More like 3.5 I was a little relieved to see that other readers found this a low point of the series. I really enjoyed going back to the Darujhistan characters, and I found Murillio, Crokus, Chalice, Kruppe and the whole gang to be the most interesting of all the storylines, which is to say that I didn't really follow Nimander's story.
And because of that, the ending was a little bit... off. I am rereading Part 4 in print because audio just doesn't do a great job of communicating the dense interactions of characters and the world. Crucial characters like Kallor show back up, there's a whole plot around the Lord of Death, and yet just about everything outside of Darujhistan fell flat for me.
However, if you read this series like I do, and you choose a set of characters to follow and ignore other ones out of necessity, and you choose the Darujhistan characters, it will be a fun and exciting follow-up to parts 2-4 of Gardens of the Moon.
