Seventeen-year-old bookish Andy has no friends. When her over-involved mother has the audacity to ship her off to summer leadership camp, she's thrust into an introvert's nightmare. Everyone is a Communicator with a capital C, icebreaker activities are scheduled into every waking moment, and horror of all there's no coffee. Even the girls who take her under their wing are the kind of self-assured people Andy could never dream of becoming.
Then she meets Lucas—hot, attentive, and everything Andy reads about in her books. Though the girls in her cottage try to warn her about him, she's swept into the first romance of her life. But when she discovers her friends may be right, she'll have to find her inner confidence to save her summer and become the leader she was always meant to be.
Jessica K. Foster writes funny, heartfelt Young Adult Contemporary fiction with a dash of romance. She is a middle school Language Arts teacher with a penchant for hot tea and romantic beach reads. Jessica lives in West Michigan with her husband, two boys, and their ragtag crew of rescue animals.
Andy is literally just me. I don't think I have ever related to a character this much before! I've been in Andy's position many times.
Jessica does such a good job immersing you into the book, like I could perfectly picture the camp in my head. All the characters are great, we all know a Suzie in our lives and camp just wouldn't be the same without at least one Suzie 🤣
I loved seeing Andy grow as a character and really see her becoming a better version of her without loosing herself in the process.
the romance was cute I loved it I just wish we could have seen more of them together, but it's okay cause there's a sequel coming, and just with the 2 teaser chapters I'm desperately waiting for it to come out 🤣
I want to go to a summer camp so much now 😭 Do they make adult summer camps??
A perfect debut! Could definitely see this as a Hulu/Netflix original. Andy is so real and relatable. You can't help but root for her. Really, the whole cast of characters is amazing from Andy's mom to the fellow campers. So much to love. Also, the summer camp vibes are everything! This book made me happy. Can't wait to read more from this author!
I tend to gravitate toward thrillers, but I stumbled onto this and decided to give it a try. What a happy accident because it was such a fun read! I adored it and have recommended it to our school librarian to stock. As an introvert (and coffee addict) myself, I related to Andy on nearly every page, and I think anyone who has ever felt socially awkward or like they’re forced to drown in a sea of other people’s energy will, too. It’s funny, clever, and heartwarming. Looking forward to the sequel!
When a bright introverted teen is forced by her parents to go to leadership summer camp, she has to put the books down and learn life lessons that no camp can offer. A great book for teens trying to find their confidence and identity.
This is such a fun summer read!!! And an amazing debut book. 💕💕💕
Andy is such a relatable character for any of us who have never felt like they've belonged. It is incredibly enjoyable to read about her. Trying to blend in and be a part of a world. She doesn't feel like she fits.
Andy is a book loving introverted teenager. And she's forced to go to come summer camp. This book is full of first love, first heartbreak and some amazing friendships. And her mom is amazing.
All in all, I really enjoyed this book and I'm excited to read more about this author.
This is an amazing start of summer read that places the reader in the heart of the energy of summer. The settings are visual and atmospheric, and provide a nostalgic glance to the fun and heartwarming tale of Andy as she navigates a world she believes she doesn't belong in. The characters give the story a spark that keeps you turning pages, wanting to know what happens next, and if they'll be okay. I cannot wait for book 2 to come out!
A solid 3.5 stars. I picked up this read as I know the author from my middle school years. It took a while for me to get into the book, but I did enjoy the way it finished. Overall, a good read
This was an excellent young adult contemporary read! I loved the cast of characters and the summer camp setting. The main character, Andy, was extremely relatable, which I really appreciated. This was a very quick, enjoyable read that I didn’t want to put down and it had me smiling quite a bit. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and highly recommend picking this one up.

I can’t wait to read the next book, Andy And The Summer Of Something which comes out on July 16.
This was such a fun read! I haven’t read YA in a long time but I definitely enjoyed this one! Andy goes away to leadership camp and has to endure a couple weeks with people she doesn’t want to care for. She totally believes she is in the wrong place and does not want to try any of the leadership activities they will put her through. I loved getting to know Andy and all her internal thoughts. It reminded me so much about being in school and the awkwardness that one goes through. Reading about her coming out of her shell made me so happy for her! It also teaches us that sometimes putting ourselves out there and trying out new experiences can be worth it. I totally recommend this relatable read! 4 ⭐️ from me!
I really really enjoyed this book! I could have sat and read the whole thing but wanted to let it last longer! It’s definitely YA but in such a good way… the characters were amazing. I felt like it was such a good motivational book to show who you really are! It made me want to express myself more and challenge too:) it also made me want to go to summer camp yet I’m 21 sooo. and I cannot wait for the next book! Hurry please!!! Can’t wait to meet the author this weekend!
I was not a camp girl growing up but I totally romanticize it now as an adult, so I love summer camp stories, and this is my absolute favorite. Andy is such a wonderful, genuine, atypical heroine and I was rooting for her from page 1. Her arc was so satisfying, and I am so excited that there will be a sequel!
I could not put this book down. Such a nice read with just the right amount of drama. I can’t wait for the next one to see how their story ends. The whole story took me back to teenage years at summer camp. Made me a little thankful I was able to stay hidden in the shadows lol. If you are an introvert this story will resonate with you for sure!
I just devoured this book. I love Andy’s arc. She is a strong character even if her strengths aren’t always the ones everyone notices. The tension between her and Lucas is so yummy. This is a great book for anyone who has ever struggled to fit in.
Andy and the Extroverts, a YA novel, written by talented author, Jessica K. Foster is a delight. The adventure takes place at a summer leadership camp where shy and bookish "Camper Andrea" experiences activities, forges new friendships, and unwittingly discovers how strong, brave, and clever she really is. I highly recommend this fast-paced, humorous, and touching tale!
I loved how Andy is so relatable. I am not a teenager anymore but I still resonated with her character. This book portrays how an introvert teenager who likes books than anything (it's not a bad thing) navigate other perspectives of life through a summer camp. Which also includes furst romance, first heartbreak, genuine friendships. I have mixed feelings about Lucas (being an asshole and all) but a huge part of him has helped her throughout as well. I also sometimes didn't like Andy's mom, but again her decision was somewhat good for Andy. Overall I really really liked the book. It seems short but I don't know it took so much concentration of mine. I loved that.
I wanted to read this book from the first time I saw the cover and I'm happy to report that I loved it as much as I thought I would! As a lifelong introvert with social anxiety, it was wonderful to see a character like me realize that she can fit in and even do hard things without completely changing who she is! A perfect book for the teen introvert in your life!
Andy and the Extroverts is a charming and entertaining coming of age story. Andy is awkward and relatable in all the best ways, and her struggle to survive leadership camp without coffee made me laugh out loud. The friendships feel real, the romance is sweet and messy, and her growth is inspiring to watch. It is a perfect read for anyone who has ever felt out of place but still found the courage to step up. I loved every page!
This book. Look, normally I don’t go for local authors (local to me) because their stuff feels like it tries too hard to remind me that they are from where I am. But this one? I’ve ever been more transported to back when I was an awkward teen as I was with this one. Andy is an introvert, and not just any introvert, but a bookworm. Her parents, without her knowledge, sign her up for leadership camp immediately after the end of her junior year of high school. To her horror, everyone is an extrovert, her complete opposite. To make it worse, hot playboy Lucas has set his sights on her. Is this going to be the worst two weeks of her life or will she find her own inner leader?
I was so angry at her parents at the beginning. Actually, even though most of it worked out for her, Andy’s parents, specifically her mom, are horrible for what they did. As a mom myself, I would NEVER do that to my kid. I know he’s also an introvert, but he still has interests and I talk to him enough that I know sending him to something like this, springing it on him with no input, would make it a sure fire way for him to never speak to me again. That said, Andy managed and made excellent friends in Paige and Emma. They were probably a couple of my favorite characters. And Lucas? He was such a well rounded character. He’s portrayed as both a playboy but also a teen who has his own complicated feelings and emotions. Counselors Susie and Tyler though, were a riot. I can’t say more wonderful things about this book. I want to read it again already. Oh, and I read the book extra chapter for the new book and dammit I want it now!!!
Alright it's been so long since I finished the book and just now i get the time to write a review 😭 So here we have our main character Andy, an introvert girl who preferred to stay all day in her room surrounding by books and dive into those stories. It definitely defined me and that's why I picked this book up. Let's get back to Andy! It's summer time and you know what does that mean, yeah summer holiday. For Andy, the only way to have fun in holiday is staying on bed and reading novels, especially romance ones, but her Mom has another plan for her, she signed up for her daughter at an adventurous leader camp, yes a leader camp which is full of extroverts people. Andy got not choice but to obey her mom's wish although she tried hard to reject to join this camp. But none knows that a lot will happen in this summer camp so, follow Andy's journey with her extroverts fellow in this book.
Needless to say that I truly enjoyed this book, like everything, but yeah in the beginning I sorta pissed off with Andy's mom for forcing her daughter to join a leader camp, but there's nothing wrong to try something new isn't it? It changed my perspective too and I liked the fact about how Andy eventually got along with it. It was such a fun and light-hearted read. Highly recommend to those who are looking for sunshine book. And I can't wait for the sequel✨
A cute young adult summer romance, great for anyone that’s ever felt like an outcast. As an introvert myself I have never identified with a character more! This was such a fun read. Great character development throughout, Jessica did a great job immersing the reader into the book. She did a wonderful job setting the scene without dragging it on with unnecessary details. Would recommend to anyone needing a good light summer read. Can’t wait for the second book!
“Just because I was quiet didn’t mean I was stupid. Just because I didn’t object to everyone’s shenanigans didn’t mean I was okay with them. And just because I didn’t join in with everything didn’t mean I was a snob. This entire camp didn’t understand the definition of introverted.”
Mrs. Foster was my English teacher in 7th and 8th grade she was my favorite teacher and her book is one of the best books I have ever read, her book specifically got me to read more romance novels, I just wanted to say that I could not be more proud and happy for my teacher.
