Sarah has a very sick mother who has been bed ridden. Since her family is fairly large, a maut comes to work for them to care for the children and help do chores. Sarah has a difficult time with the hired girl Sadie and is tired of how she treats her. This book is mainly about what the two of them endure. It was a good book. Definitely aimed towards middle grade readers, but I liked it as an adult.
