For some, the idea of discerning one’s call is synonymous with finding the right job, but the Biblical notion of calling is much grander. God’s calling engages the whole of our lives and was never meant to be isolated to one small aspect of it. When we open ourselves up to God’s lead, we can’t simply pick and choose which elements we follow and which we ignore. For this reason, the Christian notion of calling must begin first and foremost with the Caller. Discerning our call does not start with self-oriented soul-searching but with an open and attuned ear towards the Shepherd who guides His sheep (John 10:13-16).
