely in trouble now. Kade McGraw is no ones fool he is quick on the take and does what a wolf would do. He circles his prey and studies him so he would be better able to seduce, entice and woo his clueless fated mate into his arms. Now that Kade has a plan and goal he just has to contend with a few obstacles before the happily ever after can commence. With the help of a few quirky friends and romantic moments this wolf may just get his man as soon as he deals with.... Tom's female date ,his homophobic father and a harsh introduction to paranormals and possible lost of job not to mention he still has to tempt Tom out of the closet. Oh well! It would not be a Charlie Richards book if it were an easy breezy joy ride, now would it? Charlie Richards
Tom's sexual image and "gender expression" - behaviors and looks - were too confusing - was he straight or gay? But Tom did not come across as sexually neutral either. The author stated that Tom was gay and not bi-sexual, but the way he was perceived by other people didn't match up. I couldn't figure out what he was. So when it came to the sex scenes with Kade I just went "yuck" and "gross". Even though he was gay, Kade's sexual attraction to Tom was purely the paranormal mate pull. Thus, I never did feel any sexual chemistry. So I just never could buy into Kade and Tom's sexual relationship.
Tom was pretty unethical trying to con Patricia into marriage in order to help his family financially. I could not buy into Tom being loyal to Kade unless they had a paranormal mating bond.
So basically Tom was a weird piece of scum. Kade deserved much better.
Sorry Ms. Richards, I need to understand and like the MCs.
Total guilty pleasure read! I know what I'm getting with this series and that's why I read them. Nothing new or different but a nice read without having to think too much. Kade, biker, tattoos , piercings...yummy! Poor Tom, he has been in the closet his whole life, but having a shifter mate sort of makes staying there impossible. I liked that Kade was pretty patient and didn't force or push Tom to come out, but I was a little suprised that his fathethawing reason for Tom's reticence and that whole resolution was sort of anti-climatic. Tom also took his mate being a shifter really well, amazing really..well except for the fainting part! LOL
Well the title pretty much sums up every other word mentioned in the book.
It was made very clear from the start this was a book more about sex than getting to know someone or content. Thus making it not my sort of book (which slightly makes my rating unfair as I shouldn't have kept reading if I didn't like the plot).
I thought that the climax was glazed over, the injured wolf wasn't mentioned after he was carried away and Tom came out way too quickly.
I also don't really enjoy stories where characters have sexual tension but never talk.
On the other hand, for what it is, the book is a quick, easy read and does the job of fulfilling the title.
If you haven't read Dominating his wolf from Kontra's Menagerie put this down and go read it. There is a scene that gives details from the POV of that couple that fills out details from this book. It's really better to read that one first.
I really didn't like what the closeted Tom was initially planning g and was glad to see him pull his head out of his was before Jared had to do it for him. I also liked that Kade was willing to go as slow as Tom was comfortable with on coming out of the closet.
I generally like for my m/m romances to start with everyone out of the closet or accepting of their sexuality but this one is an exception to the rule. Kade and Tom are sinfully hot together and twice as sweet. Tom really needed the support and encouragement he gets from Kade and Kade is just a perfect Alpha male lead: strong, sexy and sure of himself. I do think the ending is a little abrupt but it's a good story nonetheless.
It felt a little strange to re-live that dramatic scene from the spin-off series, only from another viewpoint this time. I’ll admit it had me confused for a bit, i.e. before it actually happened. I just read way too many series like these to keep track of what happened where. ^^;
But yeah, this was nice. Not offensive in any way and romance-y enough.
Back to a formula I like. I tend to like in the closet guys because it's so much fun to see them grow. Hot sex - and Kade was super super hot. These are not really deep and emotional reads for me - more like marshmallow fluff. Sometimes you need to throw calories and health to the wind and just enjoy a little sweetness :)
Much like Stormy Glenn, Charlie Richards infuses her stories with just enough intrigue and endearing romance to make it possible for to me overlook bad writing. Not great, but a pleasant way to pass the time if you're in the mood for some sappy m/m shifter fun. Be warned that Richards sucks at dirty talk. The sex scenes can be a little awkward at times.
Ok, I'm officially done with this series. While I liked Kade and was looking forward to his story, I can't continue to keep reading the same thing with different characters.
They meet.
They woo.
They have sex.
They are in love.
I can't do it for another 20 books. I've never been a fan of insta-love or cliff hangers. I hate when books leave unfinished business.
I really like reading her books. After reading the book I think about the next 2 or 3 people who will be in future books. This is a good thing because that means there is always another book to read.
