I picked this up purely because my mum has a penchant for a couple of the New Covent Garden soups, but having had a flick through I think I may just keep it for myself! Because honestly - the recipes are bloody gorgeous! High praise from someone who a) is not the biggest fan of soup and b) is a vegetarian and not really catered for in your average cookbook. I think it's telling that I and the other reviewer are both vegetarians (I think, Ashleigh?). There are meat recipes in this book, so if you're a die-hard meat eater, don't let me put you off - but there are plenty of great (and not boring for once!) recipes that don't include meat and equally great recipes that could be adapted to be meat-free.

The book itself is presented really well. I liked the cover and the slightly homemade vibe to it. The doodlings, the handwritten recipes (apparently all written by "Claire" with 70+ black pens) and the little stories/anecdotes that accompany many of the recipes are charming. Love it.

Just to whet your tastebuds a little bit, here are a few of the recipes included:

- Potato, Leek and Lavender Soup
- Parsnip and Orange Soup
- Roasted Garlic Vichyssoise
- Spicy Sweet Potato and Butternut Soup
- Barbados Black Bean Cakes with Mango Sauce
- Beetroot and Feta Couscous
- South American Cheese Corn Bread
- Carrot and Parmesan Scones
- Pesto Ciabatta Croutons
- Pumpkin and Rocket Gnocchi

... and many many more besides. Yum!

A great little book with some lovely ideas. I am on a bit of a soup kick at the moment so this has certainly come in handy. I would definitely be interested in buying the other covent garden books too :) One for everyone's cookery shelf!
