Despite being nearly as old as me and referring often to “The World Wide Web,” this book gave me all the tools to get started

It may not be nice to fool Mother Nature.

But no one said you could not second-guess. Well after two warmer-than-usual winters I decided not to take any chances with my newly raised garden. I purchased "Perennials for Dummies." Chapter four is all about winter-proof flowerbeds. I had more in mind herbs. They were covered also. According to the book, snow is an insulator and necessary to protect from constant air temperature fluctuations. Now as I am watching the snow (through the window) I am snickering as I hear the plants saying, "I'll be back"

Perennials For Dummies by Marcia Tatroe (IDG Books 1997)(635.932). This is the familiar yellow and black cover from the series “...For Dummies” which means that someone has written a too shallow and mostly irrelevant book that only the most rank beginner should ever bother picking up. I know because I read it. My rating: 6/10, finished 2004.

Was a helpful introduction for someone who didn't know anything (me!)
