It takes a special author to keep a reader (me!) eager to read more after 17 books in a series – that would be Mr. Robertson! This book is one of my very favorites in the series. It continues to be well thought out and easy to read. Each episode brings further opportunities to dive deeper into characters’ personalities as they’re under continuous stress from the ever-present hordes of diseased trying to enter the buildings. Now tension is building due to dwindling food supplies and a growing power struggle between our friends and the faction within the former residents who miss their previous posh lifestyles. I was completely engrossed in the many twists and turns through several sub-plots that kept the pressure-cooker stoked, building the suspense. It kept me guessing whether any progress was being made; it seemed like one step forward, two steps back was the norm. I feared that no one would be left standing at the end. I am still thoroughly enjoying this series, and am eager to see what’s next. I received an ARC – this review is my honest opinion – and I purchased a copy to support this outstanding author.
Absolutely great pick's up from where book 16 finished. Which means you get straight into it. Multiple storylines keep the tension high. Totally absorbing you don't know who can be trusted and wonder if William and his friends have made the right decision. Joni continues to try and clear the old prison of the diseased. Full on could not put it down. Really looking forward to the next book.
An action-packed story with multiple layers to keep you fully engaged.
To follow a fiction series for seventeen installments as well as a single installment of associated Beyond These Walls tales takes a commitment on the reader’s part. In the case of the Beyond These Walls series this commitment has been easy to make due to Michael Robertson’s style of writing and storytelling expertise. I’ve come to realize whenever Michael introduces a slow part into his stories something big is coming, might not be right away, but some big event is on the horizon.
In the case of An Interesting Alliance, I never noticed that slow spot in the story, in fact of all the stories in this series the action and intrigue in this story were well measured, never too much or too little until they weren’t and suddenly, I was left wordless wondering how he accomplished what I had just experienced without so much as a hint. I mean in the earlier stories Michael pulled rabbits out of his magic top hat but there was usually something you could look back at and say yes that was the tell. This story will leave you sitting speechless…. In my case, I was satisfied but speechless. I’ve said that each new installment was the best in the series, but the previous sixteen installments, while being exceptionally good, and intensely entertaining are overshadowed by An Interesting Alliance. I love books & stories that leave me in awe where the author pulls off something without so much as a hint. I cannot wait to read the next installment in this series just to see what Michael has in store for these characters. I received an Advance Reader Copy of An Interesting Alliance from the author and chose to provide my review.
This book is so scary and thrilling that I read it in one sitting as I just could not put it down. It is a nail biting and edge of the seat novel, and I must admit, this being book 17 of the post apocalyptic survival thriller I was not expecting to be so engrossed. Our group of friends end up forming an alliance of sorts with those who had taken over the towers, those previously known as the vampires. However though they had brought containers full of food they were never trusted and many wanted them killed, especially Eleanor who had previously been a child of the oppressing class. This book is all about forging alliances, as well as being one full of betrayals, and in the end one doesn't know who can be trusted at all. On the other hand Joni and her group are still trying to make the prison their own but there is a lot of distrust between those previously guards and those who had been prisoners but who now had to find a way to live together. I must admit this was one of the best books in the series for me, and I enjoyed reading this very much and I look forward to the next book which I hope brings our group of characters closer to salvation and freedom but not before a war with the shining city!

A new community.
A new start.
An interesting alliance.
But Rayne should have trusted her gut.
The warning signs were there from the start.
And that was before the dead bodies started showing up.

Summary: As this story evolves, the two groups continue to struggle to secure and find a home that is safe for all. Eleanor the youngest part of William’s group struggles to find out where she fits in and who to trust. William’s group is forced to separate and tasked to find a way into the farm that is supposed to have everything the block needs.
Now back with Joni’s group things are not going so well. They struggle to find a way to save anyone they can and get the diseased out of the blocks.
Both groups continue to struggle to survive while never being quite sure who they can trust.
This was an action packed and incredible edition to the Beyond these Walls series. I will be waiting for the next book in this series.
This was an action-packed instalment of the Post-Apocalyptic story, where more than one group battle on many fronts...and not everything is as it seems. Yes, there are still the diseased but this time there is a murder mystery.
My favourite character is still Joni, so brave with an enormous heart. Eleanor was a great addition to the cast. The group of younger survivors continued to do their best, alongside bickering and realistic behaviour in teenagers...though tough and resilient because of all the horrors they've battled and witnessed. What an awful world, too, the politics no different from today's world where those in power want more.
Overall, I enjoyed this story, despite its disturbing themes, but I liked the endurance of many of the characters, the mystery, suspense and the twists.
An Interesting Alliance: Beyond These Walls book 17 by Michael Robertson. This post-apocalyptic zombie thriller continues the story of a small group of survivors that just cannot outrun the inherent evil that is man. I would have guessed by now that on this incredible journey they would have run into more than one semblance of good in this zombie-filled world. (but no) The group goals have progressed and changed again, (yes, bringing them closer to yet more danger) you just need to prop your feet up, take a gander and enjoy the ride. (I recommend that you read the series in order as Micheal does not rehash previous books like many authors tend to do in a series.)
An Interesting Alliance, book 17, in the action-packed series, Beyond These Walls, surpasses my high expectations! There’s no getting bored in these tense and often emotional, confrontational situations.
I began reading with excitement to discover what might befall my favorite characters. And, WOW, I was not disappointed. It was much like meeting old friends for a reunion to catch up on the most recent disaster and drama in their lives. I’ve spent quite a few hours getting to know them and I sincerely hope that you will find the same reading pleasure that I have.
Highly recommended!
Disclaimer: I received this ARC from the very talented author, Michael Robertson, and this is my honest and freely written opinion.
I started on another series and discovered beyond these walls and have diligently read each book. I am so keen for book 18. Will that be the final book? We will see…
I am so glad this series is over although I admit to skimming my way through books 7-17. I am glad there are no more and if he writes another one I do not want to know about it. Or read it!
Every time I read a new book by Michael Robinson, I am amazed by his talent for creating these worlds. Really did not see the conclusion to this book coming. Great read.
