SPOILERS!

I'm sorry, but for all those folks raving about this one, did we read the same thing??

Let's recap.

So we have a Heroine who is 18 years old and has just graduated from HS and is about to go to college. She has had a kidney transplant 2x now and has gone through some rough times but she has a great family & a BFF who I wanted to know more about. She's also been in love with her brother's BFF since she was a child but he has never noticed her that way.

The Hero in this one got on my nerves. He is a 27 year old grown ass man who had a career in motor racing and GF of 3 years whom he loved deeply - until she betrayed him by cheating, lying and costing him his career that is.

Now you would think he would hate & loath this OW until kingdom come and that we would not hear about her again in this story, right? Yeah...NO.

I spent the ENTIRE crappy story reading how much he had loved deeply the OW, how beautiful she was, how he & she lived together for 3 yrs & supported each other (or mostly him), how he LICKED, TASTED & KISSED EVERY PART OF HER BODY.... Yep, author went there. We had to get a visual & confirmation about that 'cause we as readers don't have any imagination at all. Then on top all of that crap, we have to spend the ENTIRE story of him STILL feeling hurt & betrayed by the OW! Let me repeat...THE ENTIRE TIME!!!!

There is even a scene about 90-95% in which he goes to the funeral of his ex's mother whom he had loved and has to rehash the whole "why you did me wrong" crap with the OW when he had loved her so, so much and given her all of himself. He even for a minute forgets that he is with heroine now and/or that he is not suppose to be attracted to her cause you know, she cheated on you dude! Get a grip! Lol.

Then there is the "ick" factor. Heroine is just 18 (a teenager still) & he is a grown ass man. If author had somehow made her a more grown-up/mature young woman, perhaps I could have bought into it, but all we got is how heroine been so much in love with him all these years and wanted him to deflower her and he has no problem with that of course....

Then there is the fact that at 95% or so, Hero asshole finally admits that he had been using heroine (his BFFs little sister & an innocent little girl whom he knew she was crushing on him) to get over his ex. At 95% people! And if that is not enough to piss you off, we learn that he kissed heroine a few months after he broke up with the OW but then we learn that the OW lies to him again and they reunite (until they break up again!). Now the kiss happened a few months before story starts but you would think that after kissing heroine, he would have realized he had feelings for her and the OW would seize to exist, right? Yeah.. No. As far as we were told, he didn't even give it another thought until heroine forced herself on him. And yes folks, heroine was the aggressor & pursuer here which is why if you are expecting a "romance" , just mosey on cause you won't get that with this one.

There's a lot of other things I can say more about it but I just don't want to. I rather trash & forget it 'cause it is not worth my anger or the time I lost reading this crap.

'WHEN WE WERE RECKLESS' is the third, full length contemporary romance book in Emery Rose's 'LOST STARS' series. Spoken in 'Dual Perspectives.'

God I love this world the author has created, and never want it to end..Each book gets better and better, this is one I couldn't get enough of, I never wanted their journey to end, so it was such a bittersweet ending when I closed that last page. I went from swooning to giggling, and when the feels hit I was a goner, that slow burn got its hooks into me and didn't let go, loving every second, minute, hours I spent reading..

it started strong, the first few chapters kept me invested but gradually it started to look like any other brother's best friend romances out there. not saying that there aren't any good/ unique stories in that trope but this is not one of them. i am bored and yawny and sleepy and i really can't continue rn, not when every chapter feels like a chore. maybe later maybe never. idk.

WHY THE HECK HAVE I BEEN SLEEPING ON THIS AUTHOR? Oh my age-gap loving heart- this story was everything I wanted. Longing, romantic tension, a chemistry that can not be suppressed or denied, and an emotional sincerity and complexity that brought both the story and the characters depth. I am pretty much obsessed with this story- from start to finish I was enthralled.

The architecture has a delicious forbidden flair- best-friends sister AND an age gap. But, there’s so much more substance here. Our heroine Quinn is enjoying her final summer before she goes to college- moving away from her super protective older brothers for the first time in her life. For the first time, she’s doing something on her own- something that inspires her to sink into her untapped boldness. A boldness that inspires her to pursue her long-time, unrequited love for her brother’s best friend- discarded motorcross star Jesse, a man nine her senior and a man recovering from a pretty toxic romantic situation that has his heart locked up tight. A man who only now is starting to see her as more than a pseudo-kid sister.

And while their story is certainly steamy and engrossing, it is also really beautiful. A reminder of the power of sincere and heartfelt recklessness it takes when it comes to giving someone your heart- the reckless bravery it takes to heal and trust another, even when love comes in the most unexpected, or even inconvenient, of times and places. Watching these two evolve from a kid crush into a soulmate connection from the most unlikely of connections is a thing of beauty.

The chemistry between Jesse and Quinn is magnetic - together they are mesmerizing and layered. The perfect push-pull longing. Jesse may be rough around the edges given his wounded soul- but he’s charming, thoughtful, caring, and hard working. His dreams and heart have both been battered, so he’s a man in emotional recovery-struggling with his own repressed emotions, residual anger, and a deepest fear. He’s moody, withdrawn, and lost. Others recognize he’s not his full self- the man who was one a vivacious star. But no one sees him like Quinn sees him- and his carefully guarded vulnerability only makes her love him more. She shows up for him in the way only she can- with an open heart and with unconditional love. A love that Jesse isn’t ready for- but one that reminds him just who he was….and even more so, who he can be. And Emery makes him so easy to love- she lets us see so deeply into his heart that we understand and root for him. We see the worst of him, but we also see the best- and his heart is so charming and swoony.

And Quinn- I could not adore her more. She’s so brave and honest. There’s a strength in her authenticity- even though so many around her worry she is weak because of her past struggles. But she’s the strongest, most self-actualized character in this whole story. And while Jesse’s story is about coming back to himself, as he finds Quinn, Quinn’s story is find her own confidence to take the risk on herself- on her own dreams. She’s young, but she’s incredibly mature. I loved her vitality and hopefulness that is contagious- and so compelling. You can’t help but fall in love with her- and I love how she fights for her and Jesse even when Jesse isn’t ready to fight himself. She’s the star of this story- it’s heart and soul.

I cant wait to read the rest of the stories about Jesse’s family, and I’m hoping we get stories about all of Quinn’s brothers- they are just as delicious and interesting. If you’re like me, stop sleeping on Emery Rose- strong writing, meaningful story-telling, emotional resonance, and fantastic characters. There's a profound emotional quality to this story- an intimacy that I felt through every word. It's the kind of writing that is oft imitated but rarely perfected- this is writing that has FEELING. Just a beautifully told story. I’ll be one-clicking her from now on!

4.5 Fabulous stars!

‘Love could heal you, or it could destroy you. What was braver, or more foolish, than offering up your heart to someone and saying, ‘Take it. It’s yours. Treat it with care. It’s fragile and breakable.’

If you haven’t added the Lost Stars Series by Emery Rose to your TBR’s yet, we highly recommend immersing yourselves in the love lives of the McCallister brothers! We’re consumed by this series – these McCallister men certainly make a meal out of finding their soulmate, but when they do…they give everything they have making us swoon, cry and melt along the way.

When We Were Reckless is the third book in the Lost Stars Series, and it had it all – forbidden love, unrequited love, age gap, slow burn, brothers best friend’s little sister, sexual awakenings, and emotional growth – and we ate up every morsel of angst, heartache, love, and friendship.

‘He was my friend and my soul mate. He was everything I’d always dreamed he would be.
Unforgettable. Irreplaceable. The love of my life.
If only I could be his too.’

So far in the series, we’ve met Jude, Brody (their cousin), and now 27 year old, Jesse McCallister, the Moto Cross champ who finds love with Quinn Cavanagh, the 18-year-old little sister of his best friend Mason. Every book has captivated us from start to finish with When We Were Reckless being no exception. And you know what? We can’t contain our excitement for their brother, Gideon’s book!

Quinn Cavanaugh, has had a crush on Jesse McCallister since she was a little girl, and nothing has changed in 18 years. Jesse’s back in Cypress Springs, licking his wounds after an abrupt end to his Moto Cross career and a breakup with his girlfriend leaving him feeling lost and emotionally drained.

‘Fuck my life. Fuck her for making me fantasise about her. Worry about her. Want to do everything in my power to protect her.’

Quinn is biding her time over the summer before beginning her College life at UCLA – and Jesse returning home. Being in the same vicinity as him unsettles her and brings back to the surface those feelings of unrequited love she’s held for Jesse throughout the years, and so begins their story.

‘Unrequited love. Was there anything more painful?’

Emery Rose perfectly captured the beauty and pain of first love and unrequited love. She captured the torment and passion of closure and moving on, and she created a story where the path to true love wasn’t just rocky but paved with boulder-sized obstacles that sent our hearts on a roller coaster of emotions.

‘Love makes you reckless. All logic and reason flew out the window, and you let your emotions take the driver’s seat. You took your chances, pretending to be brave while you ignored the consequences. That’s how it was for me, anyway.’

We felt it all, the push and the resistance, the love and the anguish, in a story that gave us those ‘old school‘ vibes that reminds us why we love this genre. There’s nothing like torturing your heart, only to have it healed in the most wonderful way, and topping it off with an epilogue that was perfection!

- Age gap
- Brother's best friend
If I could give you words for the vibe it gives me they will be 'summer, kisses, motorcycles, Unrequited love, Daises, childhood dreams and recklessness.
Quinn and Jesse have a complicated relation from the start of the book we see Quinn (heroine) being in unrequited love with Jesse (hero), her brother's best friend who is nine years older than her.
It a slow burn but you can definitely fell the push and pull of emotions between them.
The thing I love the most about our heroine was how clear she was about what she wants, she never shied away from what she wants from Jesse.
I really like the family dynamics, these made me want to read the books these one.

"𝙇𝙤𝙫𝙚 𝙢𝙖𝙠𝙚𝙨 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙧𝙚𝙘𝙠𝙡𝙚𝙨𝙨. 𝘼𝙡𝙡 𝙡𝙤𝙜𝙞𝙘 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙨𝙤𝙣 𝙛𝙡𝙚𝙬 𝙤𝙪𝙩 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙬𝙞𝙣𝙙𝙤𝙬, 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙡𝙚𝙩 𝙮𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙚𝙢𝙤𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙨 𝙩𝙖𝙠𝙚 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙙𝙧𝙞𝙫𝙚𝙧 𝙨𝙚𝙖𝙩"

At the beginning of the book we see Jesse dealing with a heartbreak, and wasn't in best place to give Quinn what she deserves, it is really great to see how his feelings and emotions changes day by day with Quinn.
The evolution of there relation from casual to something special and finding there way to each other sweet was a ride.

DNF @ 43% - I was bored. The H was wishwashy and kinda creepy with how he used the h, who he’s known all his life, when he’s still super hung up on his ex. I didn’t like how the h was the sexual aggressor while also coming off as immature.

“i don’t want to be reckless with you”

3.5 ⭐️ book three in the lost stars series by emery rose

another book to confirm how addictive emery’s writing is! this one just wasn’t for me given three tropes i rarely love: age gap, other woman, and miscommunication

i found myself imaging different ages for the main characters because of the nine year gap between them (the mmc knew the fmc as a literal baby and grew up together)

would’ve also loved less mention of the mmc’s ex and miscommunication to make for a shorter book

besides that, i love the found family aspect and had so much fun reading about my favorite characters from the previous books! she also writes the cutest little scenes and gives the full circle feeling by the end

♡ age gap, brother’s best friend romance

my updated ranking of the lost stars series
1. when the stars fall (book 1)
2. when the storm breaks (book 2)
3. when we were reckless (book 3)

i love love love the setup for when wrecked meets ruined (book 4) and i cannot wait to read it 🤍

***AUDIOBOOK***

3 STARS

I don’t know. I think maybe this world isn’t for me. I DNF’d book one after a few chapters because the tropes and storyline are ones I don’t love (so personal reasons, nothing else).

And I think ultimately, while I finished this one, it is the world and characters that don't jive with my reading preferences, not the writing.

Yes, the heroine is 18 but she reads very young and naive. She has the need and sense for adventure, which resonates with 18 year old me, but I found myself annoyed with her a lot.

Jesse, is 27 or maybe 28, (I don’t really remember but definitely about 10 years older). I didn’t get his attraction to her beyond he was down on his luck and she was a bright spot of happiness.

And don’t get me started on the conflict. The whole situation with her was VILLLEEEEE. I hate her.

I really wanted to love this world and this series but it just didn’t do it for me. I definitely won’t be picking up the second book.

BUT, would I read this author again? If the blurb called to me, yes. This isn’t bad writing or even really bad story-telling. I just don’t love the world, connect to the characters or their romances. It is definitely a personal preference for me.

***the audiobooks were well done.***

⭐️ 4 Sunshine Girl stars ⭐️

What is the moon without the sun, what is a night sky without stars, what is love without heartbreak and what is life without unrequited love… incomplete that’s what.

Quinn knows all about unrequited love, since she was a little girl Jesse has always been her one great love. Unfortunately she has always been his best friend’s little sister, however now she’s a young woman surely Jesse will see she’s the one for him too.

Jesse is a reckless motor cross racer, he had his heart broken and sworn off any type of commitment, all he can offer is no string attached sex. However even he draws the line when it comes to Quinn, she’s young and completely off limits, he promised his best friend to look after his little sister not to have naughty fantasies with her taking center stage.

If only temptation were so easy to flee. Besides Quinn has another plan, she has set her eyes on Jesse and nothing will stay in her way. Both will need to learn that when you play with fire you may get burned.

~𝑳𝒐𝒗𝒆 𝒎𝒂𝒌𝒆𝒔 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒓𝒆𝒄𝒌𝒍𝒆𝒔𝒔. 𝑨𝒍𝒍 𝒍𝒐𝒈𝒊𝒄 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒔𝒐𝒏 𝒇𝒍𝒆𝒘 𝒐𝒖𝒕 𝒐𝒇 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒘𝒊𝒏𝒅𝒐𝒘, 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒍𝒆𝒕 𝒚𝒐𝒖𝒓 𝒆𝒎𝒐𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏𝒔 𝒕𝒂𝒌𝒆 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒅𝒓𝒊𝒗𝒆𝒓'𝒔 𝒔𝒆𝒂𝒕~

Jesse needs to man up and take responsibility for his actions, he needs to grow and accept that love sometimes isn’t all about heartbreak and betrayal. Quinn will find out that being reckless comes with consequences, boldness is easy to embrace when you’re growing up, be ready for the possible fall out is all about adulting.

~𝑱𝒆𝒔𝒔𝒆 𝒘𝒂𝒔 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑺𝒖𝒏, 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑰 𝒘𝒂𝒔 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑴𝒐𝒐𝒏. 𝑶𝒖𝒓 𝒕𝒊𝒎𝒆 𝒕𝒐𝒈𝒆𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒓 𝒘𝒂𝒔 𝒇𝒍𝒆𝒆𝒕𝒊𝒏𝒈. 𝑻𝒉𝒊𝒔 𝒍𝒊𝒕𝒕𝒍𝒆 𝒂𝒓𝒓𝒂𝒏𝒈𝒆𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒕 𝒉𝒂𝒅 𝒂𝒏 𝒆𝒙𝒑𝒊𝒓𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝒅𝒂𝒕𝒆~

Stand-alone full length novel in an interconnected series, each character has his own book. Told in dual perspectives, this is a sweet story with some bumps along the road and a few drops of bitterness. I couldn’t connect straight away with the characters, I didn’t feel the chemistry necessary to get their story under my skin. Sometimes I felt Jesse wasn’t really all in as I would have liked, Quinn was too besotted and infatuated, I wish she had more of a backbone and independent thoughts.

ADVENTURES. SUMMER KISSES. FULFILLING CHILDHOOD DREAMS.

I adored Quinn & Jesse's story! From the childhood memories to the friend-zoned chats to jealous moments to the stolen touches! Every single thing....right down to the rainy day kisses! Be prepared though, because my heart broke for this fierce & brave girl so many times while reading this book. You can't help but love Jesse yet at the same time want to smack him awake to realize exactly what is RIGHT in front of him. He comes back home so broken that it's hard for him to see past the pain but it's not long before Quinn heals him in a way that no one else would ever be able to. Oh sweet Quinn, what a strong heroine you were...always fighting for what you always knew you wanted and deserved! These two just fit so perfectly together! Just the way they love, lift and support each other without any hesitation....often without even realizing it, simply because it's what their heart and mind desires to do for the other is the kind of thing that real love stories are made of!

I LOVE this entire world! Jesse's brother Jude was my 1st Emery Rose book (When The Stars Fall) and I fell hard and fast for her characters & writing while reading it. Then their cousin Brody broke my soul with his story (When The Storm Breaks) while at the same time created an ache for Jesse's story!
I loved the little pieces of the previous couples that we got in this one! It was just enough to give us a little view into Jude & Brody's journey with their families after their own books ended yet she didn't focus on them so much that it takes away from Jesse & Quinn's story! Finishing Jesse's story now has me craving Ridge's and Quinn's brothers! I can't help it....sometimes you finish one book wanting books for a whole slew of side characters because an author writes that exquisitely!
It doesn't matter what is next; I plan to read it because this author proven more with each book that she owns a spot on my favorite authors list!

Another gorgeous read from Emery Rose! This book is an intense and emotional ride with wonderful characters and fantastic chemistry. A childhood crush/brother’s best friend, age gap, unrequited love story written with lots of heart, I loved it!

Jesse McCallister is the third of the McCallister boys to have their stories told in this series (he’s the brother of Jude, hero from book #1, When the Stars Fall). He is a professional motocross rider who has just stepped away from his sport, and is back in his small home town feeling lost and trying to figure his life out.

Quinn is the younger sister of Jesse’s best friend, Mason. They have always shared a close relationship, he has always been there for her, and she has loved him for as long as she can remember. And despite their nine-year age gap, now that she’s 18, she’s desperate to finally make him see her as more than just a kid.

It wasn’t just a girlhood crush. My love for him was so deeply embedded that I’d have to rip out a piece of my heart to be free of it.

The feelings in this book are intense from the start. I could feel the connection between Jesse and Quinn, and you can tell that their bond is special. I could feel Quinn’s love and longing for the man she’s always loved, and while Jesse doesn’t own his feelings, you can tell that there’s something there. And it’s that unspoken thing that makes this such an irresistible dynamic. You know that Jesse has feelings, he just doesn’t realise or accept it, and watching him start to see Quinn in a whole different light was so gorgeous!

He was my friend and my soul mate. He was everything I’d always dreamed he would be.
Unforgettable. Irreplaceable. The love of my life.
If only I could be his too.

They are very slow to figure things out, so we get this absolutely delicious situation where there’s intense stares, secret touches and kisses, and heartclenching ‘moments’ between them, plus highly entertaining moments where their jealousy and possessiveness overwhelms them. Quinn is bold and brave, and she puts herself out there with Jesse, which I absolutely loved! But he has a whole series of issues that he needs to wrestle with, and his feelings for Quinn are just one of those. He cares so deeply for her, but there’s a lot standing in their way. It’s emotional and exciting, with well-written angst that makes it all so intense, and I couldn’t wait to see what would happen between them.

Love makes you reckless. All logic and reason flew out the window, and you let your emotions take the driver’s seat.
You took your chances, pretending to be brave while you ignored the consequences.
That’s how it was for me, anyway.

All of that drama is absolutely worth it when we get to see these two come together. Their friendship is so special, they laugh, they play, they are there for each other, they enjoy each other, they ‘get’ each other. And when things shift for them, it may be hard-fought-for, but it’s natural and so beautiful. They truly seem like soulmates and it feels so right for them, the playfulness of their friendship is still there, the chemistry sizzles, and there’s a fantastic balance of fun, emotion and sexy time. I loved seeing them together.

“I don’t want to be reckless with you.”
“I want to be reckless.”

But they still have issues to overcome – their families, their pasts, and their plans for the future all have to be considered, and Jesse’s not even sure what he’s capable of when it comes to love. It’s an emotional ride watching them figure it all out.

Love was a leap of faith, wasn’t it? It was risky to put your heart on the line.
Love could heal you, or it could destroy you.
What was braver, or more foolish, than offering up your heard to someone and saying,
Take it. It’s yours. Treat it with care. It’s fragile and breakable.
Nothing. Absolutely nothing.

But it’s worth it! It’s such a beautiful love story, and I loved seeing these two find their HEA.

“You’re worth it, Quinn. You’re worth everything.”

The characters from the previous books appear, and I loved catching up with them again – seeing where they are at, living out their HEAs and watching them be there for Jesse was such a treat. I can’t wait for the rest of the boys to get their books, and I’m hoping that Quinn’s brothers will become a part of the series and we’ll get books for them, too, because they are a fantastic bunch, and there are some potentially awesome stories just begging to be told!

I loved this book, and I’m loving this series! The stories are emotional and intense with chemistry-filled, passionate romance, and I can’t wait for more.

4.5 stars!

The H is more obsessed with his ex/Ow than h.
He loved the ex, not the h lol. She’s more his rebound.

The entire book is about him still being hung up on and pining for the ex/Ow.🙄
- at 90%, the H is still attracted to and is still hung up on his ex, and admits he’s been using the h to get over his cheating ex- love of his life.🙄

The H knew the h all his life too?

If you love to be tortured with unrequited love, forbidden romance, age gap goodness and every kind of angsty brilliance- When We Were Reckless by Emery Rose is for you! My heart aching and swooning in the best possible way. Heart wrecking and devastatingly emotional story!

Quinn Cavanaugh has always loved Jesse James, her brother's best friend. But he has always treated her like a sister. Now it's time for Quinn to fly and leave her home town in Texas to go to California for her college. And Motocross star Jesse has returned home after retiring suddenly with injured heart and injured body. This may be her last chance to do something about her unrequited love. But is Jesse in the right headspace to give her what she needs?

I am mindblown with the writing of Emery Rose. The author poured so much raw emotions in every page! It was phenomenal. Quinn has survived so much and I am proud of the little warrior. She has a kind heart, a sweetness that attracts and soothes the most wounded souls and at the same time she has a fierceness. She love Jesse with everything but that didn't mean she let him break her. On the other hand, I am melting over Jesse. Such a perfect man! Life has betrayed him and broken him but he is still a good man through and through. And that's why he kept on pushing Quinn because he doesn't know if he is capable of loving her or deserving her. Quinn is still a dreamer and a die hard romantic while Jesse has seen all the bitter and ugly sides of love. I absolutely loved the push and pull between them. Holy slow burn epicness! I felt like my heart is being torn apart with the sweetest angst! I cannot tell you just how emotional this story is. The author depicted the emotional turmoils just perfectly and this was one hard earned happily ever after. Also the chemistry was nuclear hot! You can feel the electrifying attraction that defied every obstacle.

If you love your love stories deeply emotional, you cannot miss When We Were Reckless by Emery Rose.

Since she was little a little girl, Quinn Cavanaugh has had a crush with Jesse McCallister, her brother's best friend and who is almost 10 years older than her. Jesse has always protected her and been kind to her but has always seen her as a little girl, but when Quinn turns 18 one kiss can change everything. Now she is looking to fulfill her dreams as a writer and leave her hometown for a new adventure in California. Although she hopes that Jesse will see her with different eyes, she knows he has other goals and is living his dreams in motocross... a breakup will wreak havoc on him and now he decides to give up that life, returning to his hometown. Quinn does not understand what is happening but plans to take advantage of the opportunity that the universe is offering her.

"When We Were Reckless" is an emotional and thoughtful story. Quinn has been overprotected all her life, with two kidney transplants she has led a life full of care and medical appointments, but she feels has not enjoyed her youth. Jesse at 27 is finishing his career in motocross, frustrated and bitter he returns to his hometown. Quinn hopes to find old Jesse, her knight in golden armor, instead she finds an emotionally broken man and whose words can hurt the feelings of his little sunshine. Far from being intimidated, Quinn decides to turn the page, however her attraction for Jesse, his insistence on her forgiveness and a deal will give them the best summer of their lives.

I really enjoyed it, I loved Quinn's personality, she is sweet, dreamy and at the same time daring. Despite the difficulties she has had, has remained optimistic and persistent. Quinn represents Jesse's greatest support in his darkest moments. As for him, I admit that at times I did not fully empathize with him but in the end I liked him because he reacted and tried hard to win Quinn's heart. What can you find in "When we were Reckless"?

-Age gap
-Bad boy x good girl
-Brother’s best friend
-Forbidden Romance
-Steamy Romance

Is it a surprise to y'all that Emery Rose killed it again?
Sure isn't to me.

Let me just start off by saying that all McCallister boys have been *chef's kiss* PERFECT thus far.
And I deeply feel that from the three we've gotten to know thus far, Jesse is by far the best. I liked Jude, loved Brody, but Jesse....holy crap Jesse McCallister, can I please be Jesse's girl?

Quinn Cavanaugh has had a crush on Jesse McCallister, her brother's best friend, ever since she was little. And he's always treated her as the little sister he never had. But now that Quinn is 18 and Jesse is back in town after retiring from the motocross sport, Quinn is more than ready to make him hers. The only downside is that Jesse isn't really looking for love after being deeply hurt in the past, and he still is her brother's best friend who is supposed to look after her and care for her as a brother would.

I loved this whole book, from the plot to the characters to the overall chemistry between the characters, it was so well written. But what I truly appreciated was the fact that the story begins when Quinn is of legal age. Thank you so much for that Emery! I have seen too many age-gap books where the heroine is still underage when the whole romance begins, and then it isn't even acknowledged. So happy this wasn't the case in this book.

I loved the relationship Jesse and Quinn shared from the beginning. They had such an amazing bond, and to see that flourish into something more was so wonderful to experience. From the intense stares to the secret kisses to all the delicious sexy moments they shared together, I enjoyed them all; even the little jealous sprouts they would have here and there.

This book has just the right amount of emotion and angst that kept me on my toes all throughout the story. It was intense, but also lighthearted, emotional but a lot of fun as well.

I would highly recommend this book. More so if you've read the previous books in this series. It just gets better and better with each book that comes out.

I received an ARC (Advanced Reader Copy) of this book, and am leaving this review voluntarily.

p.s. I would love for Emery to bring out a series for Quinn's brothers. I can just imagine how delightful their stories would be.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Emery Rose has been known to indulge in good red wine, strong coffee, and a healthy dose of sarcasm. When she’s not working on her latest project, you can find her binge-watching Netflix, trotting the globe in search of sunshine, or immersed in a good book. A former New Yorker, she currently resides in London with her two beautiful daughters.

Summary

Quinn Cavanaugh has always, and always will be, in love with Jesse. Jesse, the hero in every single one of her stories. Jesse, who, for her, hung the moon and the stars. But for years, he’s only ever seen her as his best friends’ little sister, the little sister he never had.
Having grown bolder and more confident, Quinn decides that she’s done waiting, done hiding. This is the last summer she has left to make Jesse realize that she’s not just his friends’ little sister anymore. To make him see her as something more. One last summer, before she leaves for college.
But the Jesse that returned home, doesn’t appear to be the same Jesse she once knew. Jesse McCallister, motocross legend, has returned home with a bruised and battered heart. Jaded and broken, he no longer believes in love. But the more he tries to steer Quinn away from him, the harder it gets. Because Quinn is truly, no longer just his best friends’ little sister.
“Unrequited love. Was there anything more painful?”

Review

I’ve been told, many a times, to read an Emery Rose book. So, here I am. And if there’s one thing I can say, it’s that I was not disappointed. I loved it, every single piece of this story. It was beautifully written, the writing was amazing and it flowed well, the characters were terrific, and it got me panting for more (and for more of Jesse *now just imagine me awkwardly winking*)

It was everything I wanted in a brother’s best friend book, absolutely everything. The secrecy. The stolen glances that were never really secretive. It was all so, so good. A+ storyline, no complaints. Oh and of course, not to forget the reason I still breathe, sports romance and a sweet, sweet age gap. It was a forbidden book times two, and it was deliciously good.

I don’t think I’ve ever read a motocross romance book, but this was spectacular (and I’m waiting for more, just FYI). It was unlike any other ‘sports romance’, and this was such an interesting sport to read about. Honestly, I’m scared to even drive a scooter, but if Jesse offered me a ride on the back of his death machines? Plan my funeral, baby, because I’m taking him up on that offer.

Now the age gap was great in this. She’s 18, while he’s 27. It’s a – uh – an interesting age gap, to say the least. But it wasn’t disturbing, so it’s all good. If he’d been 30-something, I might’ve actually started a riot or something. With age gaps, you either get the sweetness like you find in this book, the innocence. They don’t give off red-flag vibes, is what I’m trying to say. But with other age gap romances, it’s like you’re reading a horror book. But then again, age gaps aren’t for everyone. I do prefer the youngest of the couple to be 21 or over, but we can’t always have that, otherwise it wouldn’t really be forbidden (I think?)

Quinn was a little crazy, let’s be honest. But what did we expect? It’s an unrequited love story, so someone had to be a little cray-cray. But the good thing, is that she wasn’t red-flag crazy, just a girl head-over-heels in love with someone she considers her best friend. I was really proud of her when she somewhat got over the knight-in-shining-armor dream she saw Jesse as, and I loved that she was actually maturing. She was a literal sweetheart, and she deserves all the best, in my humble opinion.

Jesse, I had mixed feelings about in the beginning. He was supposedly the best person out there, I mean sweet baby Quinn had been pining for him for years, so I assume he’s the best of the best. So when he threw their brief past and her ‘obsession with him’ in her face to hurt her, I was so so ready to jump into that fictional world and defend sweet Quinn. But he got better, and better, and better as the chapters went on. I really started to like him, and soon I wet swoo-oo-ooning for him. Am I surprised that I fell for another grumpy fictional character? Absolutely not, it’s to be expected of me.

Oh and the spice, ho-boy. I am a ho-girl for those chapters. Watch me re-read them a bunch of times.

In short, I thought this was an amazing book, and would highly recommend it.

Age-gap and Brother's Best-Friend romance all rolled into one steamy little package; Quinn and Jesse's story was everything I love and more. Having already read Jude and Brody's books, I knew instantly that I was going to fall in love with Jesse McAllister, but I wasn't prepared to fall for that dirty-talking, Motocross racer as hard as I did.
Emery Rose is a fantastic author and i can't wait to read more of her stories in the future.

There's nothing I love more than a best friend's little sister, age gap romance combined with some torture and all the angst between our characters, and that is something that Emery pulls off FLAWLESSLY. I meant to only read a few chapters before bed once this hit my kindle, and before I knew it, I was at the end sobbing like a baby. Whoops. Lol. But I loved every moment, ever stolen glance, every touch, every confession between Jesse and his Sunshine Girl. In a word, this is my favorite book in this series yet!

Our lovely heroine, Quinn, has been in love with Jesse all of her life, but he refuses to see the woman she's become. He's also mean, jaded, cruel and callous, and so unlike the man who has always been her protector. She has one last summer before college, and she's determined to finally start living. Even if that means breaking free of her own restraints and acts so boldly to finally get what she wants. Even if doing so means breaking her own heart in the process when things are all said and done.

I'll admit, Jesse crawled into my heart from the very first page, even when he was being an uber a-hole to the one girl who deserved it the least. I loved how fascinated he was with the take charge version of her, and wants so badly to have her, but because of his tragic career ending and a very toxic love he just escaped from, his heart is locked up so tight he barely feels it anymore. But Quinn brings him back to life, brings him back to loving his passion again (he's a famous motocross racer) and teaches him that the things that ended was for the best, and to pick up the pieces and move on, and look forward to the future because every day is a gift.

Their relationship is just so freaking beautiful, and I loved how it transformed into a kid-like crush/fantasy, to a full blown soulmate connection. I love that nobody seees Jesse as well as Quinn does: from the golden boy who had everything at his fingertips, to the angry man who lashes out and everyone close to him because of all he thought he lost. She shows up for him in every single way and teaches him again that you can count on a person, with your trust and your heart, and just how beautiful and fragile that bravery really is.

I know I've said it and said it, but this book is just so amazing. Everything about the storyline and this couple is just perfection, so much so that I didn't want this book to ever end. I just love them so much!

Emery is such a talented writer, and this book right here just shows why she's one of my favorite authors, ever. There is beauty in every single page, and I just cannot recommend her and this book enough. Do yourselves a favor and one click this amazing book right now!

When We Were Reckless, third book in the Lost Stars series comes to tell the story of Jesse and Quinn, a story that has a bit of forbidden romance, childhood love and age difference. A romance with just the right dose of anguish, drama and romance.

Their relationship is full of pushes and pulls, which made things a little tiring and made me angry at Jesse at various times. But their scenes together and seeing their relationship turn into love was sweet to see. Quinn despite her age, and the overprotection of her family goes after what she wants and doesn't stop following her dreams. I liked that about her.

We also see their families in this book and I really enjoyed seeing their dynamics with their families, reviewing the characters from previous books was also interesting. I hope Quinn's brothers and best friend get a story in the near future.

I liked this book, and even though it's not my favorite it brings a sexy, romantic story that's fun to read until the end.
➖➖➖

When We Were Reckless tells the story of taking a risk by putting your heart on the line when it comes to love, no matter who it is and where you may find it. All whilst taking you on a journey of rediscovering oneself by leaving the past behind and moving forward in this deeply intense and heartfelt tale.

At eighteen years old Quinn Cavanaugh aka ‘Sunshine Girl’ is the youngest of her family with 3 older brothers Holden, Declan and Mason, who happens to be Jesse’s best friend. For as long as she can remember she has had a crush on Jesse, which continued to grow the older she got. But she knows that’s all it will ever be a crush, since there is an Age Gap and he refuses to see her other than being his best friend’s little sister. Despite sharing a special kiss right?

Jesse James McCallister aka ‘Racer Boy’ had it all with being on top, until it all came crashing down. Resulting in losing everything, only to leave him with a broken heart and being a shell of his former self. With being back at home, he tries to move on in building his life again. But what he doesn’t expect along the way is to reconnect with his best friend’s little sister Quinn, at least not in the way he should be since it’s wrong. But how can something so wrong feel so right?

Considering the life Quinn had already endured, with being a newly high school graduate she knows and plans to fulfil her dreams. Despite the wishes of her overprotective family.
Given that the story is told through dual POVs, Emery tells us through Quinn’s perspective about her past and her present, giving us insight into just the type of person she is and what she is currently dealing with. Though my heart did break at times for Quinn in certain moments, I had to give her props for staying strong and not going down without a fight by constantly fighting for what she wanted. Proving she was a tough and fierce warrior.

Having lost everything, Jesse couldn’t help but be brokenhearted over it all. Leading him to suffer throughout with trying to battle the heartache over his past that he cannot seem to forget about. Through his perspective, we learn just how much pain he has truly endured and still continues to agonise over. It honestly broke my heart to see him go through his lows by himself, with not feeling like he could share the pain and agony he continued to be affected by. All of which caused him from trying to fully move on with his life.

Although Quinn and Jesse may have been in different points of their lives from each other when it came to what they were doing and dealing with, considering their Age Gap. You could still see that there was still a bond between them despite that all. Especially since the bond they had shared when Quinn was younger was able to be revived again. Despite the amount of time that had past between them, they were able to reconnect again as if it was just yesterday. It was through this connection they shared that Quinn and Jesse were able to be who they truly were and share a side to them as well as other things that they weren’t able to share with anyone else. Taking their friendship to a whole other level, in which a growth was being showcased in one another. Which had them pulling even more closer than before, building a chemistry that was budding into so much more than expected.
At the same time, considering the Age Gap and the closeness that was forming between the two, time and time again it resulted in Jesse’s helplessness of constantly going back and forth and pushing and pulling with Quinn, knowing what was happening wasn’t right.

Once again Emery Rose demonstrated that she poured her heart and soul into telling Quinn and Jesse’s story, with When We Were Reckless. Honestly the way Emery wrote the story, it seemed so natural with having been beautifully written by capturing our hearts from the get go. Delivering a narrative that had a continuous fluidity to flowing of every word, sentence and paragraph stated.
From the very beginning and right up to the very end, you could feel every single emotion and feeling pouring off the pages like a waterfall. Never ending with the constant overflow that steered this emotionally charged narrative that followed Quinn and Jesse.
Throughout the story, we were led on a DEEPLY INTENSE journey that was filled to the bone with HEARTFELT, WARM, SWEET, PASSIONATE and ROMANTIC moments, whilst enduring PAINFUL, MELANCHOLIC, SADDENING and DISTRESSING moments at the same time in following Quinn and Jesse and seeing where their life takes them. Considering the twists and turns they faced and had to navigate all through, while trying to overcome the hurdles that caused blockages to their paths. At the same time it was through those hurdles that they were also brought closer together leading to an electrifying chemistry that resulted to their CALIENTE, SEXY, SIZZLING, FIERY yet PASSIONATE, HEARTFELT, AMOROUS and TENDER Steamy moments. Showcasing their emotions and feelings for one another, despite not saying the words or even admitting to it.

All in all, Emery did an incredible job with writing When We Were Reckless. Which is why I truly loved and adored reading Jesse and Quinn’s story.
However with that said, Jude and Lila’s story still remains my favourite #SorryNotSorry
I HIGHLY recommend checking this book out. Especially if you have read the previous books in the Lost Stars series! Emery Rose will do you no wrong in reading her books!

So I saw this book posted in a reader group I’m in yesterday and saw it was an age gap, best friends sister book I was immediately hooked. Then I saw the cover and I was gone. So I went in without even reading the blurb.

Turns out it’s book 3 in the series BUT you can read it as it’s an interconnected standalone. That being said I’m going back to the start and reading book 1 and 2 because I’ve fallen in love with these characters and I need more.

When we were Reckless broke my heart. Quinn has been in love with her brothers best friend Jesse all her life. The summer before college she finally gets up the courage to make him a deal after he’s sworn off love after having his heart broken by an ex.

Emery Rose bought all of the feelings, angst and heartbreak with this book and has found herself a forever reader.

P.S I NEED Ridge’s book ASAP

This is Jesse and Quinn’s story.

Age gap- she’s 18. He’s 27.

Unrequited love.

Dirty talking Jp male.

Angsty with OW involment

Quinn has always loved Jesse, her brother’s best friend, but to Jesse she’s off limits. Naïve and innocent.

Quinn is not the innocent 18 years old he thinks she is. She wants Jesse and she soon lets him know just how much she wants him.

Emery Rose gives us a collision course story and what happens when that collision course hits its target.

Been a long time since I was so invested in a series. There’s more to come with other characters getting their story.

Looking forward to book 4. Not sure who it will be about but I’ll be reading it.
