The book is about a boy who is always in conflict with his many siblings. The day before they go on a vacation for Christmas break he gets in trouble and has to sleep in the attic, meanwhile there is a cop checking up on them to see what they are doing. The day of the vacation everybody wakes up late and forgets that the little boy (Kevin)is still in the attic. When the family reaches their destination they realize that they left him behind. Kevin is now home alone and has to deal with the cop and his partner in crime who are really crooks and try's preventing them from breaking into his house.
