Elin Hilderbrand lives on Nantucket with her husband and their three young children. She grew up in Collegeville, Pennsylvania, and traveled extensively before settling on Nantucket, which has been the setting for her five previous novels. Hilderbrand is a graduate of Johns Hopkins University and the graduate fiction workshop at the University of Iowa.

I knew what I was getting into with reading a Hilderbrand-the beach read queen. And while the genre invites escapism and implausibility, I found it a bit too out of reach for me. Did I read the first book in a day? Yes. Because I like Doritos (re: The Housemaid review).

Things I did not like:
1. Bart storyline. I know I seem terribly unpatriotic, but I’m friends with some veterans and his lack of therapy and lack of PTSD was EH trying too hard to avoid the trauma of war.

2. Superrrrrr quick character resolutions. People would be awful and then 30 pages later everything would be awesome (re: Norah Vale).

3. Ava’s love life. Come on…get a spine.

4. EH’s plug of her own book. Ick. Ick.

This series is the only Christmas/holiday themed book or series I have liked! Reread of Winter Street! I think this will be a book that I read every fall or winter season.
One thing though - Ava, a grown fucking woman, calling her parents mommy and daddy is so weird. The way she talks to her parents gave me the ick
