This best-selling progressive 46 page encyclopedia of rock/funk patterns for all tempos, utilizes a new contemporary teaching style for independence, rudiments, styles, and more.
This is the perfect book for developing bass drum independence. Has great exercises to help you separate your hands and feet while drumming which is absolutely vital. Start slow and within a few minutes you'll have a great groove going.
I liked it, BUT the notation is non-standard. I like how it looks as if it was put together using a typewriter. Probably it was in like 1930 and never got updated--ever!
I'm primarily a guitarist learning drums during quarantine to up my song-writing and recording abilities, and with just a couple basic drum lessons from my band-mate, I made constant progress through the exercises in this book. The first section is mostly bass drum independence, and the second section takes you through snare drum independence. Almost all of the rhythms prescribed in the book are fun and "musical".
I'm technically only half-way done with the book, but I've already tried some of the simpler exercises in the latter half of the book and would recommend this as a rock-solid practice guide.
Comprised of pages of 2-4 measures of very basic backbeats, it will be very dull. You will learn very little from this book. However, it's good if you want to take from and use to make an original sound.
This book has me doing things with the bass drum I couldn't do when I was a kid--because I didn't have this book then! A challenge out of the gate, it asks for some sweat, but you will be rewarded.
