This is a must-read for children who are interested in science and curious about the world around them. It also proves useful to introduce students to light in a science class. The informative text and pictures that go along provide an engaging introduction to the properties of light.
The author, Trumbauer, starts by explaining what light really is and how it travels extremely fast. She then explains the several different forms of light, some of which include UV rays and infrared light. I thought it was very interesting that she explored how light interacts with a multitude of surfaces, one of them being mirrors. I think these facts would be extremely interesting for children learning about light in class. It gives them a fun and engaging perspective to go along with their subject textbook.
I believe this book is written in a way that young readers will be able to grasp and retain the information. I even think it has the potential to get students excited about their upcoming lesson on light! In my classroom, I would love to incorporate nonfiction texts that go along with the curriculum because I feel that it gives students the extra dose of information that they need.
