A lonely stretch of highway in the dead of night. You're tired after hours on the road. Suddenly you see someone ahead of you in the headlights and slam on the brakes--but no one's there. The hallucination of a weary driver? Perhaps not. Author Dan Asfar has researched dozens of accounts of paranormal phenomena along North America's highways and bi-ways. Get ready for your next journey by reading Haunted Highways.
Lights on the road, ghost hitchhikers, Highway 666, Chalk Man, sinister bridges, blood on the road. The author collects all kinds of spooky stories that happened on highways, byways and roads primarily in the USA but also some in Britain. Really liked the black and white photos and illustrations. Based on true accounts these stories make you think twice before traveling old lonesome highways. Very atmospheric out in the streets horror! Really recommended!
Some books are just genuinely fun to read and Haunted Highways is certainly among them. Dan Asfar writes in a simple but fresh and engaging manner, giving little vignettes into why different stretches of highway have a paranormal or sinister reputation. I especially enjoyed the section about U.S. 666 as I've driven it, both before and after it was renamed U.S. 491 back in 2003. While I have no personal aversion to that number (as I see it as being just another number), I can say the New Mexico portion had a creepy feeling even in broad daylight. Of course, the Four Corners area has a certain reputation, as many can attest. It's why some of us truly love it.
If you're planning a road trip or simply want to read about some of the strange and scary places that surround us, check out this book. It might not be great lit but it's an enjoyable read.
This book is really good book, so far... I have only be reading it for 5 days. Its a book about highways that are supposedly haunted, this bookgrabs you in because it tells you about how the person dies and why the ghost haunts that highway. Thats why i like it.
