Turkish Delight is an engaging and heartwarming story about friendship, love, and personal growth, set against the backdrop of sun-soaked girls holiday in Turkey. It's definitely more than chick-lit.
As the friends navigate their holiday, the plot delves into the strengthening of their bonds and the uncovering of secrets and insecurities through honest conversations and gentle humour. These elements add depth and intrigue, addressing sensitive issues and keeping me engaged as the story unfolds.
The group of four friends were very different women but complimented each other well. Their love and strong bonds really shine through. I particularly found June and Maya endearing, with their banter and quirky personalities and humour, I would love to be their friends! They added a lively and entertaining energy to the story.
One of the unique aspects of the book is its portrayal of holidays in the sun from a perspective of middle-aged Danish women which I found interesting and lovely to read about women closer to my age.
Some parts of the story, such as the Turkish waiter and Gio's behavior with Cecelia, seemed a bit unrealistic to me. However, I appreciated how Cecelia's personality made it understandable why she struggled to be assertive in those situations. 👇🏼👇🏼👇🏼 (UPDATE: I have since learned from the author, Gio's part sadly is based on real life events, this demonstrates how she can write about tough and real situations).
Being a huge foodie and a lover of exploring all things local, I would have enjoyed more details about the sights and cuisine of Turkey, which could have added extra depth and interest to the story.
Overall I enjoyed this debut novel, perfect for taking along and enjoying it on your own holiday in the sun. The friendships felt very real and the individual struggles were dealt with in a sympathetic manner.

What an absolutely delightful summer read, that will fill your heart and have you craving that summer fun holiday with your own friends.
After being friends for over 20 years, the girls embark on a holiday full of sun and surprises in Turkey together.
It was great to get to know the characters individually to start with, as they prepare to set off for the island. This set the scene for each of them and seeing that peek at their everyday lives gave us a bit of insight into their personalities before getting together. I also liked that this was based on the more mature character - only in their 40's, but it made a change to focus on characters more my own age.
Once away, the girls had the best time together. I loved seeing how the group dynamics worked and it was easy to see how and why they'd been friends for so long.
The writing was full of fun and banter and I couldn't help be transported into the middle of things with them. I couldn't help wishing they were my friends too! The setting was beautiful and I had some clear and vivid images in my head as I was reading.
The week evolved with each of the friends revealing some hidden stories - having this secluded time together really allowed them to open up to each other.
This was such an enjoyable read and I flew through it whilst sitting in my own little sun trap in the garden - would definitely make a great companion for those summer trips away or even to cheer up a drizzly weekend at home.
This was my first read by this author and I really hope there will be more to come in the future - I look forward to our next adventure.
As you get older friendships change and it can be harder to get together as life always seems to get in the way. And that’s exactly the case for Maya, June, Charlotte and Cecilia; 4 women in their 40’s who’ve decided to have a week away in Turkey together to reconnect. These four women all had aspects I could relate to such as low body confidence, job stress, family life/illness etc. Like most friend groups they all have different personalities that just seem to bounce off each other. All with their own secrets that the come to share throughout their holiday.
This isn’t my normal genre but the cover really caught my eye and I had to sign up for it, I love the mix of colours. The story is written from multiple POV’s which is something I really enjoy in a book. If you’re looking for a quick easy read to start off your summer then this is the book for you.
Perfect light reading for when you just want to chill out and relax.
This was an ideal book for enjoying at my own pace when things were just a little bit crazy everywhere else. The characters are well written and the story is enjoyable. There are some topics covered which are sensitive but these are broached with a sense of respect as well as the humour which you would expect from a girls holiday.
The cover instantly caught my eye and although not planning another read I was pulled in by the image and promise of the title. Was it worth it? Most definitely!!!
If you are looking for something that’s got fun, friendship and a bit of action then Turkish Delight is the summer read for you.
Where to start! A fantastic holiday/summer read. 4 FMC are in their 40’s heading to the coastal turkish town of Cennet for some much needed time together. Each have their own story and part in the friendship circle. Ultimately the love and support is phenomenal.
We follow their week long holiday on beautiful story about aging, friendships, truthfulness and learning to love yourself. Naturally these ladies must encounter others on their holiday and the people they meet have a profound effect on their holiday. Whether this is getting to grips with the locals, the men over there or the other holiday makers too.
I found the story fairly easy to follow when I got myself to grips with the characters and their traits. It flowed really well and was a no strings attached kind of read.
Well, that was a fun chick lit, and a quick easy read as a result
I always think having multiple POVs is a risky move as there is always that one character we do not like as much as the others (or even dislike altogether). I am happy to say that I enjoyed reading about all 4 ladies. I particularly enjoyed June and Cecilia's characters and their backstories.
Now go the story itself, I would say that if you want an action-packed read, this is not the book. But if you want an entertaining holiday read, full of little moments and jokes between friends, this is it. I wouldn't mind following them around on their next trip 😁
Makes me want to book my next holiday under the sun, is all I am saying ☀️
I’m going on holiday next week and I’m a little bit sad that I didn’t save this lovely book to read on a sunbed on the beach, I mean, just look at the cover!
This is the story of four friends of 20 years plus, as they take a week away in Turkey. Each of them with their own back story, responsibilities, hang ups, secrets and needs.
The women’s personalities shine through as we meet them individually at the start on the book, and as a group, as the story progresses.
The setting is fabulous and I loved the description of the women’s first view of Cennet. ‘I could stare for the rest of my life at that view and still not get tired of it’ Who hasn’t thought when they get to their hotel? I’m hoping I will on my next holiday! 😊
This was a quick and easy read, which would be perfect for reading on the beach, or by the pool in the sunshine. Although it's not a typical chick lit book so it's not all fun and laughter.
I found i could relate to all of the women, who are only a few years older than me I can especially relate to Maya's musings on how friendships move on by your 40s, as we are at different life stages, with varying wants and needs.
It reminded me of holidays abroad, trying to locate transfer buses and chatting to other holiday makers. Some scenes were particularly reminiscent of my holidays in Turkey.
All in all it was a fun read which reminded me of the importance of female friendships.
I really loved the friendship of these 4 ladies and the diversity in their backgrounds and issues surrounding them. There were plenty of laugh out loud moments, and I also teared up a little at times. I would have liked a little more exploration around the Turkish culture, such as when they mentioned the call to prayers, I think the setting is integral to the development of these ladies. I felt the ending was a little rushed, though I understand there to be a sequel coming which may flesh things out more, but I just felt there should have been more exploration around the events on the final night in Turkey. The story is an easy to read, summer vibing, beachy kind of read.
This was a real fun and emotional story of a group of friends who need to reconnect. We have a close group of friends who each have their own personal struggles which they are hiding from the rest of the group and this is a feel good story which helps them deal with these issues - it also brings them closer together. I love the writing style of this and how the story easily flows which helps you keep wanting to turn the pages to see what they get up to next. I need the next book of this group of ladies adventures and want to see what antics they get up to.
Oh what a fabulous 👌 read this was, can't wait for turkish delight 2 to come out later this year. Sooner the better. Funny and very whitty loved every bit of it.n
