This novella contains graphic descriptions of sex and violence, making it unsuitable for children.Trinity Jones is a typical 18-year-old -- until she finds herself in the wrong place at the wrong time. As she comes to terms with what it means to be a vampire, Trinity makes it her mission to find her vampire assailant and her still-missing best friend. Unfortunately, with a slew of missing girls in their case files, the police are on the same quest. And neither Trinity nor the cops truly understand the dangers ahead.Combining elements of mystery, suspense, romance and horror, this novella is sure to please a diverse audience. It is the prelude to a planned Trinity Trilogy exploring how a modern woman approaches life in the undead lane.
Sue Knott has been writing professionally for more years than she cares to admit. She enjoys writing parodies as they make her laugh while she's writing. However, she also enjoys writing fiction, especially romance and stories that imagine the future.
Sue is the doting mother of a teen son and the long-suffering wife of an equally long-suffering (but much crankier) husband. She has also been "mom" to a bunny (now deceased) and an extremely energetic Siberian Husky who jumps on her keyboard when she's busy writing.
She has had a varied and successful career as an advertising copywriter. She has lived in Pittsburgh, PA; NYC; LaCrosse, WI; Scranton, PA; and currently makes her home in upstate NY. Occasionally she tries her hand at stand-up comedy, though she is in complete and total terror whenever she takes the stage.
Sue is an avid gardener and wishes she had time to pursue craft projects or even just to clean her house. Sue has a sweet tooth. She wears a size 9 shoe. She collects art glass. She recycles. She sewed her own wedding gown (big mistake). She revels in the outdoors and longs to be on the beach. She prattles on at the keyboard. She is a safety nutcase. And she loves to Zumba.
This novella is an enjoyable read for its interesting take on vampires. It starts out as though this is intended for a young adult audience, but quickly turns adult.
In the beginning of the story, Trinity is a teenager working a simple retail job and arguing with her parents about whether she can go out to a club. Trinity, being eighteen, heads out for the night even though her parents tell her not to because, hey, she's a legal adult. Her immaturity in the beginning versus her new found adult personality after she's been turned into a vampire is an intriguing revelation.
Suddenly, Trinity doesn't behave like a young adult, and she finds herself able to easily make her own decisions or communicate with her parents without throwing tantrums or involving herself in petty arguments. I like this aspect of the story because it's a unique take on vampires--that it isn't just a physical change, but a mental one too.
When Trinity wakes up as a vampire, it is her mission to find the man who made her this way, and to find her friend whom was at the club with her the night of her transformation. There's a cute detective, a few erotic scenes, and a violent vampire who gets a kick out of sadism.
The story switches between Trinity's point of view and the detective's, which is intriguing because in this vampire world Trinity can have a mental impact on a human (the detective in this case) even whenever she is nowhere physically near that person.
Overall, I really liked this novella. Yes, there are some scenes intended for 18+ readers, which are both erotic and violent. A few parts are humorous, others may be bothersome or disturbing to sensitive readers, and much of it is very well-written. Trinity is a solid character who is enjoyable to read about.
