Poe came up with the first detective and the first horror story. Many of his stories have a mysterious, macabre feeling. But he first became famous with a poem, The Raven.
but many of his stories are (very) funny, and some are about his immersion in nature.
for a long time he was better known in Europe than in the US, because Baudelaire and contempories liked and translated his work.
The Fall of the House of Ushire inspired the eponymous Netflix series: each of the chapters is based on one of his stories.
