Men of Honor #3

Resisting Temptation: A Men of Honor Special Edition Cover

Rate this book
You will not break me for I am unbreakable. He lived through a week of torture in order to save her. She lives with an undeniable guilt for the scars he bears. Cade Walker’s little sister died in his arms when he was only fifteen-years-old, and the moment she took her last breath was the same moment his world went dark, turning him into a cold, hard shell of a man. Until he walked into an open field years later to hear the most incredible voice; the soft, angelic melody breathing life back into his dead, unfeeling heart.
Faith Williams stood for the very thing he refused to believe in, yet his feelings for her were undeniable. Her voice lured him in, but it was her kind soul that anchored his broken one. The two forged an unbreakable bond, but one irrevocable moment destroyed it all, leaving them both scarred inside and out.
Now two years later, Faith returns to Cade’s life unexpectedly, and neither of them can deny the fire that still burns between them, along with the pain, loss, and regret. Fate will test their love, and in order to save it, they must face the past that continues to haunt them. *** Resisting Temptation is book three in the Men of Honor series. Each book in this series can be read as a standalone, but for the best reading experience, I recommend reading in order. If you love steamy, emotional Romantic Suspense stories with protective alpha males and sweet heroines who will stop at nothing to find their happily-ever-after, then this series is for you.

K.C. Lynn is a small town girl living in Western Canada. She grew up in a family of four children—two sisters and a brother. Her mother was the lady who baked homemade goods for everyone on the street and her father was a respected man who worked in the RCMP. He’s since retired and now works for the criminal justice system. This being one of the things that inspires K.C. to write romantic suspense about the trials and triumphs of our heroes.

K.C. married her high school sweetheart and they started a big family of their own—two adorable girls and a set of handsome twin boys. They still reside in the same small town but K.C.’s heart has always longed for the south, where everyone says ‘y’all’ and eats biscuits and gravy for breakfast.

It was her love for romance books that gave K.C. the courage to sit down and write her own novel. It was then a beautiful world opened up and she found what she was meant to do…write.

When K.C.’s not spending time with her beautiful family she can be found in her writing cave, living in the fabulous minds of her characters and their stories.

Cade and Faith met in Iraq in horrible circumstances. Faith left there broken, but believing God gave her a second chance. Cade left there even more broken than he was before. Two years later they meet again, but although Faith tried to move on, Cade’s ghosts are still very much alive. She is a religious girl, who believes in the word of God. He is a traumatized man who saw his life destroyed by a psychotic guy that claimed being following “God’s Will”. Their views on life are different, but this time Faith is determined to show him that there’s a middle ground for them. When life unexpectedly turns again and Cade once more has to step in, can he this time realize that some demons are just waiting for a chance to be exorcized?

"He's the best fucked-up guy I've ever know."

When I went into this book, I was not expecting for it to touch me in the way that it did. THIS BOOK was amazing, and I fell a little bit in love with the author for writing a story that had plenty of depth and emotion that will stay with me for a long time. The prologue alone was enough to prove to me that this book would be a winner.

Cade Walker is a Navy SEAL who is on a mission in Afghanistan when he stumbles across a fellow American, in the form of a beautiful woman called Faith who is working out there as a missionary. He spots her playing guitar and singing to a local boy called Aadil, who is risking his life by just being there.

Faith is the daughter of a minister, her father is a good man, but Cade would never in a million years see him that way, so it's a good job that they will be only spending a few days together...

That is until something unthinkable happens, their lives are changed forever and Cade and his 2 best friends, and brothers in war, are forced to act.

From the heartbreaking prologue to the heart-warming epilogue, everything in between was well paced. The character development was spot on and I was never once bored. As soon as one plot-line was wrapped up, there was another to take it's place. There was a lot going on, but not once did I feel that it was OTT. It was just right, for me.

I have so much love for FAITH, who was smart, sassy, innocent but not naive, and selfless. She was what I look for in a perfect heroine, I do not have a bad word to say about her, whatsoever.

Cade was a broken hero, with a HUGE heart and a dirty mouth. How much more perfect can you get?

Then there were the side characters, especially Christopher and his little sister Ruthie. Two wonderful children, one who was a boy trying to be a man to protect his sister, and a little girl with a speech impediment and no friends, who just wanted to be loved. I adored them. So much.

The steam was off the charts, the emotion was real and the depth of the story was superb, there were so many layers to this story.

I have not read the first two in this series, but I can tell you now that I will definitely be going back to read the first 2 at some stage because Jaxson and Sawyer were two characters I'd love to read about.

I LOVED THIS BOOK and I will be adding KC Lynn to my auto read list.

Resisting Temptation is a standalone romance, told in dual POV.

Things I didn't like:

1) The God pushing i.e. the fact that any and all good shown in this book was either because of God or occurred despite the absence of God.
2) The cutesy-speak from that monster masquerading as an adorable 6 year old.
3) God sent a ribbon to her grave? Gag me while I vomit uncontrollably. Sweet almighty spaghetti monster, that was schmaltzy.
4) The fact that I was supposed to believe a girl that was gang-raped and brutalised got over it in under 2 years simply because she went to church and got a boyfriend who could give good Os. Please. Don't tackle the subject unless you're going to tackle it.

This series was never going to win the Booker prize, but at least it was enjoyably crazy until it tried to take on a serious subject and decided that the answer was God, God and lots more of God.

THIS was literally me during most of this book! I can't begin to tell you HOW MUCH I LOVED IT ! Every thing that comes from this author is precious ! The writing, the stories, EVERY character in these books hold a SPECIAL place in my heart! Ever since Fighting temptation my hearth speeds faster when I hear that there will be more books about amlost everyone we met in the books! The story thought me that everything happens for a reason, how it supposed to be, how is meant to be !!!

So, YES the alpha males and the badass heroines in these books are one of the best I EVER read about!
This book made me feel every emotion and THAT prooved how perfect and beautiful this book was!!!

NOW LET'S TALK ABOUT MY FAVE PEOPLE:

Faith

I LOVEEEEEEE her so muchhhhhhhhhhh! This girl is my idol! She is strong, unwavering, determined, amazing, sweet, HONEST and soooo many other things! She is willing to help everyone with everything she can! She is caring and little bit impulsive. Not caring what anybody things, when she wants something she fights for it! My hear litterally broke for her and the things she have been through. One of the BEST heroines (along withe the others from this series!)! Her feelings were honest to God , her faith unbreakable and she has the biggest heart! She was so inncent and sweet and yet bold ! She loved Cade soooooooooo much, even I felt it!!!

"There's a blaze of light
In every word
It doesn't matter which you heard
The holy or the broken Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah"

Cade

This broken beautiful man! My heart ache for both of them but his story, his fears, his memories, his stuggles.. man, that was hard ! He thought he is a monster, a damaged person beyond repair.. he was WRONG ! I cryed my eyes out so many times because of this guy, but I laugh too. His broody mood, his hard exterior is only the on the surface even though he hide his soft side reallllly hard, Faith was the one who helped him during his hardest times, NEVER gave up on him or on them ! His protectiveness over Faith and the kids was so honest and beautiful and I fell inlove with him because of that! He needed them because they made him stonger, bolder.. with them he didn't felt like the monster he thinks he is! They heald him! And besides his Alpha attitude, which I LOVEEEEE unconditionally, he was sooooooo sexyyyy! OMG !!! His filthy, dirty mouth and his sinfull body (these nipple rings, thoughhhh!!!) .. he was EVERYTHING !

one moreeee:

Can I have his babies ???? And Jaxson's and Sawyer's and Cooper's pretty pleaseeeeeee ?!?!

No, seriously !!!

Pssssttttttttt...

Okaaaaay, okaaay back to the topic!

K.C Lynn once again prooved how incredible she is! Her heroines NOT ONCE annoyed me, her heroes NOT ONCE crossed the line from SEXY posessive to creppy (which happens a lot, btw!).. no! They were KICKASS, AMAZING, FUNNY, PROTECTIVE, STRONG AND HONORABLE !!!

And let's not forget about the sweetest girl, with the biggest and the softest heart! She melts mine so many times! She was soooo funny and too adorable!
Our dearest Ruthie ... a.k.a Cade's best friend ;) !!!

At first she was shy towards Cade but she saw like many others that he is one big badass softie (well he was.. but only with Faith and Ruthie heheeee!) and then these two were inseparable . He was hers Big guy with similar beane and it couldn't be more perfect!

I believe you can all understand and see my love towards these people who felt like real to me! They ripped my heart out, but they made me laugh sooooooo hard that my stomach hurted from it! I will read everything by K.C Lynn because the stories, the meaning and the people she write about feel real to me! She makes you want to be there with these people and hang with them, cry with them and love them! I truly believe that these stories will stay with me always because when a book gets you like this it's hard to forget everything you've been through during reading it!

P.S JAXSON YOU WILL ALWAYS BE MY FIRST NAVY SEAL LOVE, DON'T YA WORRY!!!

Re-read:

This made me cry in a wine bar.

Bumping to 4 stars because the whole series is fun. Heroes are cocky, arrogant jerks, but they are fun and besotted cocky arrogant jerks. The H in this one is actually a little more tightly wound but a good guy.

The heroine is great. She's a preacher's daughter and her concept of faith is love and all encompassing without being a prissy nightmare. I loved Faith and loved. her and Cade together. His relationship with Ruth Jean (yeah she hates her name too) is just so stinkin' cute.

First Review:
Big time trigger issues

Tropey and more than a little saccharine at times, I really enjoyed it. The heroine was refreshing and fun despite her intense travails, and the hero was nice, hunky and besotted which made up for all the push/pull he instigated with the heroine.

What really made the story was the addition of two children, a teen and a six year old. The teen boy is amusingly sarcastic and angsty, and the little girl talks like Tweety bird and is the plottiest plot moppet ever but she’s still an asset to the story. Her crush on the hero is adorable and she and the h both break down his walls/

Close to a 4 star.

This is the 3rd book in the Men of Honor series by K.C. Lynn. I was completely smitten by Cade in book one and was anxious for his story from that day on. I'd like to give a few warnings because I think they are important. This book deals with difficult topics and subjects that may upset certain people. If you followed this series then you already know what happened to Cade, Jaxxon and Sawyer while they were in Iraq. But also the terror that was perpetrated against the sweet little sister of Cade was also delved into. This book will go more into depth about these scenarios. Do not go into this lightly.

The story of Cade and Faith was the sweetest most profound love story that I've come across in a long long time had a very passionate start.

But it also had a terrifying and soul destroying middle.
Cade came out of his sisters death with a strong hatred and animosity towards God and anything or anyone who stands in representation of God. So while he is serving in Iraq he comes across a beautiful red head singing her heart out and quickly she captures his attention and even though she stands for everything he hates, Faith captures him totally. One splendid and erotic night is shared and their souls are connected beyond belief.

Unfortunately this is where their nightmare begins and they are ripped apart for 2 years. But when love is meant to be ..things will fall into place and these two are suddenly forced back into each others lives. Their chemistry was as strong as ever and their love never went away. Fate is strong and nothing was going to keep Fate from putting these two back together. What I adored about these two were that a beautiful and adorable friendship grew and the way they were together went a long way to help cover some emotional scars for them both.

Faith and Cade were a force of nature. Like a magnetic pull that they couldn't fight. I was swept away by the romance and never wanted to leave. I won't leave out that Cade was another award winning dirty talker but honestly that didn't come close to how purely emotional these two were together.

Faith was a girl with a heart so big that at times I just cried for her. I wanted Cade to just hold her and comfort her so badly. Cade is the most protective guy though and it doesn't take long for him to step up and be everything that she deserves and he craves to be for her. When he finally let's his walls down  he is the most tender man I've ever read. Faith craves Cade like her body needs air ..it was so tender, passionate and amazing to read these two together.

Ms. Lynn added some interesting characters in this installment that took Cade and Faith on a journey of healing and redemption. I don't want to give too much of this plot line away because there are so many important parts to this journey that was written in the most perfect way. To heal and to strengthen and to build this couple a foundation to take them to a fantastic conclusion. K. C. writes sensational, passionate and thought provoking plots. There is not enough words to convey the splendid perfection of this amazing story.

I saw two broken souls become one and at the same time saw blessings rained down on them.

The religious aspect was dealt with grace and respect and I am proud to have found this author and proud to call her a favorite. This is by far the best book she's written so far and I can only imagine where she'll go from here.

"We are the only two people left on this earth. I know it will always be like this because he is my one. The one who gave me my first kiss, and gave my body the only pleasure it’s ever known, and I will fight to make him my last. He is my dark angel and the man I love with my whole heart."-Faith

description

The Men of Honor series is one of the best I have read this year. I thoroughly enjoyed the characters, the plot lines, the relationships, and the dynamics of this group of friends. I have been waiting to read Cade's story. Now that it is over, I am still thinking about it.

Cade is a Navy Seal and he is working overseas when he meets Faith. Faith is playing her guitar in a field. She was a vision of purity and beauty to him.

description

Cade and Faith form a friendship. She sings for him. She wants to heal him. Faith sees the hurt in Cade's eyes. Because Cade suffered a great loss early in his life (grab the tissues), Cade has renounced God and anything to do with religion. Faith is very religious and the daughter of a pastor. These two couldn't be more poorly matched and yet they just seem to fit! After one forgettable night together, the unthinkable happens. Faith is captured and Cade must risk everything to get her back!

description

Cade and his Navy Seals brother don't hesitate to do what it takes to get her back. The torture these boys were forced to endure was unthinkable. The way that Faith was violated and broken will break your heart. (Grab that second box of tissues now). The bonds these brothers formed through this experience is what drives them to find a brighter future.

description

Yet for Cade, he doesn't think he deserves brighter. He insists on remaining in the dark. Even though Faith wants to be with him, he pushes her away.

description

Years pass....

Cade has his brothers (and their significant others) and Faith has her family and God keeping her grounded. In an amazing twist of fate Faith ends up moving a few blocks from Cade. They bump into each other and all of the emotions come flooding back.

Cade is still so damaged by his past. He still feels unworthy of her love. What is so amazing about Faith is that she doesn't give up. She takes things slow and steady.

"I look back at him in surprise. His expression gives nothing away so I have no idea just what it means . I’m hoping it means there may be something for us yet, but if not, and it still means getting to have him in our lives, then I’ll take it. I’ll take him any way I can get him."-Faith

As Faith continues to spend time with Cade, he realizes that he cannot live with out her. He is willing to put aside his fears and make things right with her. It take some convincing on her part and yet, once Cade realizes he can't live with out her...he finally takes her!

“I don’t deserve you, not any part of you, but I can’t stay away. I need to be near you, all the time, Red, or I feel like I can’t breathe.”-Cade

Overall, Resisting Temptation was a fantastic read. I became engrossed in the story because of the heart of these characters. Not only did Cade have to overcome his fears with Faith but he had to overcome his fear of God and loss! This was a very healing read and yet it was passionate, sexy, funny, sweet, and had some good old fashioned ass kicking! I highly recommend this book. I will definitely be re-reading the series again AND I am looking forward to another book in the series coming out soon!

This is my favorite of the series so far.
“Music speaks what cannot be expressed. It soothes the mind and gives it rest. It heals the heart and makes it whole. It flows from heaven to heal the soul.”
Cade meets Faith while she’s on a church mission overseas and he’s deployed. He hears her playing guitar and singing and is drawn to the sound. They spend a week sharing stories and getting to know each other.

We know what happened to Faith from book one. There are no graphic details in this one, we just know she was kidnapped, beaten and raped by multiple men. Faith’s belief in God helps to her survive and heal.

Cade and Faith are polar opposites. Cade grew up in a broken and neglectful home, Faith grew up surrounded by love. Cade hates organized religion with everything in his soul, Faith is the daughter of a preacher and is incredibly devout.

There were moments that were overly cute and little “awe-shucks” with Ruthie calling Cade 'Big Guy' all the time. Also, not sure how realistic it was that Faith could Especially since she doesn’t have a job.

I understand everyone heals at their own speed, but Faith recovering from such an ordeal in only two years seemed really far fetched.

It also bothered me that the author used Faith as a plot mover with

Overall, I loved the love and the cheesy Hallmark-channel emotions.

Resisting Temptation is slightly better than the previous book. The writing is still sloppy and need better editing. The story is more darker and takes a serious tone. The lenght can be shorter a bit.

Resisting Temptation is a story of Faith and Cade. Both suffer horrific past and tried to move on. Slowly a romantic feeling develop between them. The slow burn between them is cute. Some part not necessary but I enjoy it.

Overall an OK book to start me weekend.

5 Beanie Wearing Dark Angel Stars

A-Freaking-Mazing. Like shout it from the mountain top good. Chocolate Chip Mint good. Call your BF, tweet about it, smoke signals, whatever gets you there....tell someone about this book.

So buckle up for Cade and Faith.

Warning: This is the third book in the Men of Honor Series. Do not read it out of order. The characters build and the stories overlap and intertwine. You could read it as a stand alone, but you will be wishing you had the backstory on the other characters.

Warning Part Two: This book contains some hard scenes. Kidnap, torture, abuse. It is well done, but hard to read. It is not gratuitous. Faith and Cade deserve to have you know the whole story.

Faith is a kind hearted 22 year old who has volunteered to go to Iraq at the end of the war to do humanitarian and mission work. She is deeply faithful and trusting.

Cade is a sexy, quiet, distrustful Navy SEAL. He is distrustful for a reason. He has emotional scars from his childhood. He meets Faith as he is about to leave Iraq. She is a breath of clean, untainted air. A breath the likes of which he has not taken for 10 years.

I try not to let his cold expression and very large size intimidate me, which is pretty much impossible, so I fake my confidence. I also notice he smells pretty darn good too. The mean, delicious smelling jerk.

Cade and Faith are bonded through sweet moments and horrid events. Events that will forever shape their views on each and themselves. Cade feels guilt, remorse, and unworthy. He let Faith down all those years ago. He knows she could never forgive him for what happened since he can't forgive himself.

Don't paint me in a good light because of my career choice. There's nothing good about me.

When Cade and Faith reconnect, there is a RECONNECTION. They feel it. They want it. They fight it.

She lives in a world of light and I was long ago swallowed by darkness.

There is much to overcome. Not only the unthinkable situation they escaped, but also the fundamental differences in their core beliefs. And they aren't likely to waiver on those beliefs. This one takes a turn that you will not see coming and I won't tell you about. But let me say....you will wove the two twists that enter the story. Can Faith and Cade make it through the barriers of not only their pasts but of their present? The kidnappings, abuse, beanie-wearing distractions, bullies, sullen teens, dance invitations, forgotten birthdays, and crowded couch sleeping.

I love this book so much. I thought it was the best of the three. Maybe because you get the wrap up of the other two. And because of things I can't tell you because I dont' do spoilers. I can't wait for the next book. I am lobbying hard for Christopher's story. You will be too. By Tweet, by FB, by voice message, by snail mail, by bribery....just get me the next story, I'm begging my favorite mauve-wearing Canadian....please?!?!?

Ti strazia ma ti fa bene all'anima.

I don't know why I wanted so long to read this book. I have read every other book KC Lynn has written. Maybe I thought this one would be too tough? It does have some dark subject matter (kidnapping, rape, torture, murder, child abuse) but if anyone can write a dark book and still leave you with hope, its KC Lynn.
Lynn is now writing a series about the kids. I hope Ruthie gets a book!

My review:

Cade Walker suffers from a tragic past and he has lost his faith. Raised in a home with a drug addicted mother that always had a new boyfriend, the only person he cared about was his younger sister, Mia. When she dies tragically at the hands of one of his mother's flavors of the week, he is devastated and blames himself for not getting to Mia quicker. It doesn't help his faith in God or anything religious that this vile human being was a part of a religious cult. The whole thing made me sick.

Several years later, Cade is on a mission in Iraq. He goes for a walk outside of his compound to clear his head and runs into Faith singing all alone. He listens to her for days until events unfold that allow them to meet. He realizes that once they meet he simply can't stay away as long as he is still there. Over a week's time, they grow into an easy friendship even though both want more. After a shared night of passion, tragedy strikes and their lives will be forever changed.

This is the story about forgiveness and letting go of the past. I loved how Cade wasn't one of those guys that pined away fro the love of his life by screwing other women. He actually remained celibate during their two year separation. From the moment he laid eyes on her, she was it for him. He knows he wants her, but doesn't feel like he deserves her. The fact that he couldn't let go of his hostility towards her faith and admit his love for her until later on was another reason that I had to rate this a step down from 5 stars. I did FEEL the love he had for her and that's the only reason I didn't come down more. I did feel overall he was a wonderfully flawed hero, but not in any way that I couldn't' deal with. I thought Faith was a lovely heroine - such a good, sweet, girl that is solid in her faith in God regardless of what vile things have happened to her in the past. I loved the kids - Christopher and Ruthie. They were adorable. I loved seeing the other couples even though I probably won't ever read their books - especially Sawyer's book. With how he was with Grace in this book, I am just shocked to read reviews on what he did to her in their book. It is disgusting and shameful.

I am seeing a storyline of Faith's sister and Alissa's dad maybe/???? I REALLY hope it's safe so I'll continue reading more from this author because I did enjoy her writing style ;)

I did have at least one quote highlighted but it disappeared so no quotes to post for this review. On to something light and sweet after this heavy read!

I give up

Same old trope - rape scene, past abuse, annoying heroine who chases after hero, hero who is an ass 'for the heroine's own sake', dead parent, almost-killed by a maniac, declare love, not enough grovel....

Blurb:
Faith ~
Cade Walker is like no man I’ve ever met before. He’s cynical, brooding, mysterious and, most of all, damaged. He’s a man who declares he’s broken, and one who detests the two very things I live for most: God and love. Yet, I’ve still fallen completely in love with him because I also see the good, something that no one else ever has. I see a man who is strong, silent, honorable and beautiful. He’s a man who is now scarred just as badly on the outside of his body as he is on the inside, all because of me. One who endured severe torture in order to save me from what would be the worst thing I will ever experience in my entire life. He is a man I call my dark angel, one who will have my heart until the end of time, even if I can never have his.

Cade ~ At fifteen years old I lost the only person that ever mattered to me, and the day I lost my little sister in the most vile way was the exact moment I stopped living and only existed. That’s until ten years later, when I walked into an open field in Iraq to hear the most incredible voice I would ever hear in my life. One that rooted me to my spot, and ended up belonging to the most beautiful woman in the world. The only woman to ever make me feel something again, something that I thought was dead inside of me. And no matter how badly I wanted to keep her, I knew I couldn’t. Not with what I have lurking inside of me. It’s something I’ve always kept hidden. That is, until the day I unleashed it on the people who dared to hurt her. It was the one thing that gave me the strength to save us, but it was also the one thing that would remind me of why I could never have her.

Now two years later, the one girl I never thought I would ever see again, the one I have spent my days and nights craving like an addict, walks back into my life unexpectedly, giving us both the shock of our lives. And when the time comes that she needs me again, I no longer resist. Before I know it, I’m pulled into a life I thought I could never have, one that scares the shit out of me but it’s one I’m realizing I want. There is just one problem. One very big problem… She lives for the very thing I loathe, and the one thing that killed my sister… God.

I read this book a while back but up until now the moments I had with Cade and Faith's journey is something I cannot forget my whole life. In fact, as I write this review, I am still feeling the emotions I had when I read this book. That heart gripping, gut wrenching feels that made me almost combust and the tears I cannot stop because it just flows like a river. My God! I bawled like a baby reading this book and I feel like I am crazy because I do not know what to do. I cried and laugh at the same time with that feeling that wrenched my heart and then cried some more out of sadness and grief. Then to cry again due to happy moments and then to feel so turned on I was looking for for something to hold on to. That is legit what usually happens to me every time I read KC Lynn's works. She get to me every time. Her work is like a drug and it's my addiction. She just knows how to engaged her readers without effort. And boy I was more than engaged. I was sucked through it, hooked and captivated with all it's perfectly written and excellently delivered story. I live and breathe with it.

And with Cade and Faith's story? I am utterly speechless. With the character's portrayal, I couldn't ask for more. Hero and heroine are just bad ass in their own unique ways. Oh Cade, this alpha man so broken yet with a big heart and filthy talking mouth, I want him to be a real. Like real enough so I can hug him. What he went through is not easy and I was broken because of him. This man is not called BIG GUY without a reason. And then there's Faith, who will forget this woman we all adore? The woman despite what she went through still possesses selfless love and a big heart on top of being a sassy and strong. They are just a perfect matched and with Christopher and Ruthie as an addition? Hell! I was so in love more with this story. What I feel is unexplainable. I cannot convert it into words yet I feel it deeply in my heart and I think it's better off that way.

Ahhh KC Lynn, you get better and better with your every release. Resisting Temptation is a proof of that. It's beautiful! Roller coaster of emotions is never enough to describe this book. Because Cade and Faith's journey? It's everything. It is EPIC in all proportions. I may have been broken, yet you fixed me again in a beautiful and perfect way.

Faith Was Never Fragile

The following ratings are out of 5:
Romance: 💙💚💜❤️
Steam: 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Chemistry: 🧪🧪🧪🧪
Story/Plot: 📕📗📙📘
World building: 🌏🌍🌎🌏🌍
Character development: ☺️🤣🙁🥰
Narration: 🎙🎙🎙🎙🎙
Narration Type: Dual Narration

💔 Heroine: Faith

Faith, the daughter of a minister and a devoted missionary in Iraq, radiated warmth and compassion. Her nightly guitar sessions with a young local boy became a quiet ritual of hope—until his father’s violent intervention shattered that peace. Faith’s protective instincts couldn’t shield the boy from the consequences, and soon after, her own world collapsed. Taken hostage by insurgents, she endured brutal violence that left lasting emotional scars. Her strength, however, never fully broke.

---

🛡️ Hero: Cade

Cade’s childhood was steeped in trauma, with his little sister as the only light in a dark world—until her horrific death extinguished it. Hardened by grief, he joined the Navy, became a SEAL, and deployed to Iraq. Stoic and simmering with rage, Cade was unexpectedly drawn to Faith’s quiet resilience. When she was kidnapped, he and two fellow SEALs launched an unsanctioned rescue mission that ended in their own capture and torture. Though they escaped with Faith, the emotional wreckage between them was profound. After their discharge, the trio settled in Sunset Bay, South Carolina, opening a gym and trying to rebuild.

---

🔥 Plot Pulse

Their connection in Iraq was electric—Faith, a beacon of belief and kindness; Cade, a skeptic burning with unresolved anger. One night of intimacy bound them, but trauma tore them apart. Two years later, Faith moves to Sunset Bay, unaware Cade lives there. Their reunion is raw and unexpected, reigniting old wounds and unresolved tension.

---

What Hit Home

• The emotional mystery of Cade’s silence post-rescue: Was it blame, shame, or something deeper? Faith’s uncertainty mirrored the readers, and the eventual reveal—his guilt over not saving her sooner—was devastatingly human.
• Both characters undergo meaningful growth. Their arcs feel earned, and their flaws are never romanticized.
• The romance is intense and steamy, with intimacy that builds organically from shared pain and longing.

---

⚠️ What Felt Worn

• The religious undertones felt heavy-handed at times. Cade’s trauma surrounding faith—rooted in a cult leader’s abuse of his sister—was understandable, but the narrative leaned too hard into theological conflict without fully unpacking it.

---

🎧 Narration Breakdown

Callie Dalton infuses Faith’s voice with warmth and vulnerability, capturing her emotional depth with grace. Her accents and character shifts are subtle but effective. Teddy Hamilton delivers another standout performance—his cadence and emotional range bring Cade’s internal storm to life. Together, their dual narration adds texture and rhythm, keeping the emotional stakes taut and immersive.

---

📝 Final Thoughts

This installment dives deeper into trauma, redemption, and the messy aftermath of survival. Faith and Cade’s story is raw, painful, and ultimately healing. While some thematic elements felt heavy, the emotional payoff and character evolution made it a gripping listen. If you’re drawn to stories of resilience, broken souls finding solace, and love forged in fire—this one delivers.

The last ten or so books I have read have been either ok or down right shit, but this! Omg this! Just fucking wow!!!
 photo 9235603.gif

I loved everything about it. From the first word on the very first page all away to the last one on the very last page. I love the characters, every single one of them. I love the setting I love the songs she used I love the writing, the writing style and the raw bittersweet honesty of emotions I felt while I read this book. The heroine was fucking fantastic one of the best heroines I have ever read on paper. There is nothing I like better than a take-no-shit heroine, I just can't fucking stand a heroine that lets herself get walked all over and never stands up for herself. All the books I read I find that to be the case more and more often and I cant fucking stand it!! Its like man the fuck up bitches!!

I laughed and I cried and I laughed while I cried. There was not one moment in this book that I was not super emotional. I swear pure emotions jumping right out of the pages and smacking me In the face! Books like this and the feelings it gave me while I read it are the reason for my absolute passion for the written word and why I will keep reading and searching for books that make me feel this way.

There are 2 main things you need to know about this book (well, the whole series to be precise):
1. There is a lot of crying, whether they are happy or sad. Like, almost in every scene. Seriously, the whole time I was afraid someone was going to die of dehydration.
2. The female characters LOVE to giggle like a bunch of idiots on crack.

Now let's talk about this book.

In general, it was very emotional. Compared to book 2, this was a lot better, since the storyline was more solid and interesting, and the characters were more mature and had better personalities (minus the giggling.)

This book was about Cade and Faith. As those who had read the previous books might still remember, Faith was the girl who had been captured and abused in Iraq. It wasn't the story I wanted to read, to be honest, but I just needed to know what was going to happen. Now that I knew, it was frigging emotional and of course, the hero, Cade, was unbelievable sweet and hot (how can I forget how hot and beautiful the characters are when the author kept reminding me every 5 seconds?! *annoyed*)

The writing wasn't so bad, but there were too many repetitions which bothered me quite a bit. I searched some words that kept popping like crazy and I was shocked that the author used those words that many times. Like giggle/giggling (over 50 times), tear/cry/sob (over 200 times)...

The pacing was okay too. Though, at times it felt a little dragging, but I didn't mind much, as the story was entertaining enough.

As the author wrote after the story ended, there are going to be more books following this one. One in particular will be about Anna and her boyfriend, Logan. And I'm not going to read any more of this series, especially the one about Anna, as sex trafficking is so not on top of my list of books to read.

3 Stars for this one... this was my least favorite of the series. It was much deeper and darker than the first two books in this series but that's not really what didn't do it for me. I loved Faith, she was terrific.. it was Cade that just didn't do it for me.. and I thought for sure from knowing him in the previous books in this series that he was going to be an awesome character.. but not so much. I love the moody jerks but he was just like a big ole wet blanket on the story. He was no fun.. Faith was the one that had to overcome the most hell in her past but she got over it.. it was Cade that couldn't get over his past and he through up so many walls I was almost ready for her to just find someone else. But...towards the end of the book when he finally pulled his head out of his ass it got better. This one still had the steaminess that I'm loving from K.C... but her other ones have been more fun and up beat.. And again, even being a little darker it still could have been better if it wasn't for Cade having his head stuck up his ass for most of the book.

“A little faith will bring your soul to heaven, but a lot of faith will bring heaven to your soul.”

Resisting Temptation will take you on an emotional journey of loss and heartache. It is a book that not only spoke to my heart, but to my soul as well. This book has a completely different feel to the other two books in the Men of Honor Series.

It pisses me off after years of nothing but numbness some redheaded, country girl had to come along and fuck with my dark world. A girl who stands for everything I loathe, yet her smile is all I see every time I close my eyes. One whose presence I constantly ache to be around, when usually, I yearn only for solitude.

This is a story of heart vs. mind. This is a story of a man with a past so painful he shut himself off from all feeling. Cade Walker is the definition of scary alpha male. Twelve years ago he lost his sister, Mia, in one of the cruelest and disheartening ways possible. Because of that, he lives a life as a Navy Seal with nothing to lose. He doesn’t do feelings or emotion. He doesn’t make promises or plan for a future. He lives his life day to day and takes chances most wouldn’t dream of. My heart broke for Cade and what he went through after losing his sister, the only person who he every truly loved.

That is until he meets Faith. Faith is the definition of everything Cade does not believe it and everything he has spent his life trying to stay away from. But there is something about this auburn haired, green eyed girl that pulls at the walls of his heart. A heart he never thought he had…until her.

His eyes fall closed and he buries his face in my neck.
“Jesus, Red. What the fuck are you doing to me?”

My heart clenches from the torment in his voice. I hold him close, wanting to comfort him as much as possible, and turn my mouth toward his ear.

“This is one of those beautiful things I was telling you about that life has to offer us. Don’t fight it, Cade, for once just let yourself feel.”

We learned a bit about what Cade, Sawyer and Jaxson all went through while in Iraq from the previous books. But having it play out through the minds of Faith and Cade was so heartbreaking and emotional. Two people who could not be farther apart in the real world, risk everything to try to save each other.

Faith never thought she would see Cade again. He left her after he rescued her in Iraq two years ago. Never a phone call or a letter, she never knew if he was alive and safe. Faith struggled after returning home but with the help of her family and her faith in God, she pulled though and is starting to rebuild her life. Then she sees Cade, and once again, he tilts her world upside down while at the same time, fulfills a part of herself she never thought she would get back.

“Is this okay, baby?”

His deep voice is rough with lust, yet laced with concern.

“Yes. As long as it’s your hands, your mouth and your body then everything and anything is okay,”
I tell him truthfully.

Something softer flashes in his gaze right before he says,
“That’s because you’re mine, Red. You always have been, even when you were miles away, and every part of you knows it.”

“You’re right,”

I admit softly, my lips only a breath away from his.
“Every part of me has always know it—especially my heart.
I just wish you would have known it too.”

Faith is a strong woman who lives her life to make the world and the people around her better. She believes in God and believes that there are more good people in the world than bad. When Cade comes back into her life, all the feelings and memories of each other reemerge and even though it may not be ‘right’, they can’t stay away from each other.

The love and loyalty they have for one other made me not want this book to ever end. The risks they take for each other. The battles they fight to be with each other. Everything. This entire story was just so beautiful and so solid. It is definitely one of my top reads of the year. Sorry Sawyer and Jaxson but I think Cade may have just stole the entire piece of pie!

There is SO MUCH story in this book. I don’t want to give anything major away but you will fall in love with two new characters. Christopher and Ruth Jean. They are so amazing! My heart broke for Christopher but swelled at the love he had for his sister. My heart melted with every little word and action from Ruth Jean. She is so adorable and I just wanted to jump in the book and squeeze her. Every time I think about her I get a huge smile on my face. Cutest kid ever!

We get a bit more from the rest of the gang, especially Sawyer. Oh how I missed Sawyer. Him and his smart mouth and the shit he gives Cade and Christopher. He, once again, had me laughing my butt off every time he was around.

What I loved most about this book was watching the transformation of Cade. Cade has always been a mystery throughout this series. Quiet, controlled, and keeping to himself. But seeing him, little by little, open up and seeing the struggle he battled with on a daily basis ease a little as he started to open himself up to knew possibilities in life, was just beautiful. I think KC Lynn did a fabulous job with this entire story but especially with the character of Cade.

I give this book 5 Brilliant and Beautiful Stars. KC Lynn had me hooked with Fighting Temptation, stole my heart with Sweet Temptation, and touched my soul with Resisting Temptation. The Men of Honor Series is most definitely a must read and is the kind of series that will stay with you long after the final final pages have been turned.
