I first read this book having just returned to the US after spending a year in Paris, working "au pair", as did Kerry, the main character in "Spend It Foolishly". I laughed out loud then, and laughed out loud again, recently, when I reread the book. The descriptions of her long days working at an insurance company to save up money to go to France, the attitudes of both the Americans and the French towards each other in the 1970's, the conditions of life working for a French family, etc. were spot on. I loved this book.
