Deception: The Great Covid Cover-Up
Senator Rand Paul was on to Anthony Fauci from the start. Wielding previously unimaginable power, Fauci misled the country about the origins of the Covid pandemic and shut down scientific dissent.

The Covid virus was likely the product of gain-of-function research at the Wuhan lab in China—research funded in part by the U.S. government. Taxpayer dollars for that research were deceptively funneled to Wuhan without the required regulatory review. Fauci and his allies ruthlessly attacked everyone—including highly qualified scientists—who threatened to reveal the truth about the pandemic.

The Global Virome Project's goal is to "collect the estimated 500,000 viruses that are capable of infecting humans and bring them back to a laboratory near you," in order to preemptively develop vaccines for future pandemics. What could possibly go wrong? The research performed at the Wuhan lab was allowed to evade review by the Potential Pandemic Pathogen Care and Oversight Committee by none other than Anthony Fauci himself. There needs to be a full investigation of all the government agencies, including the NIH and CDC. The fact that one man in America has the power to fund dangerous research in China, with no accountability at all is insane.
Senator Rand Paul has been attempting to get answers from Fauci and others regarding the U.S. involvement in gain-of-function research in concert with the communist Chinese since 2020. We have been overtly lied to for over three years, but the lying has been going on for decades. Anthony Fauci is a criminal and should be in prison. 1,800 scientists, many of whom work for the government health agencies, received $193 million in royalties, and the NIH was paid $400 million by Moderna. The people at the FDA approving the controversial COVID-19 mRNA vaccines, are making money off of their votes for approval. Why is this allowed in our government? We need a dramatic overhaul of our government agencies.

"Gain of function" was a phrase I was completely unaware until I read Senator Paul's outstanding book. Even after reading the definition on Google, I was still somewhat confused. But, then, I am not a scientist.
As soon as I turned to the front flap and read Senator Paul's poem to his wife, I knew I was going to enjoy his book. I had no idea the Senator was such a gifted poet. Just the last stanza for tease:
"The time to wait and sit
To move the bishop without
Concern that the queen may be in danger
Or that the pawns might rebel
There will be time

I actually finished this in a week but did not update Goodreads. This book was awesome. I love the Paul’s. His dad, much more but I digress. After reading the first chapter, I am convinced Fauci should be in prison a long with a few other people.
How we as a country have not followed through is beyond me. Thankfully, DeSantis has empaneled a grand jury to deal with Fauci.
The book starts off very brainy and can be a bit redundant but stick with it. You well take away a better understanding of the virus and more importantly how it was allowed to take place. Later in the book, he covers the attempt to skirt the 1st amendment rights of every person in the world by a bunch of pimple faced Marxists even to those that have been scientist for decades and have authored books and studies.
He talks about the fallacy of the vaccine and the sudden change of heart on natural immunity. He covers medications that were blocked from every online platform while it showed then and today that it saved lives.
This has to end and people need to be held accountable. If not, this will happen again.

On the merits, this book deserves a 4-star rating, but I am adding a star because it is a courageous, pioneering work and currently one of the only ones on the subject. If later books do a better job, I may trim my rating back to 4-stars.
First, the good points. Paul does a thorough job of the research and documentation, which include 86 pages of endnotes. He is a practicing medical doctor himself and does a good job of trying to make the technical and scientific issues understandable to the ordinary reader. I found it fairly quick reading, considering the technical subject matter.
Paul is notably fair towards most of the people and points of view involved, even when he does not agree with them. He generally goes out of his way to avoid ascribing evil intentions to those involved, even those who were “funding research that, in all likelihood, led to a lab leak that killed millions”.
The exception to this is Anthony Fauci, who he calls “the one person ultimately responsible for the pandemic”. Paul is obviously fed up with his lies, deception and imperious bureaucratic obstructionism. He goes after him like Captain Ahab and the white whale.
The other main villains (not counting the media) are Peter Daszak of the EcoHealth Alliance (who served as a conduit for “over $100 million dollars” of taxpayer money in order to evade restrictions and oversight of risky gain-of-function research), Dr. Shi Zhengli of the Wuhan Institute of Virology (the "bat woman”, who conducted the research), and Dr. Ralph Baric of UNC (who aided the research, including supplying Shi with the rare humanized lab mice he had developed). However, Paul is more evenhanded with them.
Paul builds a convincing case that Covid most likely originated in the Wuhan lab. The extensive evidence he presents includes the fact that “‘patient zero’ was a scientist who worked at the Wuhan Institute of Virology and contracted COVID-19 months before the public became aware of the pandemic. [He] was Dr. Shi’s lead investigator and hands-on experimenter creating new viruses not found in nature”. Two of his assistants were also among the very first infected.
Paul provides evidence that many key players were privately alarmed that the virus was engineered in a lab, but publicly proclaimed otherwise under pressure from Fauci, who soon rewarded the coverup chorus with large grants. Paul goes on to provide detailed criticism of counterproductive lockdowns, useless mask theater, and flawed vaccine recommendations. He includes some thoughtful ideas to reduce the likelihood of future pandemics through regulation of risky virus collection schemes and gain of function research.
Now, the bad points. Far too much of the book is about Rand Paul and not the subject matter. Many, many pages consist of long verbatim transcripts of Paul’s speeches, articles, and largely ineffective questioning of witnesses in Congress. Even more is consumed by political pontificating and personal anecdotes that are largely irrelevant. There is WAY too much self-promotion and too much repetition. At least 100 pages of this should have been cut or condensed.
The book covers the protracted lockdowns and the resulting economic damage in detail, as what was promoted as “two weeks to bend the curve” got extended month after month. Yet surprisingly, Paul makes no mention of the strong motivation of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and the Democratic Party to keep the US locked down to the greatest extent possible through the November 2020 elections.
President Trump had stood up to the CCP like no politician before him and they would certainly have liked to see him replaced with absolutely anyone else. Even better if it was one of the many politicians they had already compromised with bribery and blackmail. The US economy was in great shape before the lockdowns, which is usually good for incumbents, and the extended lockdowns destroyed it. Compounding this, the lockdowns served as the pretext for instituting all kinds of dubious voting procedures that had never been permitted before because they were ripe for fraud. Paul is completely silent about all of this.
One minor curiosity is that, although Dr. Shi is one of the central characters of the book, she is inexplicably missing from the 12-page index that seems to include everyone else.
On the whole, I highly recommend reading this book, especially for anyone who has some skepticism about the media narrative that Covid arose naturally and that Fauci is a saint. Paul’s book shows that it is far more likely that Covid was engineered in a Wuhan lab and that Fauci and his collaborators are closer to Dr. Mengele than Mother Theresa.

There was nothing particularly surprising in this book, but I’m glad I listened to it. Dr. Fauci is just as guilty as you’d imagine, and Rand Paul brings the proof. History will one day judge Fauci very harshly for his involvement (along with all others who were involved) in the Covid scamdemic, and his complicity in the loss of millions of lives. Hopefully the regular people of the world have learned a lesson from this pandemic, and they won’t go along with our want-to-be-dictators in the future. Only time will tell! God help us 🙏

A lot of this information isn't new to the people who paid attention to the degree of obsession I hope no one has to put themselves through ever again. For everyone else, the information will spark anger toward Fauci or Paul, depending on which side you choose to stand with (fun fact: one side is indeed wrong).

To be completely honest, I usually do not list any books that are political or make someone upset. (I know… I’m a chicken.) However, I had questions and concerns in 2020 and now even more is coming out about where COVID came from, the world wide response to it, and the cover up.
I believe Rand Paul did a great job at showing the facts about the virus, the holes in Fallici’s response to the virus and the gain of function research.
I gave this book 4 stars, it has great information, but seemed a little jumbled, at times.

Excellent book! Rand Paul brings the receipt on all the Covid lies. Fauci is the biggest crook and liar there is. He lied saying he didn’t use US tax payers money to fund his gain of function experiments in China. He lied about lock downs and mask efficacy. He received royalties from Pfizer. And Moderna paid the NIH 400 million dollars in profits sharing for vaccines. Everything was about power grabbing and making the Democrats rich. It’s such a a disgrace that they use the American people for a science experiment!

This book is amazing. I continue to be impressed with Rand Paul's works. Like his book on socialism this one is well documented and impressive. It points out at the very least, how our government and medical establishment are not transparent. In a time when 6 million people died of a virus you would think that the #1 job of the NIH and NAID and Fauci would be to find the origin and prevent any such thing again. This book points out that (only thru FOIA requests) that they did the opposite and hid their funding and work in Wuhan lab.
It looks very much like due to Fauci and NIH/NAID that they killed 6 million people.
Many proofs are in this book and some on the left of the political spectrum join Paul in his conclusion that this was a lab virus purposely modified to attack humans. He 1st debunks the "proximal origin" theory, this is the one that it came from animals most likely bats and then to humans through a wet market. Some key evidence against this theory is right at the surface for anyone who wants to see it. 1st the cleavage or furin between s1 and s2 sites in the virus point to direct manipulation of virus in a lab. This has not been shown in any natural origins in SARS like viruses. 2nd the covid-19 virus does not infect bats well. This is odd for a virus that supposedly originated in bats. 2nd all other close examples of COVID viruses, like MERS and SARS1 needed multiple jumps between animal species to mutate to finally after months and months to get to humans. When it did get to humans it was not very toxic to humans until after many other mutations.
3rd mutations cannot be found in China in any animals or trace of COVID-19 after testing of 80,000 animals. NONE!!! This is on its face almost impossible. Also in other COVID like outbreaks the folks who handle the live animals that it came from show antibodies in their blood. None, zero of these people have been found anywhere after extensive testing of thousands of blood samples in the immediate area of wet market. Also the bats are 1500 kilometers away from Wuhan so a long way from 1st outbreaks.
Also Wuhan lab has the world largest COVID gathering of viruses in the world and just a coincidence that COVID-19 comes from same city as lab???
The #1 issue for me still remains the lack of transparency from all involved, China who should have come clean ASAP. The NIH/NAID and the rest of our government. The WHO etc. etc.
Chapter 5 is also noteworthy as it tells of Major Joseph Murphy who was a whistle blower on the DEFUSE project. This project called for experiments to produce something just like COVID-19. He forwarded the information to the department of defense and the inspector general. The DEFUSE documents were being hidden at the time. DARPA rejected this proposal as too close to the ban on gain of function work by our government. Peter Daszak clamed that the DEFUSE project was not gain of function and was picked up by NIH/NAID.
Chapter 8 is also noteworthy for its discussion of large scale mask studies like the DANMASK study that proved beyond any shadow of doubt that masks are not effective against the much smaller virus particles.

Sheesh. Dr. Anthony Fauci is a king of deception. I appreciate Rand Paul’s dogged efforts to expose a multi-agency governmental deception. Absolutely no one wants to admit that our government and the Chinese foolishly pursued a path that led to the creation and mistaken leak of COVID.
All the theater that took place by restrictions, lockdowns, masks, quarantines and closing of schools and businesses is a sad chapter that set back real science and pursuit if truth.
Paul’s book would have been better at half the length. He seems consumed with reporting on his own efforts to confront Fauci, almost a literary self-back pat. The book is unnecessarily repetitive.

It took me a long time to read this one because I became so angry every time it picked it up. Angry that my government lied to us. This book covers the truth about lab leaks, gain of function testing, our governments contributions to creating this pandemic. It also touches on the truth about masking, vaccinations, and lock downs. I am saddened that the media allowed itself to be swayed from honest reporting and that the government was able to silence, and to some extent is still silencing the science, data and information that gives the facts about Covid 19 and measures to prevent illness.

The author, Senator Rand Paul has made an excellent attempt to tell US the story of how our Federal Government has really worked and his attempt to get to the Truth about the Covid-19 Cover-up... primarily by Anthony Fauci and others in our Deep State doing Gain-of-Function research with US and China virology labs and during a moratorium on GoF period of time (I don't know why that wouldn't be Forever). It's a great story and I hope All of POTUS Donald J Trump 47 Medical team and he Has read it and actively investigates and prosecutes Crimes by our government by our Deep State acting Against US.

Rand Paul is a dynamic force for good in these dark times. In this book, he documents how the evil members of big government brought on the disaster of the Covid pandemic. We have been robbed of so much more than just treasure, it was with the full knowledge of those who represent themselves as our protectors. They lied to us, imprisoned us, censored us, and shat upon us in countless ways. Every person, not just in the United States, but the whole world needs to know the facts laid out in this book and realize how we were fooled.

This book was originally published in 2023. When I told a friend about reading it he said "I'm not interested in reading about COVID - it is old history." I believe that the US (and California) made some colossal errors in responding to this "novel" virus. At the start of the pandemic in late 2019/early 2020. I began to read some books on the issue. Lawrence Wright (author of the Looming Tower) called Plague Year - which was a mostly pretty good discussion of the development of the crisis (but oddly he did not discuss the Great Barrington Declaration). I read WUHAN DIARY which is a terrifying story of how a totalitarian country locked the country down while trying to obfuscate its role in creating the pandemic. Finally I read a couple of books about the role of public health practitioners. I am as I said in one chapter of my own book - Almost dogmatically skeptical of the role of experts. so when I began this book I started with four questions in mind. #1 -What is the origin of the virus. I had a friend who is a former Public Health Dean argue that it is inappropriate to dig into that - he cited the 1918 Pandemic as an example. But after reading this book I am convinced that the disease originated in the Wuhan Virology Lab. Paul goes to great lengths explaining how aggressively Fauci and his deputies tried to debunk that. It was pure bureaucratic hubris. #2 - I wondered why both the political and health establishment were so intent on ignoring contrary evidence on all of their "solutions". From the attempts to cancel discussions like Great Barrington and whether masks were efficacious (they weren't) to repeating the mantel "the science is settled" to first closing and then keeping the schools closed - the efforts to shut down discussions were deleterious to the public health and to managing the pandemic. One must also question whether when evidence began to be found about problems with certain groups of the population not being well served by the vaccines why they tried to quash the research. I'm no vaccine denier but there is plenty of evidence that especially the MRNA vaccines caused problems and the authorities ignored the data. #3 - I wanted to understand the motives of funding "gain of function" research. Paul makes a strong case that in spite of Fauci's denials that GOF was heavily funded in labs which were not up to the task. He also questions whether that kind of research is necessary. #4 - Finally I wondered what the effects of royalties were in promoting the vaccines.
Paul's book answers those four questions and others although at times he can be a bit repetitious on some points. It is well worth the read both to answer those questions but also to give each of us some ideas about the appropriate limits of governmental power in an emergency.

Deception is an apt title as Senator Paul meticulously describes the cover up by Fauci and his accomplices at the NIH and other government agencies of the causes of the COVID virus pandemic. With 85 pages of notes, there is a preponderance of substantiating data that Fauci had been funding unauthorized gain of function research at the Wuhan Institute of Virology.
Senator Paul does a wonderful job of describing complex genetic manipulation in a way that is comprehensible for the layman. The evidence he presents throughout the book makes it clear that Fauci not only knew about the gain of function research, but also used his power of the purse to cover up the Wuhan Institute of Virology leak. The subsequent pandemic was further exacerbated by the fact that Fauci and NIH personnel received $400M in royalty payments from vaccine manufacturer Moderna. Hence, Fauci's insistence on a one solution approach - everyone take the vaccine - and the obfuscation of other protocols like Ivermectin.
What Fauci did is unconscionable and caused the death of millions of people worldwide. The lockdowns were totally ineffective and had widespread ramifications to children's education, business losses and a total mistrust of government so-called "experts". My hope is someday people like Fauci will be held accountable.

In November of 2019, when I read about a breakout of a new SARS type virus, I was reading a book on gene splicing using CasCrspr. I posted on FB my observation that this new virus was from the Wuhan lab and man-made. I received a 30-day FB jail sentence. This book presents the real science as well as the fake science Fauci passed on.

If you want a thorough examination of who knew what when and what the real facts are coming out of NIH, WHO, and other government agencies regarding COVID, this is a book to read. There may not be any other like it. Paul is a respected, educated, and tenured member of the US Senate (representing KY and the son of Ron Paul). He has documented interviews and inquiries, media quotes, and information from inside the colossal 'government machine.' I have 109 highlights from this book and took so long to read it because it is dense, I had to be in the right mood, I looked up a few things on the side while reading, and I wanted to read it carefully and not just breeze through it.
This is not meant to be light reading or even usual political reading. This is serious stuff for serious readers of nonfiction. Paul is not poetic or concerned with pretty prose here--you've got to pay attention and the vast majority of people will find it dry and boring.
There is also a feeling I had thought he whole thing (since I am reading it a couple of years after publication) that he spends A LOT of time arguing that COVID came from the Wuhan lab--I feel that is pretty much accepted as fact now. I know that hasn't always been the case. I do feel there was a little bit of dwelling and more than a little gloating but I also feel Paul deserved to gloat about it since he stood his ground and didn't give up on the truth while Fauci, NIH, etc. were attempting to gas light everybody into believing it came from nature. Paul's ego and need to restate this over and over again made for several extra pages (extra chapters, even?).
If you're infuriated by my review, then you probably don't want to read the book :) This is certainly political and if you're not interested in the meandering defense of a Republican Senator, then this book is not for you but you already knew that.

Much of this book is largely biographical, following Paul's experience attempting to get to the truth during the lockdowns and afterward. As such, there's a certain degree of bias to be expected. Although the actual information is largely straightforward, there is more of an attitude than I felt was necessary toward certain people on the "other side." (And I'm not referring to Fauci himself, who in my opinion deserves far more than just attitude.)
I found it rather repetitive, personally, although with the exception of a few details here and there, none of this was new to me; the repetition may feel less heavy-handed if this is new information you're trying to follow along with.
The one element I thought was a significant flaw was that his medical background shows in his favorable bias toward the vaccine (although he opposes the push to vaccinate those who already should be expected to have natural immunity). In my opinion, this is a real problem because it appears to blind him to the possibility that the vaccine was the goal all along rather than simply a rushed but well-intended response after the fact. If we're digging into origins and cover-ups, that's an important possibility to keep on the table.
All in all, though, I thought it was a well-written book that's helpful, with some expected author bias but nothing so crazy as to make it unreadable or untrustworthy. (There are 85 pages of endnotes here, too. It's well-supported with concrete evidence.)

My wife and I attended an interview and book signing with Dr. Paul at the Reagan Library back in 2023. This is a long, sometimes grueling look at covid--what our government knew/and knows about it, and individuals attempts to cover up US. govt. funding of gain-of-function research, despite federal laws against the same. Dr. Fauci certainly appears to have knowingly lied to Congress and the American people frequently. This book is extremely well researched, and includes all the dialogues between Drs. Paul and Fauci in Congress. At the books publishing, the NIH and the State Department were still refusing to supply members of Congress with documents regarding lab funding, despite both govt. agencies operations being overseen by Congress. I think that the fact that patient O and the next two covid patients all being employees of the Wuhan lab certainly proves that the virus was the result of a lab leak. Patient O, Ben Hu is a gain-of-function researcher and associate of Dr. Shi Zhengli at the Wuhan Institute. Dr. Zhengli has been referred to as the 'bat lady' for her research into bat viruses. Also Dr. Paul points out that all attempts to replicate the virus through animal exchanges has failed with ANY animal. If you're interested in the virus and/or the govt. subterfuge I highly recommend this book.

If you haven't seen your friends and family have major issues after the "Vid19" injections, you are one of a lucky few. I have many friends and family with everything from brain cancer-died, multiple other cancers at the same time, turbo cancers, auto immune issues, tinnitus, heart palpitations, early on-set dementia, swollen and discolored limbs etc....Time to pull the heads out of the proverbial sands and read this book. Unspeakable horrors done from someone who now sounds like he's going to get a "blanket" pardon. Well, if you didn't do anything wrong, why do you need a pardon? Why were there so many Congressional hearings about the ill effects of these jabs from Dr's and Real Scientists from all over the world? Fauci is still laughing and mocking the people; claims he never said people had to take the vaccination, or that they had to wear masks, and to trust "YOU" who was supposedly "The Science." Ridiculous on all levels. Highly suggest starting with this book, as there are many from our current Administration and government who choose to censor those well known medical professionals for speaking out against the government's propaganda machine; AKA Critical Thinking. Ronald Reagan’s famous quote, “The nine most terrifying words in the English language are: ‘I’m from the government, and I’m here to help,’”
