Kendall provides a broad sweep of cultural history to demonstrate the growth and development of America's modern dance. She chooses one or two examples of dance artists of the era she describes to represent the trends she evokes. Her information is deeply and profoundly researched. To my mind she is sometimes carried away by her ideas and extrapolates beyond the information particularly in her description of Martha Graham's technique.

Good insight into the start of modern dance in America. It's pretty fascinating to see how bold these dance-artists had to be in their day. It's sparked my interest even more in the topic.
