Claire Chase knows what she wants in her perfect man. She’s even written a checklist to keep her from wasting time on men who don’t share her life goals. It’s supposed to make searching for love easier. Instead, she’s had nothing but trouble finding ‘the one’. Sick and tired of Claire’s obsession with the perfect man, her friends challenge her to take a break from her rules and have some fun. But when Claire decides to pursue her brother’s best friend, the man who is the complete opposite of everything on her list, they know she’s headed for trouble. Dylan James has given Claire one rule to follow. Her friends know it might be the one rule she can't help but break. _______________________________________ This story contains mature content that is not suitable for all readers. Elle Fielding is a true-blue Aussie who's as passionate about romance as Melbourne is about its four-seasons-in-one-day weather. Her love affair with romance novels started in her teens, fuelled by a steady diet of Dolly Fiction, Love Stories, Loveswept, and those irresistible Harlequin Mills & Boon tales. With a diary full of her own unrequited crushes, Elle figured it was high time to start creating some love stories of her own.
Elle's first crack at writing romance was, let’s just say, a learning curve. But she’s been honing her skills, swapping out personal misadventures for the sweeping world of fiction. She’s now living the dream, writing her own romance novels and loving every minute of it.
When she’s not busy writing or getting lost in a good book (or audiobook), Elle's living her own fairy tale on the Mornington Peninsula with her very own Mr. Perfect. For Elle, life's all about capturing those happily-ever-afters, both in her stories and beyond the pages.
Falling for your brother's best friend never ends well... or very well, indeed...
Claire Chase wants a stable, secure life for herself, while harboring an unrequited crush on someone who does not fit the idea of her perfect match. Egged on by her friends – concerned about her to the point where they’ve decided she’s in need of an intervention – she decides to go all in and suggest to her long-time crush and family friend that they have a fling before he leaves the country and she goes back to her search for a solid and reliable husband.
But once Claire has a taste of the “fun” that her brother’s best friend can offer, will she be able to go back to her regular diet? Or will the experience change her forever?
Elle Fielding has created real and believable characters that face the decisions that come with life in your 20s and 30s – that point in your life where you could go either way, and every decision may drastically impact your future. Do you want stability or adventure? Do you want to live in the now and think about the rest of your life later, or are you feeling anxious because you’re not prepared for the future and you already feel as if you’ve fallen behind?
The author writes tension exceptionally well, and if you’re a fan of sexy times, this book is for you. However, there is nothing gratuitous about the love scenes – they are there to move the plot forward and stir up emotions, not just… well, other things.
An added bonus with this book is that it is set in Melbourne, and written by an Australian author, so you won’t find any “shrimp on the barbie” or lots of “mate” sprinkled in to make it sound authentic (personally, I would have loved that, mostly because I know how Elle feels about Australianisms in pop culture (she’s never offered me shrimp when we barbecue!) and I’ve only heard a handful of “mate” spoken in Melbourne).
Recommended for: fans of the brother's-best-friend trope, fans of steamy scenes with a real emotional connection,
Wow! Wow! Wow! I totally fell in love with Claire and Dylan. Don’t Fall for Me is just a beautiful and heartfelt brother’s best friend romance story. I've been trying to write this review for a few days now and I just can't find the right words to describe how great this book is. Don’t Fall for Me is a great love story. The characters have depth and there’s such a great chemistry between Claire and Dylan. I loved how they were kind of enemies for so long and then as the story develops become so much more. It’s sweet, heartfelt, passionate and sexy; it has everything you could wish for. The book is very well written and the romance between Claire and Dylan is over the top.
The emotions and the interaction between Claire and Dylan were over the top, and damn their sexual tension! They had the pages going up in flames! It’s not just about the sexual tension or general erotica, no, Don’t Fall for Me is so much more. This book is all about the characters and their friends and family and how they grow through the book. It’s a book with only a few cliques and as the story continues you get surprised even more often. I especially loved how the story proceeded at the end and how it was something totally new and unexpected. I just loved it!
Don’t Fall for Me is definitely another great read this year and I really hope Elle Fielding will release some more books soon.
Do you love the brother’s-best-friend trope? How about steamy scenes and lots of tension? Add in some genuine Australian flavor and you have the recipe for Elle Fielding’s debut novel with Sheila & Swede.
Claire Chase may have had a crush on her older brother's best friend, Dylan, since she was a teenager, but that hasn't stopped her from trying to find the perfect man - the one who will meet all the criteria on her list. Her friends, however, think Claire needs to have some fun instead.
Dylan James does not meet a single one of Claire's requirements for the perfect man, which is all well and good, seeing as how he's getting out of Melbourne - and Australia - as soon as he can. He wants his friend's little sister to find herself a perfect man and settle down so he can stop worrying about her - and stop lusting over her.
Dylan's good intentions to keep Claire safe are put to the test when she decides that if she's going to try a fling with anyone, it's him.
