I give it five stars but the book is a bit dry and hard to comprehend due to extended sentences. I'm sure many people will love it but I was in a dark place while reading this and this book was helpful but dull. Not simply a feel good book but rather an honest light of hope. I loved it but was not in the mood for it either. It actually is a great book and definitely helpful just more helpful than many people like, the book motivates you to do true good (meaning Gods will) rather than just satisfy your need for entertainment or fake reassurance. This book keeps it real and even corrects itself in the footnotes at many points including a point that felt possibly too dark for me. Not everyone has to experience exactly what St. John of the cross experienced but the only way outof the darkness that he understood is pushing through for love of God. Your only light at points is your love of God so prepare yourself by choosing to love God as much as possible which is more than you think. You can do it, you must the alternative is a lie that you can choose which ends up being shame pain and suffering and worse while the Truth is God which is love faith hope trust and infinitely good beyond comprehension. Ask God for help and you yes You can do it. God bless.
