Cover by Stephen Segovia. RAMPAGE! Feelings are hard. ORPHAN-MAKER doesn't like feeling that he's not NANNY's little boy anymore…and what more sensible, mature action is there to take than to storm the fortress of their enemies THE RIGHT in a bid to get back in her good graces? Before the day is through, there will be some dire consequences
E, solo contro l'intera Right, ci riesce.
E senza Sinistro.
More of a 3.5. I even considered 4 stars, because this was a refreshing issue of Hellions. But, nothing too earth-shattering happened, so I'll leave it as a rounded 3.5 because it was just enjoyable as a more standard sort of X-Men comic.
Blessedly, Sinister did not appear and had no lines. I have not been able to tolerate "funny" Sinister for the last several years. This meant I didn't feel the need to attack the writers today.
There is a mission to rescue Nanny's robotic baby she picked up several issues ago. Most of the Hellions participate. There are powers and fight scenes. Thankfully, the attempts at "jokes" were less ham-handed and cringe than usual.
Hellions delivered! It is extremely satisfying to see one character go on a rampage since the majority of X titles are overwritten fart sniffing sessions. I liked everything in this issue, from the throat punching, head stabbing, neck snapping, right down to the overzealous villain named Susan interrupting her teammates.
Marvel Exec: hey, I've got a great idea! M.E #2: what's that? M.E #1: cancel Hellions!! M.E #2: urrr.... Look I'm not saying you're wrong, we make stupid fucking decisions ALL the time... But why Hellions? M.E #1: because it's good! I mean it's told a (mostly) cohesive story since the start, it's had actual character development, things actually happen! I mean if we aren't careful fans will expect good stories from all our titles!! We can't have that! We keep mailing it in with shit like Excalibur, new mutants and x-force every month, why the hell would we make our life difficult by regularly producing good content when shit sells? M.E #2: that.... That is genius!! Let's mail it and still make money I love it... Maybe we should think about canning the new X-Men and Wolverine too, I mean they are pretty successful. M.E #2: oh don't worry about that, we've got a hitlist...... *Ominous music*
Fun, but it doesn't quite have the humor and charm of the series before this. Still, the series needed to end, and I think this is a nice run up to that, adding in a little more grimness. The dynamics felt off, partly because this focused on so much on Orphan Maker, but I didn't mind that much.
Minus one star because I didn't like it as much as most of this run - which I enjoyed so much in general.
So glad this issue didn't go the way I expected! But why would it? It's the Hellions after all. This is way more interesting that the Nimrod storyline. The baby robot preprogrammed by its Smiley parents, Nanny doing what she does, Orphan Maker being crazy. Empath though...I wonder which way he will go. Emma our his teammates.
