Delightfully Bright and Concise

No espionage plots and murdering intrigues, just seduction. A very proper theme for a sweet romance. The heroine is not a headstrong idiot nor the hero a brusque fool. Just typical flawed humans who eventually figure out that all they want is each other.

This one was just okay for me. I had actually started it awhile ago and put it down. I was looking through my books yesterday and it looked familiar, I had forgotten that I had already started it. I got into it a lot easier the second time around. I thought the main characters were just okay, neither really won me over. Nicholas is a rake and his cousin asks him to come distract Kit from their grandmother. His cousin, the Duke, thinks Kit is just hanging around for money and has ulterior motives. They are attracted to each other right away (surprise, surprise), and Nicholas enjoys the idea of pretending to seduce her to see what her true character is. He blackmails her into agreeing to be his mistress. Personally, I would have liked if she refused, or at least put up a better fight before giving in. Luckily, Nicholas has no intention of actually following through with the threat, but again I would have liked if Kit had refused. Anyway, there are some misunderstandings, plotting misses, and mean dukes to keep the story entertaining. It had a tad more innuendo than I like, but would still be considered clean.

Content: Pretty clean. Innuendo and some wondering hands.

The first third of the book was good, then it went from downhill to would-be-cheesy-in-a-soap-opera.
