Fated. Mated. Lia is the kind of danger I never trained curvy, brilliant, and resilient. I'm not used to softness, and "family" is only a theory. My role in the pack is need-to-know, but the sexy scientist sees more than she should. For my wolf, it was simple. He was pure animal instinct, no messy human emotions for him. Mate. But that meant she was mine to protect, not mine to keep.
Aarick is strong, heals suspiciously fast, and I swear, he actually growled at me. I found him barely alive in the woods, with no clothes, no shoes, and no concept of personal space. He says my life is in danger, but refuses to tell me why. Maybe I’ve been alone on the mountain too long, but I’m not scared of him–only the way he makes me feel.
Shifter secrets are about to be revealed and there's only one way to protect claim her as my mate. This Instalove, wolf shifter romance features two fated mates, just one cabin, and lots of growling. No cheating, and HEA guaranteed!
Lia is a scientist doing research on wild wolves in the wilderness. She is staying in a cabin on the mountain. When one of her cam's go off Sadie rushes to replace it only to find a naked man.
Aarick is not looking for his fated mate until she is literally in his face.
It would be really good if Drake had taken the time to invest in Aarick and Lias back story. I wanted to feel for them but a crumb was dropped and left. What happens if Aarick doesnt go back and why shouldnt he have had a mate? For me, it all happened too fast. In less than a day, they were in bed and spouting the L word.
There really isn’t much to this book. FC is a scientist who is studying wild wolves. She comes across a naked bleeding man in the woods and drags him back to her cabin to help him. Turns out he’s a wolf shifter and she’s her mate. There are a few side stories that are mentioned but they are not elaborated on and then the book just ends.
Aarick was coming down from the mountain but the familiar woods felt “off”. Smells were different also. His wolf was becoming restless and wanted a mate. But they were not meant to have one. They continued along the trail and he smelled the scent of a bear. He also smelled a sweet human scent which the bear’s scent kept intersecting. Halfway up a tree, he saw a box and growled at it. In her cabin, looking at the feeds from the trail cameras, Lia jumped back when she saw the huge wolf. Maybe he was the creature causing recent livestock attacks the ranchers were reporting. The wolf pack she usually watched had disappeared. Something strange was going on.
Lia and her friends had set up the cameras in the woods as part of their research project to study the wolves in the mountains. While she was watching from her cabin, the large wolf that had growled at the camera started fighting with an enormous bear. The bear should have been hibernating! Unfortunately, their fight destroyed the camera so she would not get any footage. But she headed out to replace the camera. As she passed a stream, Lia saw an unconscious naked man on the ground! She had to help him. He was wounded and bleeding. But as she watched, his body started to heal itself! Maybe he got caught in the fight between the two animals. She had to get him to shelter in case they came back. Her pack had a medical sled/tarp to transport him back to her cabin, but it would be a long hike. He was a big man. By the time she dragged him to the fireplace, he woke up. And he realizes she is in danger now. Could he protect her? Will he claim her as his mate as his wolf is demanding?
Start to the Wild Mountain Mates a shifter without a family really and the mate who captures not only him but his wolf as well it can be read in under an hour or so 😊 Lia a feisty, curvy, very likeable scientists out with friends studying a wolf pack up in the mountains and watching through the lens of a camera catching a fight between an extremely huge bear and an equally huge wolf but none of it was recorded because they broke the camera while fighting. When she finds the wolf now human, naked, half dead she does the one thing instinct has her saving him. Aarick sexy as all get wolf shift who really has no family or feels that he has no family just pretty much do what he does and the moment the feisty, curvy women finds him, saves him, and drives his wolf absolutely crazy he knows that she is his mate but he knows next to nothing about a mate or being close to any family although, he wants to yet she drives him crazy. The attraction between the is insanely intense and the magnetic pull between them can be ignored the more time they stay around each other the closer they grow but is it enough for him to see there is more to loving someone outside himself, will she understand he is the wolf fighting the bear, will she accept him for who or what he really is, and can they find a path that leads them to happiness?.

WILD SHIFT: WILD MOUNTAIN MATES by Sadie Drake is a wolf shifter story of instant love, wolf romance, and two fated mates. Lia is doing a study of wolves and is staying all alone in an isolated mountain cabin. She had cameras set up, but the entire pack of wolves were gone. Lia is puzzled as to what had happened to all of them! When she was checking her camera's video feed, she saw a huge bear that almost was looking straight into her camera. If that was not shocking enough, then a huge lone wolf appeared and was in a bloody battle with the bear. She caught the whole thing with her camera setup. When she though the fight was over, and it was safe to go outside. She had another big shock when she found a large human male that was naked and bloody, lying unconscious on the ground. She'd somehow got the man back to her warm cabin. When he became conscious, she noticed his wounds were already healing. She was in for more shocking news. Like, he was a wolf shifter, and she was his fated mate.
3.5 stars. Lia, the female human lead, is a scientist researching wolves in a location where a pack has just disappeared for no reason that she can discern. When she sees a huge bear and wolf fighting, they knock one of her research cameras out, so she goes to replace it and finds a naked man. Aarick, the male wolf shifter lead, is shocked to find his mate - an enforcer is never supposed to have one… but he can’t leave her. Now they need to work out why the local natural wolf pack has disappeared and why there appear to be aggressive bear shifters in the woods…
This story is dual POV, and appears to be the author’s debut. It contained a simple but well executed plot, with characters that were engaging. I enjoyed Lia’s determined focus on the important research she was doing. I enjoyed Aarick’s confusion at his inability to separate himself from Lia. I enjoyed their relationship development. I’m looking forward to seeing how the author develops.
I received a complimentary copy from the author and this is my voluntary honest review.
This was my first book to read by this author. It was a great read. Lia is studying a local wolf pack in the mountains and documenting about them. The pack has disappeared and she has not been able to observe them from her trail cameras. One day she sees a big wolf emerge in the cameras and witnesses the wolf and a bear fight and then the camera is broken. When she goes out to the camera, she sees a man who has open wounds and blood in him. She meets Aarick and finds out about shifters. They feel an instant attraction to each other and Aarick realizes Lia is his fated mate. Read the book to see how the story unfolds! Looking forward to the next book! I was a volunteer ARC for this book in exchange for an honest review
This was a fun series opener and it brought together Lia and wolf shifter, Aarick. These two were fated mates but their beginning was a bit rough ;) Once they were able to really start opening up to each other, though, they were both stronger for it. Expect a reading ride that's full of action, drama, danger, banter, trust and steam. It was entertaining with great characters and I'm looking forward to the next book :D
Great setting/concept and the MFC's job knowledge / field of study is believable. Fast passed but not so rushed that the story for-goes any plot. The book could have been longer though, expanding on their mating bond over time but more importantly going into the bear shifter farmer family / their shops more, and perhaps some interactions/convo between herself and her research besties. The spicy scenes were well written and not cringy. Job well done.
This was my first time reading a book like this and I will say I enjoyed it. The sex scenes were well written and the conversation between the two main characters were enjoyable and funny. I’m a little sad it was short, I wish there was more to the book. Maybe more dialog between her best friends, more interaction with his wolf pack or even the bears. Over all though I did enjoy the book
He was doing the work for the pack, but something caught his attention and he couldn't get enough of it. Then the bear jump out and it was on wolf territory and the fight was on and she saw it all on her trail cam.
This was a good, fast-paced instant love novella between a wolf-shifter and a human scientist.
While I enjoyed the romance, there were so many holes in the lore and unexplained things that happened in the book that I felt a little confused at the end.
This was an interesting read. I liked the characters, but there could have been deeper development. They raised unanswered questions, such as no contact with his pack. It was a good read, if not particularly memorable.
This is a great story. The characters are interring. I love the world building. The shifter culture that you are exposed to seems very intricate and complex. The relationship that develops between the two is such a beautiful to behold. Please give this story a chance.
I give this one a 3.5. The story was hard to follow at times. There was a lot of angst between characters. I would encourage everyone to give this one a chance it may be something you would like. This one just wasn't something I loved but I did enjoy reading something new from a new author.
Quick easy to read, story flows well. Nice easy to follow plot with sweet happy ever after. First book in series. But can be read on its own. Shifter love story based on shifter and human. Set on a mountain side.
This is a book? That’s a serious question, I’m not even sure this is novella length. Maybe a short story. I picked this up for free and would honestly feel a little ripped off if I had paid for it.
There are hints of plot and hints of character development, but just hints. I would have loved to have gotten to know Lia and Aarick better.
Holy Smokes!!! This was a sexy, smutty insta-love shifter story. Aarick and Lia are the perfect fated mates. She wants that forever love, and finds that with Aarick. Loved it!!! ❤️
Either you love shifters or you don’t !! And if you do …then you need to grab a copy and read this one…. It’s amazing !!! Just trust me and read it …you won’t be sorry !!!
It shouldn’t of taken this long to finish 🙄 I just couldn’t get into the story. It was OK but not how I imagined the fated mate thing going idk it was just off for me.
This was definitely a cute shifter romance. I liked the length and the plot. I normally am not the type of person to read about other types of shifters but this a was really well done.
