something i love about Adam’s books is that they curl up inside you and are the only thing you think about but it then rips your heart out in the most beautiful way possible. i love Adam, he’s such a clever artist and these books are books i will NEVER shut up about. if you asked me if you should read this book, my biased opinion would say absolutely, it’s completely worth it. but logically i think you should try it out and see if you like it, i understand it isn’t everyone’s type of book but its definitely worth trying to read.
**SPOILERS FROM HERE ON OUT:**
i LOVED the parallels in these books and how the the main characters in tbdate could have met earlier because of the context in tftdate . i think that is ABSOLUTELY GENUS HELLO? AND HOW THESE BOOKS FEEL SO FRESH AND DIFFERENT FROM EACHOTHER? THEY DONT FEEL LIKE THE SAME THING OVER AND OVER AGAIN OMG? and the QUOTES FROM THIS BOOK. and how gracefully they both died? and how it tore me apart limb from limb, absolutely loved it
my favorite quotes from they both die at the end: “...stories can make someone immortal as long as someone else is willing to listen.”
“Maybe it's better to have gotten it right and been happy for one day instead of living a lifetime of wrongs.“
“I've spent years living safely to secure a longer life, and look where that's gotten me. I'm at the finish line but I never ran the race.”
“I kiss the guy who brought me to life on the day we’re going to die.”
“I cannot tell you how you will survive without me. I cannot tell you how to mourn me. I cannot convince you to not feel guilty if you forget the anniversary of my death, or if you realize days or weeks or months have gone by without thinking about me. I just want you to live.”
my favorite quotes from the first to die at the end:
“Here's the truth no one ever wants to admit when death is on the horizon, or when you're deep in that grief—as long as you keep existing, you'll keep breathing, and if you're breathing, one day you'll start living again.”
“It’s not fair how someone can do everything right and still be hurt because someone else does one thing wrong.”
“I write short stories because I am one. I wish I was a novel. Breaths away from midnight, I know my final chapter is close. I look up at Valentino, wondering what life could’ve offered if I had more pages in me.”
“Life doesn't care how young you are. It forces you to grow up anyway.”
These are officially my new favorite young adult LGBTQ books. The first one is definitely my favorite, but both tell a beautifully hearty breaking story about love formed in 24 hours. This book made me reconsider how I live my life, and I now strive to live a fulfilling life.
The author had no right to make these books so sad. The characters made me fall in love with them and I could not put these books down. I refused to stop following them around the city and when the ending came, I actually cried. My heart burned for these boys.
"I don't know how much time we have left but I don't want to miss it."
This story mainly follows the POV of Mateo and Rufus, two young men who got the call. The call everyone dreads. The call to say you are going to die today and "On behalf of Death-Cast, we are sorry to lose you. Live this day to the fullest". Will the impending doom of death, end your life before it is finished, or encourage you to get out and tick off that bucket list?
Gosh, this book was very thought provoking! The idea that death can happen in the most unimaginable ways and there's no way of stopping it. There were so many quotes that really set the tone that life is too short!! "It's not death that a man should fear, but he should fear never beginning to live."
I loved the friendship the two boys formed, even if it was purely because they shared the same Death Day. They were so sweet! Both characters were exactly what each other needed.
The extra snippets of other character's POV were such a fantastic addition to the storyline! I found it so clever how all of the different POV still linked to the Mateo and Rufus and how the events of these additional characters impacted their 24 hour journey!
The ending was devastating! I was heartbroken. I really don't know what I was expecting the ending to be. I definitely read this book in complete denial.
Also the actual ending was left so open! I both liked and hated how much it was left to interpretation. If you've read this one, I'd love to know if we had the same idea!

This book kept me interested from the front to back cover, so overall, this book was very enjoyable.
I read this book, They Both Die at the End, by Adam Silvera, because of my school's summer reading assignment, and it ended up being very interesting. I enjoyed this book so much that I would consider reading other books from the author. Silvera used a very solemn, yet hopeful mood to create the relationship between Mateo and Rufus. On their end day, even though they were strangers, they built a trust and bond like no other. This book illustrates a central theme of acceptance; both Mateo and Rufus knew what the future held for them. Something important in the text was the climax, Mateo dying. This allowed Rufus to seek closure from Mateo's father in the hospital.
I believe all high school students should read this book at least once because it contains a great plot and storyline, highlighting reflection on one's life.
Does leave a weird perspective that here they choose who's end days is when and force these choices on people where as we have so much freedom to choice who we love who we want to, be around and who we are as people.
Having their ends forced on them, mateo and rufus had no choice but to be something they weren't and do the best they could with so little time 😩 no time to find those they love and want to be around but luckily they are good for each other. Find those in life that you can be around without feeling the need to do or be anything you're not. Be kind it takes nothing from you 🤷♂️

This has been my work book for the past week between phone calls and its kept me hooked the entire time, it had a few unsuspecting twists which I really enjoyed and felt like I was on a full journey with the characters ! The little nods that all the characters stories intertwined was great when you look back at them. Can't wait to read the other books in the series
This book was honestly such an amazing read. Even though you go into it knowing exactly how it’s going to end, it still breaks your heart once you reach that final page. The symbolism of colour within pictures posted is beautiful, and the relationship between Mateo and Rufus was so heartwarming. I really enjoyed this book and would recommend it to others!
My eyes are still wet…However, we were warned with the title... It's crazy how through a day in their life, the author succeeded in his job of making us cry. This shows that even if death approaches, life always manages to give us some last moments of happiness with the one we love...
